2025 Washington Commanders- All Things Defense

I didn't see the whole game but did we blitz any? All I saw was us rushing 4 vanilla style with no pressure on their QB.
Im sure we did at some point but it seemed watching the game in real time I don't recall more than a couple of occasions where we sent more than the front 4.

I'm not sold on Whitt. What ever happened to dialing up the pressure early in the game so as to rattle their QB. I want a smash mouth defense, and I don't think I'll ever get it with Whitt.

Tyler Owens - Have heard nothing but good

Tyler Owens is absolutely an athletic specimen, I think his problem is probably that he's just really, really stupid. And, it's unfortunately that special kind of stupid that allows someone to believe obvious falsehoods like the earth is flat and space doesn't exist.

Not that being highly intelligent is requisite for nfl success...but, starting at safety is a complex enough position that I'd wonder about his ability to process adequately.

Texas Tech DB Tyler Owens says he doesn't believe in space https://share.google/Etx0TtKxs1HVXZYXO

He is, at a minimum, intelligent enough to use the term heliocentric in a statement. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Idk, I get your point but our locker room doesn’t feel strong right now. The bit of magic and solid brotherhood that carried us last year feels very fragile right now and has since week 1. Things are spiraling on defense, I think the wrong type of spark could light the powder keg in a bad way. We don’t have a strong, pervasive culture successfully installed yet, we caught a glimpse of what that could look like last year and then after sniffing the NFCCG once we’re back to being afraid of our own shadows again and playing soft.

We aren’t one asshole DB away from winning a SB at this point, even if that asshole was an All-Pro. This dude isn’t an All-Pro.

If we want to get Whitt fired sooner we should probably bring him in though, they’ll be fist fighting at practice by week 9. That might actually help us
I think after the season we had last yr, we should've had momentum coming into this season. But imo, I think the whole Terry hold in fiasco fucked up the brotherhood culture somewhat .

Now if you want to blame both sides, AP included, fine, but I still think that's what's causing this rough start, and lack of communication.

Now I've always been a pessimist unfortunately,,so I may be thinking about the worst moving forward, especially with our difficult schedule and the way defense is playing. I just hope we can right the ship sooner than later or else we are looking at sub .500 record. Hail!

Doesn't work that way unless you're above average talented across the board, which they are not.

And you know this for a fact or is this just another one of your opinions??
Why have the Eagles been successful the last few years with seemingly no dropoff?

Talent level/depth across the board. This team doesn't have that luxury and you're currently witnessing it live.

Why are there always new teams that make the playoffs every year? Shouldn't the teams that made it last year still be there since you believe in year to year momentum?

So since last year was our first year making it far in a long time, I'm going to use your logic. So, according to your logic, we actually kept the core of our players/talent that helped us reach the NFCCG last season...... I'd argue not only did we not have a huge drop off in depth and talent but actually got a little better with off-season signings and draft, and brought back all the coaching staff. So now what? Sight specifics, not just some general statement of " it doesn't work that way" 😂

How did they get better? Leaning on core starters that were already in the twilight of their careers like Ertz,Wagner,McLaurin?

Bringing back the often injured Noah Brown?

Draft picks? Conerly is starting at RT with your normal rookie ups and downs. If not for injury to Bates, would Sinnott have even seen the field? Same for McCaffrey.
Peters inherited a roster bereft of talent and draft picks. He hit the lottery last season by the staff squeezing the last bit of juice out of aging starters. Not his fault the previous regime left the cupboard bare.
It's always amusing to me how some fans think this team has "arrived" when it has miles to go to become a perennial contender.

This team is nowhere near on par talent wise with a true perennial contender and that's with #5.

Honest question: Right now, have they closed the gulf between them and the Eagles?

You know you're kind of getting off the track here a bit,,I'm just talking about momentum. And in my reply to Conn's post talking about how the locker room isn't the same.

I was piggybacking off that,, saying there should have been momentum after the season we had last year since we did bring back the majority of the players from last year that made it to the NFC championship Game.

I wasn't comparing our team to the eagles or the other team who continuously make the playoffs... I was trying to give reasoning why the locker room isn't as hyped and tight as it was last season.

And absolutely we have not come close to being the team the eagles are right, now those are just facts I'm not denying that.

There is a reason I thought last season was going to be a 7-8 win season (and only that many wins due a late season surge of hope) before Jayden Daniels quickly turned into JD5. When I carry that over to this season and I look up and down the roster to assess what I would consider upgrades, it still leaves me thinking that as a roster it is severely lacking compared to other teams that are playoff hopefuls & contenders, especially on the defensive side of the ball in particularly.

Watching this Bronco defense, what strikes me is how fast they are, specifically at LB. We need an infusion of youth at the position.

Not a very compelling take on the solution for the problem. Basically just “reduce our looks and practice them a lot”. Which feels like a great way to continue getting out-schemed and out-coached as you can’t confuse any QB’s and everyone knows what you’re doing early every game

Time to fast track Kaho and Medrano. Copycat league. Gonna see wheel routes and and attempts to get Wagner in coverage. They made the roster. They can’t just be special teams players. Get em some game reps.

Not sure how fair it is, but we’re coming close to a point where the judgment on Whitt.

That was the exact same narrative last year too. They has to pare down the defensive playbook because Whitt realized that this unit was in its first year of implementation and not year 3 like his year before with Dallas. They improved for a few games before reverting to the mean.

Year 2 with the same coaching staff and basically the same roster… and here we are again.

But this has been a common theme with Washington’s defenses since as long as I can remember.

But the unit is definitely tackling better and gang tackling. The run defense has definitely improved. Bijan is Bijan… some guys are special.
