I think that contract is going to kneecap the Packers from being able to keep a bunch of their players. $47m/year is as absolutely insane number for anyone not a quarterback. I get that he’s good, but GB way over paid. Splashy signing now that may end in disaster for them. Can you imagine the headache he will create with his podcast if things go south, as they might, this season?

I agree with this. Why was he paid so much more than Myles Garrett? Because they had the privilege of also giving up two 1sts and a player?

I really don’t think you can pay non QB’s $47 million and still build out the rest of the team.

Also, we need to pay Tunsil immediately.

The problem with paying Tunsil now is he may not wish to discuss an extension at this time...like Terry did. A year ago I began making these statements like this about getting Terry signed. It would be sweet to get Tunsil set now.

I would follow the same kind of contract that Terry got in regards to contract length. Update his last year and then give him another 3 years on top of that

Tackles age so much better than WR’s. I think Tunsil will still be excellent at age 35-35. The aav is going to be bigger than Terry’s. And years two and three will have more guarantees.

Statistically, Heinicke is a better QB in every category I could find. First of all, he's had 3 times as many starts as Johnson has - which is a pretty big deal. It really isn't close. Other than being familiar with Kingsbury's offense, Johnson is a lesser QB in just about every way.

If you are confident in Mariota's health, I would swap them out in a heartbeat.

I am only half joking about Heinicke as QB3. If we are rostering a third quarterback, you have to figure Mariota is not ready to go in an emergency, and Heinicke would be an upgrade over Johnson and a good fit. Riggo’s Rag has an article about it.

I think we probably stick with Johnson and Hartman as our reserves behind QB2, but there are better options out there. I would also look at CJ Beathard.

I read last night that the rules around the tag mean he’d get 120% of what he’s making now, which would be $38M for the one year. I’d have to do more research to see why that would be the case for him (rather than the usual average of the top-5 salaries at his position) because that’s not something I’d read before

my understanding is the 120% applies to players who are playing on their second franchise tag. First franchise tag is the average of the top 5 contracts.

Allegretti supposedly can play center so am not as concerned about that spot but do have concerns.

I don't think there is a legit backup outside Wr on the roster. Lane and McCaffrey are both more natural slots.

The problem, as of now, with Allegretti being the backup center is he's also the starting RG. So, if he has to slide to Center, somebody else has to play RG. So you've weakened two positions with one injury in theory.

Biadacz just needs to stay healthy for 4-5 weeks until Cosmi is back, then it makes sense.

I have to admit,I am glad we didn't give up 2 first and a player for Parsons. Sometimes the best signing is the one you dont do.

I don't think a trade to us was ever an option to begin with. But yeah, it's high risk, high reward, I guess. You have to win the SB with that move.

I wouldn't blow a fuse, but I would demand for a change in GM.

I will say the first somewhat kind thing about Heinicke I have said in maybe 4 years: he's definitely better than Hartman.

But I'm not sure he's better than Josh Johnson. At least Johnson can get the ball to the sidelines.

I think the Hive needs to come to grips that absent a mid-season because of injury signing, Heinicke's career is probably over. The entire league seems to have finally caught up to the fact his ceiling is backup XFL QB, which he was before we signed him as the emergency COVID QB.
