That said, I think Reese is the only one available I would not move back. Looking at Brugler's latest rankings, he has Mendoza. It is my dream he is sitting there when we pick and someone loves him...

I think a lot of people see Caleb Downs this way but he is probably not going top 5 due to positional value of safeties.

There can be a ton of value in safeties that can cover super well. Derwin James. Kyle Hamilton. I’m not sure that’s what Caleb Downs is.

Im good with the pick as long as he plays another 3 years at or above the level he's at now. But how can you be a stud when you're an average run blocker? He's ranked 32 out of 76 T's. His run grades have been average for years. Trent Williams is a stud, Tunsil is a good player.

Is Penei Sewell a stud? 16th in pass blocking; Mialata is 17th. Tunsil is an above-average run blocker and elite pass protector. That's a stud.
 
On defense, I know the front 7 focus has been on Bain and Reese in this thread and Bailey is currently seen as a mid to late first in many mocks but I think he is clearly going to be in the top 10 convo as we approach the draft.

From all the scouting reports I have been reading, he was on Feldman’s Freaks list for his insane first step, explosion, agility and finishing burst. He has good length, plays with a relentless motor and is actually good in coverage for an EDGE player (he is a Stanford guy after all). He also has a bag of moves (but needs to develop more).

He leads college football with 66 pressures and has 16 more than the next highest guy. Last year, at Stanford, he apparently was the leader among players in major conferences at pass rush win rate.

The main question with him is frame and ability against the run but he has apparently shown better signs of shedding blocks in the run game this year. He also got into a fracas with a journalist this year so he will have to answer for that.

Perhaps Ezeiruaku with elite athleticism is a comp for him.

Bottom of top 10 is where I expect we will be once some of the injured guys return and with DQ calling the D. I foresee maybe a couple more wins this year
 
The real winner of today is the Commanders, taking the inside lead on the Dolphins.

There is the Super Bowl winner and there's everyone else. As long as you're everyone else, you may as well have a better draft pick.

All that said, I still root for the team to win. The above is just the silver lining, and it's not really sour grapes; there's truth to it.

For me, it’s playoffs or bust. Zero point finishing 7-10 or 8-9 like we did all those years under Jay and Ron
 
The season is now about identifying the players we want to keep and which ones have given up or are playing out the string not to get hurt for free agency.

Time to give guys their chance and not simply go with 31 or 32 year old players because they are veterans.

The vets failed. Time to move on.

Right, it would have been better if we finished with a top draft pick instead of going to the NFC Championship in 2024. :rolleyes:

I had hoped it was obvious. When you clearly don’t have a chance is when you can look at it that way. However as I mentioned, I still hope they win every game!

Remember the Giants in 2008 (may be off by a year)? Win the wild card, limp into playoffs, win the Super Bowl! All that, and against the first 18-0 team in league history. So I don’t really think you should ever throw in the towel until you are eliminated, but - if you believe the team doesn’t have a realistic chance at the Super Bowl, you can sleep at night with the comfort of knowing there is an upside in the big picture. It is a real upside, there should be no doubt. It can make a huge difference depending on timing.
 
That’s not realistic.

Those Giants teams had Michael Strahan, Justin Tuck, Plaxico Burress in his prime to go along with a good offensive line and a quarterback in Manning that was healthy and playing his best football.

Remember how the Giants front four dominated in the playoffs and held NE to 14 points in the Super Bowl?

Comparing that team to the 2025 Commanders is a bit of a joke.
