The All Things Terry Thread

As for Terry. Even Hendrickson traveled to the preseason game.

Terry IMO is acting like a spolied selfish brat. I got no doubt he will still be a good teammate when he plays. But the way he's acted through this is he's far from a selfless player. I think he'd play in the Canadian league, for a bottom rung team over this or any team if they paid him even slightly more than whatever offer he has on the table.

But yeah Orlvosky among others getting on their high horse about how basically if the player is good you give them anything they ask for -- and its the GMs he mocks for not agreeing with his kindergarten approach to negotiations. :p

Then in the next sentence they clown on Jerry Jones because he always ends up overpaying his players in the end.

ESPN is just a bunch of babbling idiots.

I watched the Russini video. Basically judging on that Terry's camp (agents) approach is regardless of how you feel about age, etc, you need him, so that's the bottom line.

Feels a bit like mild version of blackmail to me. Hey maybe you don't feel the figure represents my worth -- but you don't have another big time Wr on your roster so you are stuck paying me what I want anyway.

Terry signing an extension in Washington the first time around should have been a clue to us all about what his primary motivator is. Given the state of the franchise at the time of his first extension, outside of the overpay, there was absolutely nothing that could have possibly motivated him to want to hang on to the dumpster fire of an organization that we were. If he was truly into winning, he would have run for the hills. It is a shame that he is pulling this stunt when we are entering a window of opportunity that arguably will give him the best chance of his career to win a title, but again, money is what motivates him most, not championships. I am not so sure at this juncture that this type of mindset is even of benefit to have in our locker room.

Yes, that is exactly what I was saying.

There is a severe lack of supply of McLaurin's talent. Let's be clear, too - most here understand McLaurin's talent level to be high - he is not an easy guy to replace in the best of times. However, this idea that the team should overpay Terry because of the timing, situation (JD on rookie contract, championship window), and then throwing in some other aspects (hold-in, public complaints with contract details, complaining about past regimes)... it just falls flat for me. When you look at the full picture of what's happening, I just feel like even if you think teams tend to blink in these negotiations going into the season, I just think it's been handled so poorly by Terry's camp. I also think the Math is kind of hard for Terry's camp.

They would risk 800-900k per game missed. Reports in general concur that AP is offering 25m minimum. Terry's camp wants 33m, but let's assume that is a negotiation point and would settle for 30m. That's 5m / year difference. If he took the 25m, these games would be worth *Even more* so he is throwing that money away as well, not just 8-900k which is his game check based on his current contract. It's not going to take long for those checks to be eating into a significant chunk of that difference. So not playing is just stupid at that point.

We can spread the numbers out more, do the Math, but it's not hard Math. Come on, Terry's camp, figure it out already.

Makes me wonder how AP would have approached things this past off season (free agency, draft) knowing now how this has transpired. Organization has gone out of its way to not take shots at TM to include the silly PUP designation. I get pushing for what you can but its obvious what his worth is at this point, him still clinging to his original ask is arrogant. Next year Washington will either sign a #1 in free agency or draft a WR1, TM is burning bridges (though obviously no one associated with the team will come out and say it) and hurting the team and himself at this point.

I feel the same way. I cringe everytime I keep hearing well Terry is such a great guy and great teammate.

Again, i am not looking for him to sacrifice like some players do (granted not a ton) and take reasonable deals and say they did so because they really really want to stay with their team and or win a championship.

Clearly, Terry doesn't roll like that. But Terry comes off like the opposite extreme. How can he leverage his situation to get an overpay. He clearly doesn't give a rats behind about a championship.

And even if I stuck to the agent leaks alone. My takaways from that.

A. He'd play for the highest bidder regardless of the team.

B. The pay is about basically matching Terry's ego. Terry's ego tells him he's a top 3 WR or something like that. It's hurtful that the team doesn't see him the way Terry sees himself.

Running with Terry's side logic -- it comes off egotistical, selfish and mercenary IMO.

Following Premier League soccer, you have some star players who are constantly pursued by rich Saudi Arabian teams who try to lure players by gross overpays. Most players turn that down because they want to play in meaningful European competitive games. lol, Terry would be one of the exceptions if he played European soccer, he'd be In Saudi Arabia in no time.

I just don't see Terry as a "culture guy" anymore. When he puts his needs in that over the top way over the team - and showcases why ego and money is more important than the team -- it puts me off. Granted lol i am not the guy who determines who the culture guys are. I in the past saw Terry as a culture guy but no longer.

So if it were me and i was Peters if I knew Terry would act this way, I would have traded him this off season.

Absolutely! He lost the "culture guy" tag and has actually moved to the opposite side of the spectrum, especially by not bothering to be on the sidelines last night. And yes it does come across as a spoiled kid

Hindsight being 20/20 I agree he would have traded him. AP giving Terry a long term deal at this point seems unrealistic. Business should never be personal but I cant help but think that AP and crew must be pretty frustrated, coaches too. Watching Hendrickson on Cincinnati's sideline last night gave the opposite feelings of TM's situation. Hendrickson is truly top 3 in his position and is vastly underpaid. He came out and said Cincinnati is where he wants to play and loves the city and the organization. He traveled to support his team mates, TM couldn't travel across town. If TM showed up last night, signed autographs, kissed a few babies, the crowd would have been cheering him loudly. I still think something gets done but the amount of valuable time being wasted is ridiculous.

Agree. And from what I've heard about Henrickson's contract stalemate i get his frustration, apparently Cincy is only willing to give him one year of guarantees in their offer.

And as you said he truly is elite. And pass rushers age better than Wrs.

To use a pass rusher analogy, it would be something like Brian Burns demanding top 3 Edge money -- and if the team didn't give it to him, he's hurt that they don't see him as being as good as Trey, Parsons, Garrett, etc. Because that's how highly Burns sees himself. Then Burns also goes well I've been a good soldier so kick in more for that.

For me, either play on your current deal, or sitout without a check, enough trying to negotiate with him. If several teams took this attitude with their holdouts, players would think twice.

Yeah, F**K ESPN, that network has been shit for a while now. Who wants to listen to opinions from an ex NFL qb who ran out of bounds in his own end zone resulting in a safety?!😂😂

Money is what motivates his agents most, not watching Terry winning a championship.

We can only speculate what motivates TMC.

I think Terry is getting taking bad terrible advice and if its a friend or his wife, they have put him in a real awkward spot at this point.

I highly doubt this is a ploy to miss training camp, but I am sure some vets have used every tactic in the book to avoid running around in the hot sun for 6 weeks.

To me that totally gives the FO moral permission to end talks and make him play out his contract, franchise him, and treat him like an employee whose contract they control for 2-3 years. They always had that right, but they’ve tried to be compassionate and make something work anyways. If the Terry camp is that delusional and mercenary then the guy just has to clock in for the next two years and wonder where he’ll be at 32-33, I guess. He’s really shot himself in the foot and he’ll make less overall money because of it

Danny Rouhier going off on Terry right now on 106.7 about how he can't believe how selfish and bratty he is behaving.

His point (and I agree) he's being among other things an obstacle to the team.

Fun to listen to because like me Danny was totally in the past drinking the Terry Kool Aide. But he's done with his behavior as I am.

At what point do we find out if he's actually ramping up for the season? Tomorrow is his first "practice day" after coming off the PUP right?
