The HC Dan Quinn Discussion Thread

They were one of the luckiest teams in the NFL based on metrics that measure luck in 2024. they were also one of the unluckiest teams in the NFL based on metrics that measure luck in 2025.

Coming from me, who said years ago if they win a playoff game again in my lifetime its our new SB. And seeing it in person. Then seeing them do it again. Neither game about luck. I don't brush off the 2024 season.

Everything that worked in 2024 wasn't about luck. Everything they didn't work this season wasn't about bad luck.

But circling the negative year as the season that matters and crossing out the great season -- to me feels PTSD Dan Snyder. For me, I'd wait for 2026 going south before feeling that doomed.

Different coach from Ron. But the larger point is Ron had garbage QBs, Quinn has IMO potentially an elite one.
While i hear what you're saying... here is the problem... Apparently the FO/ owner thought that this 25 season was more indicative of where we are as a team.. why? because they fired both OC and DC! thats almost onheard of, while keeping the HC. What good OC/DC in their right mind would go work for a lame duck coach on the hot seat if they have ANY better opportunities?!
That means that we will get settled with at best average OC/DC with fairly predictable, unspectacular results.

While i dont like it when meddlesome FO/owners making rash firing dicisions... there is also something to be said for FO that can read between the lines and identify mistakes early, and get out of them no matte the cost.

^ This above.

Any DC or OC coming here is going to know this may be a one year gig.

That's not great for 2026.

Some concern for me that any quality coordinators think Quinn is a lame duck coach and have second thoughts about coming here.

I think it is possible for AP to present this opportunity where that is not a major concern.

Harris is hands off stlyistically so to assume he's behind this would be wild. And if he did it would be concerning too. You are the first unless I missed someone who is throwing Harris into this. But zero indication that he is involved in this.

As to Peters, that would mean Peters lied yesterday that he's leaving the coordinator hires to Quinn. It would be unsual for the GM to dictate the head coaches assistants. And Keim who is as good as it gets as to having inside info -- said the issues with Kliff is primarily with Quinn.

Maybe we will hear later it was all Peters, I don't know. But I'd be surprised. As Jay Gruden said the other day it would be super weird for the GM to make calls on the assistants. I get the vibe Peters is the sidebar to this not the main story. But am sure all wll be told soon.

Yeah I'm with you, i dont see Peters or Harris running the hiring.

I will say that I HOPE Peters and Quinn are on the same page as far as the direction they want to go schematically, as it's really important to understand what the planned dish when you're shopping for the groceries.

I feel like both Kingsbury and Johnson are going to get NFL jobs this level as an OC and O-Line coach respectively. Doesn't mean we are making the wrong move, but to me that tends to illustrate we are moving on from guys who were competent at their job. Whitt I feel is likely going to have to accept a demotion down to position coach.

Digesting the narratives and I trust Keim the most. This was a Quinn-Kliff drill. Peters likely the cherry on top but not the driving force. Like Peters or Quinn or not, neither come off as liars. Peters flat out said these are Quinn's calls not his.

For all the people pimping the Shanahan offensive tree, that pipeline has slowed down the past few years. Coen is the only member of it to get a HC job the past 3 cycles.

There is a lack of quality in that pipeline. You would think AP and DQ would’ve gone to it in 2024 if they could but they must have felt the quality wasn’t there

I mean, it makes sense. That tree had like half a dozen under-40 coaches turn into hot HC candidates in a short period of time. That’s absurd. Takes time to backfill with semi-experienced and promising talent

That's your feeling that's cool.

I love Jayden. I think an elite QB drives EVERY team. It's not unique to this team.

But still you don't dismiss a HC who had an historic season for a franchise after one season where they lead the league in injuries. If I recall Jayden is 2-5 so by the same logic if he takes 100% of the credit he deserves 100% of the blame too for his record.
Keep defending Quinn and this pedestrian front office. It’s becoming more and more apparent they caught lightning in a bottle. Remove Jayden from last season and let’s say add Bo Nix or Caleb Williams or even Penix, you think they still make the NFC champ game? Get real.

Well, it's a good thing this "pedestrian" front office didn't draft them...

For my consternation regarding replacing Kingsbury with a better hire, and now Johnson for that matter, at least it's good to know they aren't sitting around thinking everything is hunky-dory, and we just need to be healthier next year.

edit: Misread your post at first, thought you said "Quinn and 'his' pedestrian front office....

No matter what you say, THIS group did what it did last year and there's no going back. The formula of the whole was good enough to get where it did. Guess what, if Kansas City hadn't drafted Mahomes, if New England hadn't drafted Tom Brady, If if if doesn't matter.

I'll give you an if, if we're entering 2028 and Quinn is still the coach and Pro Football Reference looks like THIS:

Then we can talk about him looking like the other mess we've been dealing with for the last 3 decades. Bottom line is RIGHT NOW, the truth is we've had a bad season with a lot of injuries and other issues, and we've had an NFC Championship appearance where we got A LOT of puck luck and good bounces.

I've probably critiqued both Quinn and Peters in great detail than most here and did so before it was cool this summer.

But at the same time, I was one of the harshest critics of Dan Snyder for eons for various reasons and among them for acting like an impulsive and emotional fan. Even if i wanted Quinn to go, I'd hate the optics of Harris acting like Dan.

I don't blame fans for being emotional, look I spend thousands this year to travel to watch games that were depressing -- seeing Mariota throw to Chris Moore is not what I bargained for this season.

But to dive in and throw out 2024 -- I love Jayden, but its not like Ertz, Sainristil, Coleman, Noah, Ekeler, Armstrong, Fowler, Luvu, Wagner had zero to do with their success and Jayden was 100% of it.

In 2024, we got articles extoling Quinn as some sort of the Tony Robbins of coaches who players love and is an elite culture setter -- and Peters as a dude who turned a bad roster into close to a SB roster in one off season.

And if you think its all Jayden -- you got to give Peters some credit, he took him, and its not lke everyone thought he should -- heck now plenty think he made a mistake.

Quinn-Peters were the typical upstart success and fell on their face IMO the season after because of bad luck and their own mistakes born from arrogance-complacency. Sheehan was shocked when Standing told him this is like the 40th and change team to go from the championship game one year to fall apart the next.

It happens. Coming from the dude (me) who thought they were Rocky in Rocky 3 about to get their ass kicked by Mr. T. That's how it felt to me this summer. I want to see the Rocky Mr. T rematch. If they get their ass kicked again, they should go. But they deserve another shot.
