I don't think Raheem is taking defensive coordinator interviews yet. Still dealing with HC interviews and supposedly contemplating doing TV. Listening to Keim it feels like Raheem is as strong a candidate as Ulbrich if he becomes avaliable.
lol, maybe he didn't feel it in the Ravens interview, or he was close enough logistically to take a visit in Washington,
Makes me wonder if he's going to visit Dallas, previous reports that they are interested in interviewing him, too.
I'd love it if it happens but it feels so wild -- why coach under a defensive coach let alone do so with the worst defensive talent in the NFL.

Gannon seems more plausible than Flores. lol, I'll have to listen to Keim's podcast tomorrow, he isn't perfect with this but gets more right than anyone else who covers the team. His podcast today was titled Brian Flores and he spent some of it talking about the possibility but he seemed to feel it was unlikely -- not based on anything he heard but based on logic. But now that Flores was in the building, he might have a better feel for the possibilities.
It feels wild to me. Vikings are saying he's back if he doesn't get a HC job. Dallas supposedly uber interested in him. Both teams with more talent than this team. And you'd be coaching with an offensive minded HC versus here.
Im surprised hes interviewing for coordinator positions this early before hes had a chance to seek out other head coaching positions but im not surprised hes doing it.
The writing was on the wall that he'd at least consider it when he let his contract expire.
If all he wanted was a head coaching gig or to stay in Minnesota he'd have no reason not to sign an extension a long time ago.
Nobody knows what his motivations are.
Maybe he wants a new challenge and god knows we present one, or he thinks turning a crap defense like ours around after doing the same in Minnesota is the only way he'll get serious looks as a head coach.
Maybe its money and hes putting himself out to the highest bidder.
Either way im not surprised.

Very strange situation, I’m shocked he’s actually taking a physical interview for another DC role if he’s actually happy in MIN. And before he knows the outcomes of his HC interviews, too? Kinda crazy.
Maybe he didn’t love MIN’s certainty that he belonged to them when they didn’t bother to extend his contract early. Seems like a chip-on-shoulder type tbh

Okay, seems they have bothered to try to resign him, and aren’t paying him what he wants. So we’re leverage…but maybe we can make him feel more wanted. Pay him a shit ton, and then give Quinn a raise so no feelings get hurt, who cares

The logistics angle makes sense. Perhaps interview practice, maybe get a chance to talk to Quinn about getting hired as a HC or job advice. Who knows.
For obvious reasons I highly doubt we have an actual shot at him (for many reasons), but I can come up with a few reasons he might consider us if a HC job doesn’t pan out.
1. We had a crap defense. Nowhere to go but up. Which in turn pads his resume for next year.
2. While coaching under a defensive coach might be an odd choice, Quinn is a highly respected, culture building, leader of men type, so there’s potential for learning under him. (And Quinn has had a lot of success as a DC, so maybe some things to learn on that front as well).
3. Unlike the Vikes, we have a qb in place, combined with a very successful 2024 campaign.
4. Just plain networking - expanding the people you work with/for. Gets him in front of Peters too, who has some ties around the league (in terms of future HC jobs).
5. Always an outside chance that we move on from Quinn. Probably means our defense sucked, but there’s potentially a small needle to be thread there.
That was a theory of mine too.
With the lawsuit he has against the league hes obviously not afraid to challenge the staus quo and leaving to make a lateral move to the highest bidder would certainly do that because i cant recall it ever happening with a coach a team wanted to keep.
It is very interesting. Amidst this lawsuit, I wonder if he’s thinking “I’m acknowledged as being a great DC for a talented roster in MIN. That isn’t getting me a job (assuming he’s not hired this cycle). So maybe I need to go fix a bad defense and show them all?”
Idk, wishful thinking obviously but he’s a fascinating character.
Even if he is using us for leverage or whatever, I’m still kind of glad. He’s unquestionably the top DC prospect on the market (and seen as more of a HC prospect, but the legal stuff might keep him from getting promoted). So being able to directly interview him, get his pitch and his ideas, and then compare all the other DC prospects against THAT. That’s immensely helpful.
We don’t usually get interviews with the universally considered top candidates at any staff position tbh. Adam Peters is actually the only time I can remember it happening, and he clearly targeted our situation as the one to pounce on after having much patience, so that wasn’t even necessarily based on our merits other than Josh Harris having a positive rep. Peters was starting with a blank slate, extra resources, and a QB pick, it was a no brainer.
Flores is THE top DC candidate right now (so much so that no one thinks he’s actually available).

I think that some people believe that the easiest and best job to get is on your own team. Kevin O'Connell isn't going anywhere. Flores might believe that if DQ gets canned then he could step into his position. A lot of people still love this area, coaching Daniels, new stadium etc. I also think that we take family life for granted. I'm sure that his family would rather live in the DMV than Minnesota and I still think the NFC East will always be the glamor division.
Spit balling but maybe it could be a slight favor to Peters. Flores worked with Peters for 5 years. This is the first interview I believe he has given as a D coordinator this cycle. Showing some interest maybe is a nod to bigger name coordinators like Gannon that its lol more of an anticing job than it looks.
Another reason why I don't think it happens is Peters-Harris so far don't seem like an I am going to outbid anyone to get who i want type of operation. Conversely for example the Giants seems to be begging Harbaugh to take the job, they will pay him whatever he wants, give him as much power as he wants, on and on. Peters-Harris do not seem to roll like that at least they don't so far.
Good point. Minnesota is basically saying publicly he's coming back if he doesn't get a HC job so don't waste your time interviewing him for DC -- and maybe that irritates him.
