Random Commanders Thoughts

This. Although JD5 does get fiery sometimes. Yelling at Luke. Kicking Jacory Brooks to the sideline for screwing up. “Get the fucking play in!” Last year.

I think it’s a good balance. Keeping people loose and being fiery when needed.

And I think it’s exactly correct that he is less willing to accept mental mistakes. Yelling at Moore isn’t going to make his hands better. He obviously just can’t catch the way an NFL receiver needs to. If you’re going to yell at someone about Moore dropping the ball, yell at the coaches to put someone else in there. In private.

I will say for Moore though, that I think he’s really great on special teams. Like, good enough to keep around for just that. I’ve seen plays where he just looked like a demon, and said to myself, “that was Moore? What?”
It's really unfortunate he just doesn't catch the ball well, which is kindof core requirement for a receiver.

You're right, he's good on specials. They like him.

When Terry is back he won't see the field on offense, though.

I was shocked Moore made the team. He dropped so many passes during the preseason. We used to joke about 50/50 guys. He might be a 20/80 guy.

Rod Gardner laughs at this guy.

Sort of a random thought, but in the old days pretty much every Black QB had to convert to another position if they wanted to play NFL football. Today, our starting QB is Black and our we have a White ex-QB trying to make the transition to WR in order to get snaps in the NFL.

Yeah and back when there were few black QB's there were also virtually 0 White WR's or RB's. Ed McCaffrey was just about the only one I remember at WR, oh yeah Rickey Proehl, lol.

Instead of feeling like I’m seeing a good thing in an Eagles loss, I feel like I’m seeing a bad thing. Jaxson Dart looking like a top 5 QB and the Giants emerging as a top tier team.

Dart impressed me too, Skattebo moreso, reminds me a bit of another guy who played in New York and wore #44 (not that he is a HoF guy, just his stye). You don’t want to read too much into a Thursday night game, but I agree the Giants look improved.

The Eagles are still the team to beat, but they were beatable tonight. We are only a half game back now, which is a good thing.

The NFC East is looking tough in general, as it should be.

Eagles DL and whoever was spying had no answer to Jaxson Dart. Hopefully we can scheme up to take away his scrambling lanes cause that guy is a problem if you only rush 4.

A lot of people were down on this guy in the Pre Season. Saying he was fat, out of shape and slow. The best part is how excited he is to be here and how mich he actually loves proving people wrong. This dude is a baller. Period

He was the best of the rest. And he didn't make the team initially. He was cut on cut down day and then signed to the active roster after.

We didn't have 5 WRs who deserved to play. He's really good on ST though.

I did not like the trade at the time given how bad he looked last year and how out of shape he was but I’ve been wrong so far

I’m still not totally sure I resign him either given his age and how he needs a contract year to be highly productive.

Depending on who we sign, he is a guy who could get us back a 3rd or 4th round comp pick in 27 if he leaves in FA

(Also Jauan Jennings, Rashid Shaheed and Wandale Robinson would all be interesting adds here in FA - Jennings because he is the best blocking WR in the league, Shaheed as a guy who could absolutely explode with Jayden throwing him the ball deep & Wandale as an emerging slot)

Something people forget, and Deebo talked about a bit before the season, my guy had pneumonia and was hospitalized during the season. I honestly didn't even know this until I read the story in Commanders Wire. I just knew Deebo's production had dropped off and he seemed to be out of shape.

However, after reading this and hearing a few other interviews about it, a lot of things made a lot more sense.

3 other things:
  1. Peters knows Deebo. I don't think he would have brought in a guy who had the chance of being washed up
  2. It was a 5th round pick so low risk
  3. They brought in Wes Welker, who was Deebo's WR coach with SF and was a big part of his success. So, clearly they were aware of the best way to maximize his potential.
As to whether to bring him back, I think some of that will depend on how the rest of the season plays out. But I probably would bring him back, because the WR FA market is non-existent at the moment, and who knows what's going to happen with Terry. Couple that with not having 2nd and 4th round draft picks, we probably are going to struggle to replace Deebo if we don't bring him back.

I’m sure it’s only me and I accept that, but…

I think it’s time to cease with the frequent references to ‘the other board’.

1. Nobody here that wasn’t a member of the group that was left high and dry cares and

2. No current boyfriend (or girlfriend) wants to hear about a past love(r).

This feels overly sensitive. I catch up on every thread on this section of the board each day and it’s really not mentioned that often. It may in fact be mentioned the most by VOR, who is a staff member here. Maybe SIP sometimes, in his long screeds referencing past opinions held. You welcomed us here with open arms, for which we’re grateful, but we all do still have a shared past with many other people on this board that is totally normal to reference (as I’m sure many who have been here much longer do).

This is the place that made it and “won” in the end. Not that it was a competition, but you’re here and the other place isn’t. You all foresaw that the other board being owned by the team would end in tears for various reasons, and you were right! (I know there were other disagreements with the culture of that board, but this isn’t the place for that conversation, I just wanted to acknowledge that I realize that the team owning the board wasn’t the only reason you guys set up shop here).

And you created a beautiful home and welcomed us as refugees when the time came. I like to think we’ve contributed some since we’ve arrived, and done our part to contribute respectfully to the activity around here.

But this post coming in the place that is prideful about not having heavy moderation is kind of ironic. I’m not even one who really brings up ES or the past, as we move forward here, but this kind of wrinkled my nose a bit. I don’t think what you’re referring to is particularly noticeable or disruptive, so calling it out feels like it’s been a building frustration for you. Which is valid, and I’ll personally note that going forward (I realize I’m posting as if I’m a spokesman for the dead ES contingent here, but really I can only speak for myself).

But the reality is that there are a group of us who only found ourselves here after losing the other place. For some it was by choice, while some weren’t aware of this place before. But for all, this place is becoming home now. I don’t think casually (and rarely) referencing the past (while it’s still so recent, I would expect it to fade over time) is that offensive to what you’ve built here—what you’ve built has lasted, it endures. It speaks for itself. And calling it out is a little pointed towards your newer members who are approaching this place with good intentions and an open mind, I think.

At the same time I have empathy for you folks who had your own paradise here, built with intention and organically grown from likeminded people over time…and then were suddenly inundated with people from another place (which you had left with purpose, while they had not) with other norms and expectations and posting habits and traditions. You’ve all been welcoming to us but the influx of new people and ideas isn’t only beneficial (though hopefully it is that), I can see how it would be jarring to have people come in with pre-existing relationships, references, and histories that aren’t from here, who just make themselves at home. I can see how that would be alienating a little. The internet is weird like that.

So I appreciate that it’s probably been just as weird for you folks as it has been from us web surfing refugees. But we don’t mean anything by it, I feel confident in saying, even though again I can only technically speak for myself. This is your home turf, and we’re still just kicking the mud off our boots and warming up here, I acknowledge that. But this post feels a little bitter, and why? The mere mention of some posters’ shared history from the dead place some of us came from is that disruptive or agitating to you? It’s not like we’re dirtying up the board by re-litigating the mods ban-happiness or something annoying. What I see is mostly just referencing past posts and debates that people naturally share, which is normal message board behavior that happens to have taken place before we got here.

It’s a message board, people post things the majority don’t care about all the time. If we’re all welcome and coexisting here, respectfully, I think this sort of sentiment is a little damaging, even though I understand it.

I’m not going to respond with multiple paragraphs and 100s of words, but suffice it to say that I hear you and understand the reply.

It has been about a year now and many of you have become a valuable part of the fabric here, yourself included. It’s time, again in my opinion, to move on with the ES references for the reasons I stated.

This has nothing at all to do with moderation, much less heavy moderation, as I have posted this as my thoughts, nothing more. It was an opinion and a suggestion to consider, nothing more. If you take exception to my thoughts, as apparently you have, that is fine and dandy.

Don't talk about Sauron.
Don't talk about Mordor.

Got it!

🤣🤣🤣

He's a somewhat tangential commanders though: When we were looking for QBs under every rock, the guy Bram kept coming back to that we should check out was .... Justin Fields. Because of his athletic ability. And he kept saying, if you can get him in the right situation, he could be special. Because he's a special athlete.

He's not wrong about the special athlete part of it.

The reason I can put this in the "Random Commanders Thoughts" thread is he devoted HOURS AND HOURS to the thought of bringing Fields here.

I wrote him a few times just to mention that the real problem with that theory is Fields struggles with the forward pass. Which is part of the job description for starting QBs in the NFL in 2025.

Anyway, Fields just had one of the worst stat lines I've ever seen, and I'm really glad we didn't either trade for him in the draft or sign him or trade for him at any point.

That's a -10 yard net total passing yards.

This is a really tough look for my guy.

Not quite the legendary 0.0 rating for Tim Hasselbeck, but man oh man, that's a REALLY stinky stat line.

This was Timmy's performance:

I remember being at that Timmy game. That was a life decision I wish I could revisit.

I wonder if Kliff might be interested in any of the higher profile college openings that are starting to emerge, and if any of those schools might come after him.
