Maybe so, but I’ll add that the Bears won their opener and started 4-2 last year.

The Titans were horrible all season, but they only won those three preseason games by a combined 8 points, a far cry from the 70 point margins that worry me.
 
It depends...do we field a team that plays well together and is sync'd or do we field a team that hasn't played together in preseason and has no feel for what it's components are doing as a TEAM. So..how did the team practice??? was it practice as you intend to play or practice not to get hurt. I have a feeling they will come out flat and sync too late inm the game...I hope I'm wrong..

Yeah, they beat the Panthers, Jags, Titans, Rams (somehow), but managing to lose to the Colts. Preseason means nothing. Since ~2016, there has been a diverging correlation between preseason win% and point differential and regular season success.

Last year, the Bears had a +68 point differential, won 5 games. Maybe the Giants come out hot, maybe we lay a big fat egg, entirely possible. But we did this last year and started 7-2. We scored 43 points last preseason and were one of the top offenses in the league; we gave up the same amount of points--and sucked hot butt on defense. It means diddly-poo.
 
Fair enough, it does seem that preseason success does not correlate with regular season success, so in that sense it is not predictive.

However, my hypothesis is that phoning in the preseason will correlate with slow starts, e.g. week 1 losses. I don’t know if the data supports that or not, but there is no question it has been true for DQ as a head coach.

I put this is another thread but it belongs better here

A lot of this type of vibe from their fans, in response most of their fans expect a win. Interesting from this perspective, its a twist for Giant fans, i know my share of them and they've been pessimistic in recent years. They are riding high from this off season. While I suspect, they might have their day in the sun on Sunday (hope l am wrong), I think their season crashes at some point.













 
I saw somewhere Nicki predicting they go 8-9 this season. Sheehan seemed to hint Standig on Friday is giving a predictiom and it won't be a hot one with the fans.

I guess am an oddball in this mix. I think they win double digits, good season, but get off to an 0-2 start.

Last year 3 teams from the bottom 3rd on power rankings made a massive jump: Vikings, Broncos, and of course the Commanders.

Maybe. But if we start against the Panthers or Titans--a far lesser opponent than the Bucs--this is a different conversation.
 
I predict what happens in the first quarter, will be off the charts completely unpredictable. Like every game.

First 2 series: Von Miller strip fumble Newton return TD followed by a 75 yard TD to Nabers.
 
Are we a true contender or not? Comfortable win at home. Quinn will have this team motivated. Jayden is a special talent. 27 - 13.

You should have heard the guy on 106.7 this morning from the Fan in New York. He made tr1/Bubba from old school ES look pessimistic. Everything is working for the Giants, top 5 defense, Conerly will "wet his pants" being in his first NFL game, "going up against the likes of Abdul Carter," but the Giants rookies all looked great. Said defense wins in this league, repeatedly. It was rather interesting.

The more I think about this game, I both love and hate Week 1. The over/under reactions to what we see in preseason really can not be qualified or quantified. It's all conjecture right now.

I think you missed the gist of the post. I am predicting wild emotional swings early and often.

You can't call a jinx by me predicting we give up a passing TD to their stud. At least I am elaborating on more than just a boring dart throw score.

This aint hockey with Kolzig 40 saves 1 minute left for a SO and the announcer blowing the whole thing.

It wouldn't be a Redskins/Football Team/Commanders game without the wild emotional swings. I'm ready for it.

Yeah I can imagine. I was thinking the Giants coming into this season are sort of a little like how Washington was perceived coming into the previous season -- as an upstart team that could surprise.

But digesting everything, the Giants are way more hyped as the upstart darling of the season compared to what we were last year.

They seem to think their D line will just dominate games. And I get the skepticism from our fan base about it because we once thought the same about our unit. The difference though is Dexter Lawerence is a beast, for real, not based on hope, he really is dominant unlike Jonathan Allen or Payne. And Brian Burns is better than Sweat is-was by a clear peg. Then you got Thibeadeux, who while is inconsistent is definitely better than Chase Young. And Abdul Carter is coming in with a lot of hype. That's a lot of guns on that unit.

Personally, I think the Giants are an 8-9 team but pesky. Sort of like Ron's peak season here when they went 7-9.

As I mentioned I don't love this match up. And its not about the Giants in general. I love the rematch in NY for us. The lack of play time of the starters in the preseason. Noah and Terry unlikely playing the full game. The O line needing to gel fast, etc.

I watched Quinn's interview with Chick Hernandez last night where Quinn admitted they didn't play the way he expected in game 1. I think some of that was the lack of urgency of his preseason prep. And it feels like he doubled down hard on that approach this preseason. Giants have taken the opposite approach and I think it serves them to help beat Washington on Sunday.

But....

A. Thomas out might change this game if that happens. If he's out it feels more like a toss up for me.

B. If the Giants keep getting hype leading into this game, it might awaken the Giant so to speak in Washington.

I do think there might be some undercurrent hangover from last season where they need to be shook into finding their edge again. But maybe all the Giants hype leading into this game does that shaking organically.
