The All Things Terry Thread

Come on, this Buddy theory is some good competing head canon. Don't challenge me, that's when I can't stop... haha.

I like the Dan Snyder story, for sure, but the "he should be fired" part is great for Buddy. He's cornered and this is his best play, in his mind. His best strategy right now is calling/emailing podcasts as "skinsfan" and trying to build up a "Fire Adam" movement. That's his play.

It's classic Buddy!
You can have your head cannon. And yours is absolutely more plausible.

But I have mine and you can't change it damnit!

I understand we are taking a little diversion in the thread with some humor. But since there is no actual new Terry news to talk about, I don't feel particularly bad about creating this silly derailment, but it probably needs to end soonish before it irritates people.

:)

lol . . . It would help if we had and actual QB throwing passes to him in the preseason . . . lol . . . the only healthy QB we have played 1 series and didn't throw a pass . . . Mariota is/was injured and neither Hartman nor Johnson could throw at all, especially against the Bengal's. IMO we need to pluck someone else's cuts for a better 3rd string qb.

I'm holding out hope that Luke will be our secret weapon that we will unleash on the NFL in week 1.

I also see that we're still pouring salt into our wounds with some Vinny and Bruce talk now. Weee!

Same here regarding Luke. I saw him play here S.A. when he was with Rice against UTSA, and I remember only hearing his name called once all game lol. Hoping he does get rid of that potential Bust label lingering over his head, and break out!

If TM is still not willing to deal with AP then let's get a trade done with a WR needy team.

There's literally no way that happens unless a team is stupid enough to both give us a really good pick/player AND sign Terry to a deal which the whole league has basically said he doesn't deserve, based on reporting from Keim and Rosisini.

Thus, this is why I said "If". I'm on APs side of the $$$ that TM wants and what AP wants to pay.

I just don't think "if" is a possibilty. I don't think he's tradable with the contract demands he is making.

It's another thing which is lowering his leverage position.

He may not be tradable. I hope a team bites and gives him the money and we get compensated decently. One can hope. AP and this FO is good at keeping their lips sealed. TM may have to come back to play on his current deal. If so, I don't see him being on the team after 2026. JMO. Sure, he wants a long-term deal but every knows age is the issue. There has been much said by local and national NFL reporters. In the end with the way he's handled the situation it best behoove TM to play out his deal and go into FA looking for big $$$.

My 11 year old daughter's favorite phrase in the world is "It's not fair!" She thinks her little brother gets everything and she gets nothing. (She's wrong, but that's a different story.)

I just tell her "life's not fair and then you die." Which might not earn me dad of the year votes, but it's the truth.

From a purely business perspective, a few months ago we were looking to cut significant cost out of our business, and were approaching our vendors about reducing their fees to us, and we had some reasons for doing so.

One particular vendor, for our financial system and some other products, we really wanted to save a chunk of money. However, we have a contract with them, and we can't very well change financial systems, so we kindof have to pay them.

Before the conversation with them, I sat down with our CFO and procurement team, and we openly discussed that we had just about no leverage whatso ever. The leverage we did have is we are a large customer and generally speaking, you want to keep your customers happy. But that was it. They had the contract and we had to renew the licenses because a multi-billion dollar company can't switch financial systems in 3 weeks. So we had to pay them, they knew it, they had the contract, and that was that.

So our understanding of our position altered how we approached the conversation. We made the ask, they countered with something which was somewhat reasonable, though not what we ideally wanted, and we agreed and moved on. Could we have tried to negotiate for more? Maybe. Would it have worked? Probably not.

The key part of that negotiation was us understanding our position. If he had overplayed our hand, everything we did would have been a complete bluff, and they could have called us on it.

I think that self awareness from Terry's camp is missing here. There's no reason you can't negotiate from a position of weakness, sometimes you have no choice. But if you don't recognize your negotiating position, you're going to be in trouble.
So, this was from a few days ago, and I just stumbled into another negotiation at work which made me think of the same thing. And there are some parallels.

The situation is we have a piece of software which had a 3 year contract, and it's up, so we need to renew. The vendor came to us and said the following things:

1. They wanted to increase our rates by 12.5%.
2. We are grandfathered into a plan, so if we change the plan in any way (remove features, reduce users, anything to reduce cost), it ends the grandfathering, and we have to move to one of their new pricing models.
3. They want us to move to a new platform which would be a 30% year over year increase
4. They didn't provide us pricing for removing some options we don't need but staying "a la carte"

Here's the problem: we have no leverage. We have to renew in the next few months. We have to renew. We can't move away from them fast enough.

Step 1 is to recognize your negotiating position.

Step 2 is to find ANY way to gain a little bit of leverage.

The only leverage we had was to request a quote for 1 year. They want us to lock in for 3 years. Why ask for 1 year? Because, and when I asked for a 1 year comparison, the sales person picked up on it immediately, because then we can look for options the following year. Yeah, we have to pay you for one year, but you might lose us as a client in the long term.

The sales person, because she is good at her job, recognized this play immediately. And asked to confirm why I was asking for the 1 year term. And I politely but directly told her that if we were forced to pay more than we are comfortable with, we can lock in for one year and explore other options.

How does this relate to the Terry situation? Well, once again, we are Terry in that we have very, very little leverage. We knew we couldn't make demands, as we have to renew the licensing. They control the cost and the pricing, and there is squat all we can do about that.

Are we going to get the price we want? No. Did we use the little leverage we had to push them in the direction we want them to go? Yes.

What's going to happen? Dunno yet. But our option is to play out the year and address again next year. Same as Terry. If he doesn't get the deal he wants this year, he can play out the year (and get paid ~$18m) and then address again next year when, as long as he has a good season, the worst case scenario is he gets a franchise tag value of $28m fully guaranteed.

I honestly don't care what the outcome is at this point. Just have an outcome.

1. Play on current deal
2. Sign extension
3. Get traded (not going to happen, but while it's a possibility I'll list it)
4. Declare he won't play so we can send him home to pout.

I don't care. Just do something. Whatever. It's time to pick an option and be done with it.

If there was a clear cut resolution one way or another the team could actually act today. Whether it means planning for TM in the lineup, reshuffeling current players to absorb TMs role, signing someone who may come available and or have a vision of what to do down the line. At this point in time the team is treading water and it's hurting the team.

The team needs to tell Terry he has two options, honor his contract or they will put him on this
Section 3. Nonfootball Injury
(a)
A player who is placed on a Nonfootball Injury or Illness list (“N-F/I”) will not be entitled to any compensation under his contract while on such list but, except as provided below, his contract will continue to run while in such status.
(b)
A player on N-F/I who is in the final year of his contract (including an option year) will have his contract tolled. However, if the player is physically able to perform his football services on or before the sixth regular season game, the Club must pay the player his negotiated Paragraph 5 Salary (pro rata) for the balance of the season in order to toll such player’s contract. If such player is taken off N-F/I during the period when such action is allowed by League rules, his contract will not be tolle

He doesn’t have a non football injury. That would be protested by the NFLPA and they would win.
