Commanders @ Dallas - Next Day Thread

Rather sad when they zoom to our guy in the booth, it’s just ‘doh!’ reactions to giving up big plays.

Meanwhile Eberflus who has been raked over the coals and rightfully so gets commended for adjusting to the obvious blueprint to stop us. He’s all fired up on the sidelines like he really did something. I’d bet everything I own they go back to the suck this Sunday.

I'm disappointed (I mean, I live in the DFW area so I've got it worse than most of you) but unperturbed by this loss. Truthfully, I'm unsurprised. Anyone who didn't think we were going to have to top 40 to beat the Dallas offense hasn't been paying attention this year.

We are the oldest team in the league (>28 years of age). We have the oldest starting 22 in the league (>27 years of age).

This is a sign of Peters and Quinn trying to maximize the window to win we have with Daniels on a rookie deal. It is a high risk/high reward strategy and right now we are experiencing the high risk part of the equation.

Last year, we got performances out of Wagner and Ertz that were a straight up a middle finger pointed at Father Time. This year they are both looking more their ages than possible products of the Fountain of Youth.

We took a shot on Lattimore. While he could still come good, that move is looking more like whiff at the moment. Even Peters will have those.

The offensive line, while showing signs of real progress, isn't settled yet. In 7 games, we have played with almost that many starting combinations and this was Cosmi's first live fire in 10 months after reconstructive knee surgery.

If I had to pick one thing I wish I'd seen yesterday, it's the deep ball. Honestly, I figured the Dallas D would come stack the line and dare Kliff to win it with our decimated WR corp. I'd have liked to see a couple of early deep shots to Lane. Even if you don't connect, you put the fear of god into Eberflus and his DBs.

Going purely on PFF scores

Jordan Magee, with near elite score from PFF, if he's as good as that and as good as the coaches leak to the local media, give him more reps.

Conerly still struggiling some. Hopefully the growing pains lessen as the season progresses

That coverage score ferom Lattimore is abysmal

Looks like Preston Smith had a bounce back game from last week

Not only that. Jerruh shouted out his HC Schotty Jr. specifically for spending all week working directly with Eberflus to change things up and game plan against their tendencies, in between his usual work with the offensive game plan.

If that’s not a subtle shot across the bow to Quinn from his former boss I don’t know what is.

I actually think that the fumble saved Jayden. He hurt it a few plays before and no doubt he would have finished the game and made it worse. That fumble play knocked him out of the game immediately.

The Armstrong injury sucks as he was having a great year but I like how explosive Martin looked and would love to see him get more burn off the edge

Good:

1. Tress Way
2. Daron Payne
3. Jeremy McNichols

Bad:

1. Turnovers
2. Penalties
3. JCM, sadly

Ugly:

1. Injuries
2. The last 40 seconds of the first half

Jeremy McNichols was an afterthought for me heading into the season and I thought Rodriguez would be better. While I like Bill, I think McNichols needs to get the ball more to see what he can do. Not suggesting it would be a magic elixir of sorts but simply think he's earned a chance to be the dude for a couple games IMO.

It was just too easy for the Dallas offense, just ridiculous. Out coached by damn Schottenheimer.

The revenge tour is going terribly - Caleb, Ego Johnson, Eberflus, Penix. Campbell will wanna drop 100 on us, and with this D, they probably can. Before halftime.

Voice_of_Reason will hate to hear who agrees with his point. I agree with it, too.

But Jay Gruden just weighed in on Jayden.

A. Stating the obvious on this point though clearly some fans don't think its a big deal. That is its indeed a big deal that Jayden is throwing to scrubs at WR.

Grant throws to him well look at SF's injuries. His comeback is yeah but SF scored 20 points. Their defense is playing well. Different deal with Washington. And Washington doesn't have a player like Christian McCaffrey so its not apples to apples.

B. As for accuracy he hits that WR depth and positioning can make a QB look bad if that's off from the WR end. and he suspected that's the case here.

Voice_of_Reason will perhaps like me taking a dig at PFF. So their Washington fan, Nick, goes on X and says Jayden's accuracy is off. But then on the radio he admits that teams are playing man and these WRs aren't seperating so there aren't places for him to go with the ball. So OK, Jayden hasn't been that accurate to dudes who aren't open? Also by PFF's own metrics, Jayden is having a good season, ranked ahead of dudes like Mahomes, Godd, Rodgers. So what's the point of taking a dig at Jayden? Seems like its become a cool thing for some Washington fans to take a shot at him -- to each their own but I don't get it.

This is a big difference between them and us. I just did a quick comparison, and if SF had given up the same number of points each week that we have given up, they'd be 2-5 instead of 5-2. Four of their seven games they've given up 20 points or fewer. That's winning defense.

Brother - we are missing our starting RB and our top 3 WRs. I think those positions are different from others in that, along with QB, there is usually a BIG talent drop-off in talent level between starters and backups. That's because of a couple things. First of all, elite talent at those spots is hard to find, and when you find it, you often have a ton of your salary cap invested in them.

So it's not like the OL where you may have 2-3 guys at a spot who can all play within a relatively similar range.

I don't care what the opposing defense looks like, going from Terry and Deebo and Austin Ekeler to Lane, Moore, McCaffrey, and a rookie RB... it's going to present some challenges.

Not excuses. But it's a big factor.

Do you remember the Lions last season? They had far more injuries, injuries to the same position and they were starting players in their secondary off the street. And they still won 12 games. Ekler is not that big of a loss, the RB room is just fine.

Jayden also missed throws last year, they were just easily forgotten because of all the other good plays.

Maybe you are just a tougher critic than me, but I don’t expect Jayden to be able to turn shit to ice cream. Even if he has shown the ability to do it from time to time. It’s not sustainable for anyone.
If you really think Jayden is playing as well as he did last season yeah we don't see this the same way. Of course missing weapons hurts, a lot. But he is flat out more inaccurate this season, even many of his completions have been off target where last year they were right in stride to maximize RAC.

Wow, Luvu and Wagner each were in on 60 plays. That's a hell of a lot for players whose speed and age are in question.

It's nice to see MaGee getting reps but he was only in on 22 plays

Does Luvu have a speed issue? But at least they are giving Magee more reps. Hope this is the case.

I think we are seeing the same things. I just think this years inaccuracies are more related to the missing parts, the inability to have any level of consistency, and his own injuries. It’s all relative in my mind. I don’t even think bringing Terry back less than 100% immediately changes it either. I don’t think he just forgot how to throw accurately overnight. Hard to be a very accurate passer without trust and confidence.
