The All Things Terry Thread

Why would he want Aiyuk anyway? He's TM but just disgruntled and injured 3 years younger.

F that guy too.

Damn. I've taken some time off from the board during this stretch and getting caught up. I'm a little surprised at the sentiment around Terry.

I mean, I get it, but what happens if he shows up and finally balls out the rest of the year once he's healthy like he has in the past?

The guy is still barely past being a kid, and he made some tough decisions this offseason. I wouldn't be surprised if even he would have done this offseason differently, if given the chance.

While I'm annoyed at how he's handled this season, I'm still in the camp that I'd love him to retire a Redskin as a lifer.

Hail.

As I return to reality and peruse the board, a lot of Terry talk in a variety of places, so I thought I would bump the Terry thread.

I will say the following:
- The sentiment that Terry is to blame for his current situation is not universal. There was an email to Galdi, and I've seen other people blame Adam Peters for Terry being hurt because he should have "just paid Terry." This was the national story. And I commented at the time, there are some who were frustrated by his holdout, but for most fans who aren't close to it, they blamed the team more than the player. I find this absolutely ridiculous. Also, the fact Terry hasn't been able to stay healthy is kindof a justification of what Peters did by not over-paying him. So, if you have this thought, or if somebody around you has the thought, you or they need a Gibbs style head slap.

- I think he's going to IR next week. It was 4 weeks last time, and he didn't make it one game. That's not good. Quinn says he doesn't think it was serious. Same thing he said before. I'd take action he is on IR by mid-week.

- If there is a "blame pie" of what is responsible for derailing this season, Terry might not have the majority of the blame, but he might have either the largest of second largest slice of the pie. The holdout and his behavior messed up the juju, then he came back, and immediately got hurt, and there is nobody there to even come close to replacing his production.

He's going to be on the team next year. But honestly, he might not play consistently until at least then. And then maybe not even then....

One thing that Terry said just before the game he played struck me as weird. He said something to the effect that his game is about speed and sudden acceleration and deceleration so he didn't want to come back until he was 100%. Now obviously, he wasn't at 100% so maybe that was just him speaking badly, but football players are almost never 100% and are expected to play through knicks and cuts and strains, but it seems to me that if he or the team is waiting for him to return to 100% and he couldn't get there after a month then our expectations should be really low.

THIS AIN'T "HANG-NAIL" TERRITORY!!! HE AIN'T NO DAMN PIANO PLAYER!!!

seems like its just an insurance scam because hes butthurt about his contract.

Second and third opinions were clearly so he could justify sitting out

I don’t think so. If his second and third opinions were to find a doctor who would diagnose him with something WORSE than what the team docs were saying, to justify extra time out, then the team would explore going after his guaranteed money. Second/third opinions in the medical world are almost always about obtaining confirmation while hoping for a more positive diagnosis from another party.

I doubt he’d be that dumb, petty, or vindictive despite the non-zero amount of dumb, petty, vindictive behavior he has, to be fair, engaged in this calendar year. That would be psychotic.

I'll just be happy when he's gone. Real team players don't pull that stunt the way he did it. It cast a pall over the off-season. I don't blame AP one bit. This is all McLaurin. Good riddance

I try to leave personal sentiment out of these discussions. I want what is best for the team.

One thing that has hurt how fans think of Terry is how his absence after the Raiders game might have lead to Deebo getting hurt since he had to be the offense for a while. Without those two let’s face it, our offense sucked. So the compounding events point back to Terry whether we like it or not.

If we can get some picks back for trading Terry and he is happier with a new start on a good team, it might be the best option. If not then he’s gonna live with this stain on his image until he can ball out. Who knows when that is.

Good riddance
I think this is presumptive. I am not sure they trade him.

Fans tend to see things a certain way and with a lot of emotion.

I doubt AP sees it the same way. Not saying it is impossible but I think it is very unlikely. I don’t think he is doing anything wrong right now and is still popular with coaches and players. I also doubt there is this much blame by anyone on the team. The fans here seem pretty intent to blame him.

I definitely think the negotiations were stupid of him and he handled them exceptionally poorly. After that, even if getting injured is a consequence of that foolishness, I think the smart reaction is generally to try to leave the past in the past as long as he is doing his part NOW.

We will see how it plays out. To be clear; I don’t think they will get enough offered for a 30yo who already got injured a couple of times and missed a bunch of important games.

Just some more wishful thinking.

Cleveland Browns trade Jerry Jeudy straight up to the Washington Commanders for Terry McLaurin.

Jeudy is doing nothing really this year but he was a 1200 yard receiver last year with nobody throwing him the ball. And he just signed for 17M a year.

Goes to show how much overpaid Terry McLaurin is.

I don’t know about all that. Terry has been a diva, and it has hurt the team, but we are still much better with him on the field. Despite it all, I still hope he comes back and plays so well that we can put this behind us.

I think this is true at least for the next year and a half or so. If you were going to trade him, doing it during his 'hold in' was the time to do it. The injury and re-injury which make IR a real possibility make trading him now a lot more difficult as the most likely buyer would have been a team with championship aspirations who had a key guy go down with injury. McLaurin is not an attractive option for that team now.

It is what it is. But I think your take is basically right. We decided to keep him despite his childish offseason stuff and nothing has happened that really alters that decision.

So wait a minute.

A team can cut a player at almost anytime, even a fan favorite and fans, while upset, can claim "well, it's a business."

But when a player looks out for himself " he's a diva", "he's selfish" "not a team player" and "where's the loyalty?"

Well, loyalty is a two way street. And let's not act like the deal they came to was some massive, salary cap buster either.

Truth of the matter is skinzplay, if you were in Terry's shoes, you'd have done the same thing.

I have no problem with a player trying to get as much as they can for themselves.

The difference here seems to be that Terry didn’t have a clue what his value was. And failed to see reason and probably ended up taking the deal which was originally offered because he couldn’t bully the team to give him something extra.

I think his original ask and then refusal to admit his ask was ridiculous until after training camp is what makes this diva like.

Also, the eastern motors press conference was a bad look.

It’s one thing when the team Is completely low balling a player vs. their market value. It’s another when the ask is ridiculous.

So what role was his agent's in all of this?
Because it seems like all the blame gets put solely on Terry.

I've said I thought Terry was getting bad advice.

But Terry hired the agent and trusted him. Get better advice, because at the end of the, it's on Terry. He's the player and he makes the final decision.

Agree about loyalty, I disagree with the way #17 handled this whole ordeal. He wasn't drafted by this regime, they have no loyalty to him, and he certainly wasn't deserving of the kind of contract parameters he was seeking. His unreasonable, illogical demands have no doubt affected the way team leadership views him. He's outta here at the first possible opportunity. Teams can be cold, disloyal and downright stupid, but in this case, I'm firmly in AP's corner.

Something I noticed last night during passing out candy.

I saw a bunch of kids dressed up as commanders.

I think I saw more Daniels than anything, but it was really close to a tie between Daniels and Terry.

Terry McLaurin is MASSIVELY popular with the fan base, from kids through adults. This ordeal might have influenced the way some people who really pay attention view him, but I said before and I'll say again, that's the minority of the fan base.

Especially with national media types pushing the "just pay Terry" idea, even though all the reporting on what he was asking for was insane, didn't help.

I think not folding to Terry's demands might be the most impressive thing Peters has done wince he's been here.
