Official Game Thread - Week 11 - International Game - Dolphins vs Commanders

I feel bad for anyone who wasted a significant amount of time watching today's "game" *. Talk about a race to the bottom. I couldn't help myself and tuned in literally just as Mariota threw that boneheaded pick. I learned that Gay had (naturally) missed a walk-off FG moments before. Seems like the game was a pretty good encapsulation of the season to date.
The biggest loser today is the NFL. This matchup probably set the league back 20 years with regards to increasing European fan interest.

I know some people root for draft position, and they will be pleased, sadly I can’t share in their enjoyment
Why not?

At this point what helps the team more, higher draft capital or a useless win in a lost season that helps nobody.

Literally the only thing this team has going for it is the result of not winning anymore games in a useless lost season.

I get not liking losing games but ya gotta want whats best for the team and this point losing is as painful as it can be to say and see.

on the bright side, this should make it clear to AP we aren't close and the team needs to be gutted of some vets and no more vet signings. 2024 was great, but it had the same effect as 2020 in the subsequent year, unfortunately.

Love the player (goofy pun groan)... but I don't want to spend our top 10 pick on an RB. Happy to overpay a good FA though.

I get it but this is the mentality that keeps us in lack of playmaker purgatory.
We can fill gaps in free agency, we have plenty of money but if you want truly elite playmakers you gotta draft them.
And im so tired of not having anybody that scares anyone except jayden and this year teams have figured out you just gotta stop him because we dont have anybody else that can hurt you.

I guess someone was looking out for me today. My power went out with 5 minutes to go in the game. Just got it back.

I would've enjoyed a win, but the rational being in me says this is probably the best outcome in the big picture. It's officially evaluation time as post-season hopes are now more or less gone.

Just once.... could we please have a HC and FO that are smarter than the average fan? Just once.

Gay should have had competition a month ago.

Other teams hit 50 yard chip shots in their sleep, and look pretty good from 60. And we have this loser.

I don't completely disagree, but if it's playmakers you want, I'd rather draft WR1 in the top 10. IMO, that's a better use of assets. Its easier to find a high end RB in FA than it is a high end WR.

I agree DB, unless there is a blue chip pass rushing freak of nature, then it might be a good idea to grab that in the draft.

The sad part is that they are going to cut Gay now after it's already too late when anyone could see that this guy was easily capable of costing us games, not just on last second kicks but also regular kicks throughout the game that's taking points off the board. Never proactive, just like waiting too long for Whitt

Right?

I really can’t see why we acted like we were in Gay’s range at the 40 yard line. Who made that call? Probably the same genius who put Sainristil back to return a punt after watching him drop a ball already.

Commanders

What more could go wrong for the Commanders? Just when it looked like Washington could snap its five-game losing streak, the Commanders found new ways to lose. An overtime interception on the first pass by Mariota set up the Dolphins' winning points. An injury to Jaylin Lane led to a new punt returner -- and a fumble by Mike Sainristil. Washington would have had the ball at its own 40. But it followed a series that ended on a failed fourth-and-1 when Mariota's pass to tight end Zach Ertz fell incomplete because the veteran slipped on his route. It has been that kind of season for Washington, which had 10 players considered starters entering the season sidelined by injuries or suspensions. And the losing streak has no end in sight.

Biggest hole in the game plan: Washington's red zone offense. The Commanders failed to convert any of their three trips into touchdowns and it cost them. There was a false start on a fourth-and-1 that forced a field goal; there was a failed run by Mariota and the Ertz slip. Had he not slipped he would have been in position to score. The Commanders entered ranked 22nd in red zone offense. It cost them a game Sunday. -- John Keim
