The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

Realistically, we find another win or two elsewhere. I don’t see us picking before the Titans or Jets. I could see the Saints, the preseason pick for worst team in the NFL, passing us.
Yeah those teams are pretty awful. But with our defence unable to get a stop against anyone right now I’m struggling to see where any wins come from. It’d be nice to grab some of that Jets bounty that they acquired recently!

Our not trading down has not always worked well either...Forbes, Davis, Young. It is dependent on the offer as well as who is available and if the guy making the final selection has a clue

That wasn’t an issue with not trading down. Would we have gotten somebody better than Darrisaw or Christian Gonzalez if we traded down? We passed on easy, consensus top talents, at premium positions, to draft obviously non 1st round talents, in the case of Davis, at less premium positions

Yup, that's why I added to end of my comment that the guy making the selection needs to have a clue.

I know there is a lot of Bain love in here. And rightfully so. But I am really starting to like Keldric Faulk. I think he has the highest upside of any edge in the draft. And he is an absolute monster against the run.

Also not a lot of sack productivity though.

I think part of what is giving Bain some extra shine is the way he makes us recall Jared Verse. He just hasn’t been as productive a collegiate pass rusher as Verse though.

For the trade down crowd, when has trading down worked for us? Each time we’ve traded down in the 1st round, we’ve been burned. Devin Thomas/Malcolm Kelly/Fred Davis year, Kerrigan for Watt, Olave for Jahan, etc.

It sounds great in theory but you usually want to stay where you are to grab the stud.

If we end up with say the #3 pick and we get offered a 3rd to move down one pick to a QB needy team, sure.

However, let’s get our All Pro upside guy early whoever that is
This is where Peters must show up! This is my theory and thoughts as you are entitled to yours and everyone theirs. It's all good. We need players and not FA players. This team is so lacking when it comes to youth and great player talent. Peters must nail the next couple of drafts and it can't be done alone in FA as we know.

Look who was GM or in charge of the drafts, DW.

Sure, but draft position isn’t what indicates injury history. Obviously circumstances play a part, but Burks had one good season with 444 yards. Rest are 221, 34, and right now 72. Noah browns best at 567, he’s also got 453, 555 and some other burks like seasons. Burks played 11 games his rookie season, 11 his second, then 5. Browns got 14, 8, 16, 10, 11, 2. My point is the post I made. I’d take Burks over brown at least in roster spot, but not depth chart. Meaning, I wouldn’t want to rely on him in a starting role. Similar to what we were all saying about Noah brown.
and hes injured and needs surgery. I'd love to get Tyson. Not sure he would be there when we are picking, but possible. That would be a great get to eventually replace terry in 2-3 years.

I was listening to the latest Stock Exchange midseason mock. Reese was their consensus 1:1. Seems like they really view him close to Parsons in terms of caliber of prospect. If these guys think that and he is there at our pick, he is our pick. They crave a piece like this

I get it in theory but look what AP did with our 3 2nds in 2024.
On the other hand, having more early picks gives us that many more data points to further judge AP’s drafting…

With that said, we also need our draft picks to be put in a position to succeed, and that’s a bit tough to judge right now IMO. Hopefully that changes.

I didn't know about Arvell Reese here's some clips he's number eight

In to trading down hopefully from no. 3 to 7 or 8 and pick him, though would not picking him at 7 if that is our first pick

Mocks have Reese going in the top 2 now.

I've not seen that. Which ones?
Kiper and somebody a few days ago I believe had him going 2. Then I watched a YouTube channel yesterday where they had Tennessee taking him at 1. It’s probably gonna get more common. He is an absolute wrecking ball.

I’m expecting the worst, that Reese will be gone. We start looking at Caleb Downs, or maybe Bain. My prediction if we don’t get Reese is that we trade down. But we are light years away.

Kiper's current list on ESPN has Reese #4.

CBS has him going #1 overall to Tennessee but interestingly only as him ranked as the 10th best prospect. That seems weird to me.

Walther Football and Draft Buzz both have him going in the 12 to 14 region, which might be a touch more realistic as LBs rarely go in the Top 10 anymore. I mean, Parsons was selected 12th overall.

Highest Draft Pick - LB
2025 - Campbell (31) Eagles
2024 - Cooper (45) Packers
2023 - Anderson (3) Texans - and he playes Edge for Houston so...
2022 - Walker (22) Packers
2021 - Parsons (12) Cowboys
2020 - Simmons (8) Cardinals

I'm not saying he can't go that high but he doens't project to be a full time Edge Rusher and the prevailing group-think in the league seems to be that like G, C, and S, you can get better ROI for LBs taken later.

It makes me very sad that we are already talking about next year's draft, especially because we only have six picks and most of them are in the lower rounds
