As it is McLaurin's deal may end up being for 2 years, depending upon the guarantees, incentives, etc.

When Washington did not draft a wide receiver in Round 1 or 2 of the draft or acquire a potential deep threat in trade, it made the team that much more dependent upon McLaurin coming back.

And based upon what we have seen so far from Conerly and Amos I think Peters did the right thing.

Thing is we already controlled Terry for at least 2 years. He was under contract for this season and the Franchise tag next year would have been less than this contract he just agreed too.

Eager to see the contract details and I hope that TM caved into AP's demands myself. I want this team to have a GM that handles the business portion rather than a player or players.
 
Terry being a diva for contract negotiations and terry being a diva on the field and in the locker room are two very different things.
Sure he used some diva tactics trying to get a new deal but he's never shown even tiny flashes of that when it comes to the football side of things so i think its a little unfair just to slap the diva label on him and say his legacy with the team is tarnished.

To each his own obviously but as long as that side of him never shows up as far as football is concerned i couldn't give a shit and he'll go right back to being the same ole terry he's always been to me.

Does it really matter who “caved,” though…or if either side even caved at all? I guess in a way it’s better for the franchise moving forward if the GM and owner did not cave, but will probably be impossible for anyone to know if this was one side caving or just both sides going through whatever they needed to do to reach a compromise.

Because I’m doubting that Peters will pull a Bruce Allen and announce what his offer was to Terry in a press release lol…
 
I won’t ever get on a fan for feeling a certain way about a player. We are fans for a reason and we like who we like for our own reasons. Some people were in the “pay Terry whatever he wants” group, while others wanted him shipped to Cleveland to wallow in misery. Those are the far ends of the argument of course, but people had their opinions and still have them about Terry personally and that’s fine. We are fans and are emotionally invested. But in the end, our opinions mean nothing since there is no responsibility associated with an opinion.

What I am glad about is that once again we see what a real GM does. He does not care about emotions or any of those things. He’s going to do his job and make the hard decisions. We’ve lived too much of our lives with GMs and an owner that far too often picked those extreme sides of these things. Give this player a contract because he really liked him. Telling this other player he can buy a big screen TV and watch the games. No tough decisions were made, just emotional ones that fluffed the owners ego. It’s good to have competent management in charge. Even if we don’t agree with all their decisions or frankly even if not all of them work out. We should at least be confident that this front office knows what it is doing.

wait for the actual numbers. my bet is that the aav isn't really reflective of reality.
 
I have a hard time believing that AP just randomly woke up this morning and said "Welp, he totally called my bluff. Time to give him whatever he wants."

I'm sure there were concessions made on both sides, but at the end of the day, Terry still had basically zero leverage unless he was willing to sit out the entire season. So while it may seem like he got what he wanted, I'll wait until the full details come out before making any proclamations about it.
 
Well, it says a deal UP TO $96m, which implies that there’s maybe no guarantee for year 3.
Also, the wording says ‘as part of the deal’ he will receive $30m on signing. So is that part of the potential $96m? Or extra on top?
Is this a contract that’s actually around the $27m a year (maybe decreasing towards year 3) that was in line with what the team wants, where the signing bonus gives the Terry/Buddy camp the ability to save face and claim a deal worth $32m per year?
 
McLaurin was paid a top 5 contract 3 years ago.

Some of these folks covering the teams really don't seem to have a great memory to process events and judge them in the light of recent NFL history and other contributing factors.

They get the years certain players drafted wrong, or what round they were drafted in, what the comps at his position are, etc.

Just don't seem to be students of the game.

And the fact these folks make their LIVING off covering the team only makes it that much worse at times.

I recall listening to WFAN during the afternoon rush several years ago and they were talking about great receivers in Redskins history.

Everything was fine until they started talking about how Beathard was smart to draft Gary Clark and Ricky Sanders..........................!!!!!!

Really? You mean you never heard of the USFL or the way in which Doug Williams and these receivers joined the team?

Read a paperback on the history of the team before taking a professional job.

We know what was loudly reported about Terry’s demands, and they weren’t flattering to him ($33-34M+ AAV), yet nobody from his camp ever corrected anybody even though they were taking to the media openly, constantly. If they were asking for less than that, they would have said so to make the team look like the unreasonable group.

So Terry’s initial demands seem correctly reported, as far as we’d ever have the capacity to know.

Keim and others who are the most plugged in consistently reported we didn’t want to go over $28M, but could possibly get closer to $30M to get a deal done. Keim is never wrong and doesn’t report guesses.

So once the full details of the contract are out it seems like it’ll be pretty easy to ascertain how it went. We don’t have enough information yet, all we have is a signing bonus which is an unknown percentage of the total guaranteed money.
