You can’t win in this league playing your #2 or #3 quarterback, with the expansion of teams and salary cap almost no team has super depth at the position.

Job #1 is to keep the quarterback upright.

Kliff fails in his approach to appreciate this.

If I am the owner my first thought is you are risking a large part of the future for some small gains.

But guys looking for another HC gig are only worried about today not tomorrow.

Even after everything I’ve said, and the thorough way in which I’ve questioned Kliff’s viability and the overall plan for succession on that side of the ball…I still won’t engage in hyperbole and say Kliff “sucks”. I think that’s counterproductive to discourse here. I have specific, explained issues with him.

The best way to say it (for me, you’re free to say he sucks but I think it muddies the water) is that he’s not a good or creative enough chef for the premium wagyu he’s been supplied at the QB position (I completely agree that he’s done well enough considering injuries and lack of talent otherwise, though—that’s not my issue with him).

I think he’s a competent Wildcard-round OC who has moments of brilliance when he’s in a flow, but is ultimately lacking in instinct and innovation, and is very streaky. He’s fine…he’s not good enough for what we need and I’m not interested in hoping Daniels plays at a historic level to make things work going forward. I think he’s above replacement level technically but I think he’s bad for Daniels’ health and development

Kliff is a fake sharp. He has an aura and that’s helped him earn a reputation. His offense seems exciting, but it’s not innovative. He uses analytics and goes for it on 4th down a lot, but he doesn’t incorporate obvious plus EV things like tons of pre snap motion, play action, and boots. He’s like an AI version of a top offensive coordinator. Has all the characteristics but there’s just something inauthentic about it all.

Yep. And you see a lot of OCs who look 'innovative' and capable when they have some major horses on the offensive side of the roster. I think Kingsbury takes a lot of unwarranted heat. He damn near made Kyler Murray look like a star in Arizona and if Murray hadn't gotten hurt he might still be doing that.

I don't recall hearing how incompetent he was when we had our starters (who by the way, weren't all that good outside of JD and Terry).

You don’t run a business retaining mediocre people because you are worried a potential replacement could in a worst case scenario be worse.

If you don’t have confidence that your due diligence and evaluations are enough to affect outcomes positively you should sell the business.

No more negative crap about trepidations about moving on from mistakes and admitting them when they are made.

Problem is your evaluations could lead you to conclude there is no one available you think you could get that is any better. And could be far worse. You don’t want to fire good knowing you can’t get great. Kliff is good, just so far not great.

Kingsbury has not proven over any consistent stretch at any one stop that he is up there with a McDaniels or Reid as an offensive coach and play caller.

So I don’t pay any deference or give him credit for catching lightning in a bottle for one year when every break went his way.

They don’t call it science until the results of the experiment are repeatable.

Reid is a future Hall of Famer… ummm so yeah. McDaniel has had about the same success as Kliff has. I’m not saying he isn’t better, but I don’t think it’s some slam dunk he’s far superior.

And McDaniel has been a failure in Miami - and folks will point to Tua’s flaws and injuries while ignoring that Kingsbury has navigated far worse barriers to success. I’m just saying, there are a lot of things that have to go right and Kingsbury hasn’t done anything in DC to warrant being dismissed imho.
