Fore!!! The Golf Thread

We played Twin Lakes golf course in Clifton, VA yesterday and the course was in terrible shape. There were bare spots everywhere. They were in the middle of the fairways and on the greens too. It's a cool course to play but the condition of it is inexcusable.

Is it safe to say that they didn't offer any kind of discount for those subpar, (pun fully intended), conditions?

We use the 'Tee Time Golf Pass' coupon book and the discount with that was $55 which was way too much for those conditions. We didn't complain about the conditions either, but I doubt we'll see them again this year.

I have played in probably 10 or so tournaments over the years with generally not great results. I played another one last Wednesday on a very hilly course with intermittent rain. For once, not only did our foursome play pretty well, but I actually contributed (mostly in the short game). Hit a 40 ft eagle putt and a number of birdie putts. We finished 15 under par. No idea where that put us in terms of finishing rank but it was nice to play well, especially as I have some personal stuff going on and my head is all over the place these days.

Played Bristow Manor (Manassas) on Tuesday with my foursome. The conditions were OK.

I then played Locust Hill in Charles Town WV yesterday with the wife. That course was in bad shape. Crab grass everywhere.

Om and I have played Bristow Manor many many times including once in a monsoon.

I don’t really love it. Too flat. Too many holes with a gorge midway down the hole you have to navigate.

Boone, you fixing to put together a golf outing in conjunction with BGO get together for the Raiders game?

Not sure I could make it, as I’m going to LA the next weekend, but would be an enticement to come up to the ole stomping grounds, especially if it’s at a boss course!

Maybe next year if we can get more members committing to come in advance.

I'm thinking it might make more sense just to make the first home game of the season the *official* BGO tailgate game each season... And maybe pick a road game each season to do one on the road.

I need a 4th for tomorrow Thursday 8/28 11:20 at Algonkian in Sterling VA if anyone wants to join us. We're pretty much bogey golfers. You would pay for your tee time. PM me if you're interested.

I kind of stumbled into this thread out of boredom and just wanted to check it out. I'm not a golfing guy by any means at all. I have worked as an Executive Chef at a number of very fine golf clubs though; Doral, Gibson Island and Lakewood. Met some really cool people and had a really good time. Golfing has never been my thing.

The thing that I find so ironic as men is our obsession for our various "tools." I'm a guitar player and I have 8 guitars, a shit ton of pedals and four or five different amps. So it's cool to see that you guys also obsess about your "tools" like I do.

I hope you have a good Autumn season this year

I love the game. I hate the game. Brings out a bipolar response in me.

My 2 favorite golf quotes-

Golf is a good walk spoiled.

Golf is God’s way to keep white men humble.

Indeed. The golf gods are fickle....

I played college tennis so anything with a racket or paddle I'm good at, but golf though is a different beast all together. Most humbling game I've ever played.

My biggest issue was swaying back on the backswing. Swaying back on your right leg seems like the right thing to do since you're loading up, but it is almost impossible to get back on your front foot in time to really compress the ball.

Stack and tilt taught by Tom Saguto on youtube is that I try to do nowadays.

Amen! I walk 9 holes on Thursday afternoons during the summer in a league at a shitty city course, (Carroll Park in Baltimore....near the stadiums).
I'm hot and cold....usually lukewarm. I am, however, a member of the "hole-in-one" fraternity. They can never take that away from me!

I’m not listening to anybody who wears blue slacks, and a red shirt, with a white belt.
He's the Bob Ross of golf instruction. "There are no mistakes, just happy accidents!"
