Official Game Thread - Week 18 - Commanders @ Eagles

I don’t know, I still kind of like winning, especially in Philly. Plus the Josh Johnson story is cool, and it’s just good to see some of my favorite players and coaches have something to celebrate for a change.

But I also doubt the difference between the 5th and 7th pick amounts to much, so it’s easier for me to enjoy a win without feeling like we’ve paid a heavy price.

Will be interesting to see all the people saying “damn wish we could’ve had X player on the board (who went at 5 or 6) right now”.

Not saying that’ll be you, but very good odds it will be many people. If we end up drafting after a tier break now that’s going to be very fucking annoying

We could easily have to settle for the #2 pass rusher or #2 WR or someone non-premium now. It’s not a great draft class in terms of the top of the draft and we’re very possibly in no man’s land

Only silver lining is that it may allow us to overlook positional value and just draft someone like Downs, if he’s there, or Love.

But it’s always better to have more choices than less. Hope they enjoy the champagne Quinn’s popping for barely beating our rivals’ backups in a lost season, it was really important to him.

it's the cards the fans are dealt. can't ask players and coaches to throw the games. I'll just hope we fuck over the eagles and get gifted a generational player lol.

Overall, resting your starters can come back to bite you bigtime. Another words, Philly may be rusty in the playoffs.

Of course, they should try their hardest. And they did. It’s just frustrating the things you see when they’re desperate for a win most fans don’t even care about, it’s pathetic. All of a sudden we can in fact rush 35-40 times in a game when it’s working to take pressure off the QB. Interesting.

Wrong. I am almost 60 years old. We were in the NFCG last year and then you drop this season on the fanbase? Cant even lose a meaningless game to secure a top 5 pick on top of it? Absolute clownshow
My fandom is pretty low right now but honestly it's a combination of everything and I can't say it's at it's lowest because there is so much competition.

It's like that scene from city stickers when the guy who was married to the vicious bitch said his wedding day was his best day and his buddy (who's surprised he chose that day) says what was your worst?

And he replies, every day since has been a tie.

That's my fandom.

The superbowl in 91 was my best day and every day since has been a tie.

If we drafted Downs or Love, then I would be happy, but nobody really knows which picks will hit or bust. Higher picks have greater success rates of course, but I doubt the difference between the 5th and 7th pick is so much to warrant such an unhappy reaction.

Me: Wow, this is great! CLE and NYG won! How lucky! Now WAS can draft another impact player!

Sirianni: I'm the smartest guy in the league. My backups can beat their backups.

Me: Well, Josh Johnson is still starting. He only has 1 career win as a starter. 8 years ago. Also with WAS. Nothing can go wrong! I'm really excited for this number 5 overall pick. I haven't been this happy since the LAC game!

WAS: Hold our collective beers...

Me: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.

Here's the thing. You can't actually ask players to play to fire themselves or their teammates. Players are going to try. I feel good for them. I like knocking the Eagles a peg (which is what Quinn promised to do after Siriani tried for that two)... I'd rather have chosen five than seven, but what can you do?

Exactly how I feel right now. Peak Redskins to pull out this utterly worthless game to our long term detriment.

Enjoy that moral victory though, DQ!

In a zoomed out, macro sample, yes. We’re not dealing with the entire pool players ever in a hypothetical scenario though, we’re dealing with the specific class of 2026. There will be a hard tier break and we might end up on the wrong side of it, given it’s a weak QB/OT class.

Yes, historically the hit rates between 5 and 7 probably aren’t that different. But year to year when you want specific prospects like many posters here do, there can be a big difference.

It’s more so sickening to see the change in strategy, that we’ve said all season is conducive to winning, that we now only see implemented towards the end of a lost season, because Quinn has some ego wrapped up in beating the Eagles backups. It’s pretty pathetic to see how they committed to the run today to reach their objective in week 18.

You are absolutely correct about that.
We didn't throw it away the eagles did.
They made a conscious decision to play worse football than they are capable of playing and it bit them in the ass.
We (and this is sad) put out the best possible product we could (minus maybe the fact jayden probably could have played) and we got a really really ugly win that cost us a few draft slots.
Not happy about that but it's not the end of the world.
