I've been on a hiatus for the past few months, and I'm not going to read through 35 pages on Quinn.
Here are my general thoughts:
Here are my general thoughts:
- Quin is a good coach. Not a great coach, and not a bad coach.
- The #1 reason this season turned entirely sideways is the team lost more players than they were able to cope with.
- That said, the single most disappointing thing about the team this year is they didn't have that one upset win where they were short handed and just out-coached the opponent. That's a failure of the coaching staff as a whole.
- It took Quinn too long (hindsight being 20/20, probably a year too long) to figure out that Whitt didn't have it, at least not yet, and needed to be replaced. It would have been a bold move to do it after the 2024 season, but the offense and good dumb luck covered up so many defensive scheme related issues, it's not funny. I'm all about letting people develop in their roles, but Quinn needed to figure out Whitt was in over his head and wasn't going to improve before he did.
- I don't think Quinn deserved to be fired the year after he coached the team to the NFC Championship game. I believe that level of success buys you a little leash. Even with all the luck in the world, that's a tremendous accomplishment, and Quinn should get credit for it.
- That said, he didn't distinguish himself this year. And that's troubling, so 2026 is going to be really telling and important for him.
- I was one of Kliff's biggest supporters. I don't know what happened or why he got fired. It is a real risk firing an OC that the offensive players, and especially the QB, liked, and who's offense was pretty good this season given everything it went through. I give Quinn credit for pulling the chord (even if I actually disagree with it) if he felt it was the right thing to do. Hiring Blough is also a risk.
- Quinn needs to buy a thesaurus and stop using "in this space." It's a crutch phrase and it's annoying as hell.
- The team never quit on Quinn. And that says a lot about the way he treats people, and is able to motivate players. I think Quinn can be a succesful playoff winning coach here IF the following things are true:
- Daniels is the QB he was last season
- The roster is better and stays healthier
- He picks the right coordinators.
- If any of those things don't happen, he himself doesn't have the coaching chops coach a team out of a bad situation. He MIGHT on defense, if he was the defensive coordinator and had the right players. He's been a really successful DC in the very recent past. But he's not Belichick. He's not going to scheme up a defense out of thin air to get wins....
