Official Game Thread - Week 1 - Giants @ Commanders

He had though 5 pressures not a bad start
Newton had 5 pressures?

I think they really see Newton as their pass-rushing DT type, and they have packages they want him to play where he can just rush.

He'll get fewer overall snaps because they see him more as a specialist than an every down player.

Just a theory which seems to fit the facts.

I think since we run a TON of hurry up they thought they could get all their ducks lined up in a row and then kick it on 4th. I presume with a 2nd down run and no timeouts, I ASSume we had 2 plays called. Or a red zone GTG hot play of the day at the ready to be audibled too.

The 2nd down run has me scratching my head. Hated the call (because JD didnt score from 13 yards out)

I would be curious to hear what JD had to say about that. Truthfully, since he won't call anyone out. I am thinking Ertz or someone else was supposed to break out vs in... how would a ref know? JD already in motion that way throws it out of bounds.

I think you're completely right. They had 2 plays called, and they thought they could get the scramble, if it didn't score, a play and a FG.

And they would have actually succeeded absent the intentional grounding.

I think if you're going to do that, the play call has to be a corner fade. That way it really can't be grounding, the WR is going to run to the corner, the QB throws to the corner, and it's either complete or out of the endzone.

It looked like they tried to get Ertz on some type of an in and out towards the corner, but it took too long to develop. And the Giants got pressure.

I don't mind the sequence THAT much. I think the part of it that bothers me most is the play call on 3rd down. That's got to be a catch and throw, one receiver route. Don't even allow for the possibility of pressure. Though, if I am the defender, I mug the hell out of the receiver, because I don't care if they call a penalty. Worst case it's 3rd and 1 with 1 second left, or maybe even an untimed down. Either way, they're going for it on 4th and goal or kicking a FG.

I also would have been fine with them spiking the ball and kicking the figgie on 4th down.

According to a post I saw on X.

If I am the Giants, no way I'd start Dart until Thomas is back.
I would imagine that is their plan. Yesterday showed just how important coaching really is in the NFL. The Giants have a shit ton of talent, especially on the defensive side of the ball. And they were handily beaten down.

McCaffrey for his faults, is a good kick returner and good blocker. And for the 100th pick in the draft -- a pick or so away from being a 4th rounder, that would make him a good pick. Most 3rd round picks statistically speaking bust.

I know we want more. I want more. But if we get the next the James Thrash out of him, the pick is more hit than miss.

That was a great block by JCM, I actually thought it was #82 not #22.

Russell must be french kissing Daboll's butt. Russ lost his super power of feeling pressure and escaping. Now hes just a short qb that cant see anything behind a shit oline. Id bring in Winston

Actually I'd rather them start Dart. I want them to beat Dallas. Not that I per se think Dart does it. But I'd take the mystery box chances with him over Wilson.
or at least Winston who can see over the line

Bottom line is Giants are bottom of the division so Yesterday is our preseason

I love Logan Paulsen and all his coverage of the team but on rare occasion I disagree with him. To some extent the same drill with Mark Bullock. But I can never understand both of their push back to fans who they think are just too harsh on Brian Robinson and he's better than we think, and he's the best back on the team (before the trade) And they both in different ways said temper your expecations about Croskey-Merritt. Logan seemed though higher on Bill than Bullock.

But the point that Logan made on one of his podcasts, in response to a question about Robinson as to why isn't he good considering having Jayden as a running QB along with this system should help him be even better. Logan disagreed with some version of on read option sometimes the RB is exposed and can become a sitting duck.

Look, Logan can school me on football to say the least. So am not doubting his acumen. But I do think there was some almost hipster take on why Robinson is better than us malcontent fans think -- others in the media like Bram, Willingham, Adam Epstein among others would echo that and love to push back on criticism to Robinson.

I just felt silly to me. Robinson has been pretty much a 4 yard a carry guy. 700-800 yards guy. Nothing special. You didn't need a PHD to see that his vision is meh and even the power running was inconsistent. And conversely if you watch enough college prospects you can see plenty who are better than him, including Croskey-Merritt. And I said so among others here before Bill had a snap of play.

But yes generally running backs are better when they play with good running QBs. Among others, Alfred Morris was Walter Payton playing with 2012 RG3. But never the same after that.

Farrar's point below fits what I and many other fans thought would likely happen. And its part of the reason why I've thought well before yesterday that this running game will actually be good. And not just Croskey-Merritt -- I think Rodriguez is better than robinson, too. Heck I also think our practice squad RB, Donovan Edwards is better than Robinson, too. And I am not being sarcastic.

And Croskey-Merrit doesn't just have more juice than Robinson but he also has more moves including a wicked spin move, he's more decisive and has better vision.

Shocker Robinson yesterday with a pedestrian, 3.7 YPC yesterday. And look if anyone can fix him its Shanny and that RB system, will see.

It's a good point about Winston. If I were Daboll, I'd start him, he's such a wild variance QB, wild swings. But what the hell, you might get "good " Winston. At a minimum, Winston isn't boring. Wilson is boring as heck.

It's a lot of fun. I am just thinking what would i do if I am Dabol? I wasn't even thinking about Winston. But from what I was yesterday from Wilson, I'd go with Winston. Though granted the benching would come off a bit dysfunctional coming this early.

It brings us back to our QB woes pre-Jayden. It's fun to watch others go through the pain we've endured for eons.

I'd liked BRob and was hoping for his success but he was just lacking in certain areas such as vision and speed. I'm very happy that we have Bill and hopefully he can boost our backfield like we need. I am very optimistic for that after yesterday.

its strange why they signed both of them. When Russ became available were they thinking its almost like Aaron Rodgers?

Yeah its weird. I think Dabol is boxed in. He I am sure wants to turn the page and show that he found a franchise QB or so he hopes in Dart. But how well is Dart going to look with that O line?

ive never seen dart play ... rarely watch college ball (fishing or hunting on saturdays)

Most college to pro QBs arent going to get or require those years of clipboard anymore. Either your in or you arent. Id let him play dallas defense without parsons
