If you saw the interview, Salters tried to bait Daniels by asking how frustrating it is to not have McLaurin. Jayden didn’t take the bait and gave the quote referenced in that tweet. Jayden is wise beyond his years.

The whole interview was awesome and brought the vibes rushing back. I wonder if at the end of the day, Jayden checks Terry in the most Jayden way possible and we get this thing rolling again.

No other team will give Terry what he wants, so it’s redundant, IMO. I do want him on the team though.
 
People were wrong last week when they said last week's performance helped Terry.

And they will be wrong this week when they say this week's performance hurt Terry.

Nothing that happens will help or hurt Terry.

The leverage is what the leverage is, and it's contractual.

He's got to get his butt in camp and start practicing. Or even when he starts playing, he's going to be option number 4 on the offense behind Deebo, Ertz and the running game. And then he's absolutely not going to get the type of money he wants next year.

Deebo if healthy WILL take Terry's job if Terry isn't 100% ready to go. And by that I don't mean positionally, but the designed targets which would go to Terry will start tilting towards Deebo.

Overpays happen in a dearth of similar supply.
That may be banked on if he waits into the season. Gamble on a 900k check to make 5m more a season over 2 seasons maybe? Depends on your confidence in that gamble.
 
Gamblers only share their wins and bitch about their ‘bad beats’. Terry, if that is his gamble, is staring down the barrel of a major league bad beat. AP is sitting back quietly while holding pocket aces.
 
Terry is not going to get his initial request because it is unreasonable.
It is very doubtful he is moved from Washington
So he will either play on his old contract or on a new one for (more than likely) much less than he and his agent (roll eyes) feel he deserves.
I hope there are not times when fans question if he is giving 100%. This certainly has never entered the picture in the past.


Oh, and it was disappointing that Terry was a no show at the game last night. That feel was kind of rubbed in by all of the shots of Hendrickson on the Bengals sidelines

I agree that is how it looks right now in general. However, this offense with its receiving talent level - the OL has a chance to be very good, but it's also very early.

A lot of regimes in the last few years, including the 9ers, they blinked in this scenario when the season started poorly - often with a young QB or a QB on an expiring contract. I could see that logic being spoonfed by a greedy agent. I just wonder how AP and ownership would respond to a couple of early losses where it honestly does look like Terry's skillset is missed (I could see that happening, but as with all early season games, it's so unclear).

My issue, if I'm AP, is I look at the full situation beyond the above:
1) Other contracts, other holdouts
2) to me, most importantly: the potential to pay and then have him go down with injury due to poor preparation and conditioning. I am sure they have the numbers but I feel like this may be the highest likelihood with the McLaurin type of player than almost any other.

So, I get that AP and the team don't want to shut off negotiations and seem unreasonable, that's important. I just really dislike the idea of caving in the regular season. Even if you are losing games, I would tend not to pay him and would possibly start dropping the original offer. Not sure I would take an upgrade off of the table, but I would make it clear your value to the team is diminishing. I don't have time to put a lot of thought into it though, and I am sure AP has analyzed so many more sides to this.
 
I hope Terry fires his agents. He must feel like a damned fool more and more every day.

The hail mary panic trade request shows their incompetence. And the agents desperation to get paid.

I wish we would have inked Keenan Allen. I fear its becoming clear we cannot count on Luke to be a full time player this year. Noah, oft injured.

The WR corpse depth chart is pathetic and is the only thing working in TMCs favor. But great QBs dont need prima donna pay ME WR1s to be successful.

I don't know if this was brought up, but Terry wasn't at the game last night. That's a bad look. I heard this on Galdi. Three players were not at the game:

- Cosmi: That makes some sense, there is no particular reason for him to be on the sidelines while recovering from injury.
- Brian Robinson: He's about to be cut or traded, so that makes total sense.
- Terry McLaurin: Galdi said it was an "excused absence."

Also from Terry, Trey Henrickson is also "holding in" for the Bengals. He traveled with the team and was at the game.

This is just another bad look for Terry.

Exactly.

When you are angling for a bigger contract, and you are trying to say you are a team leader - I'm sorry to say, but Hendrickson is walking the walk. Terry is not.

I am not going to sit in judgement of his character; negotiations can get acrimonious, emotions can take you places. However, without emotion, I can say he's not walking the walk and that's a bad strategy for himself and for the team. As I mentioned before, I would eat some Ls rather than pay him. The leverage is on the team's side as long as they have the stomach. That is the gamble; does this team have the stomach? I can understand why an agent may believe "no" because there have been notable "team blinked first" cases, including with the 9ers I think with Aiyuk? That is my recollection.

I hope McLaurin was watching that game last night. Peters is putting together a roster of playmakers with Daniels, Samuel, Bill, etc., that will only get better over time with future additions. There were some great blocks being generated upfront to create some massive gains on the ground, and we were without three key starters on the OL. I am not reading too much into the preseason, but if that was a glimpse of what our run game can become and we add another dimension on the ground over and above Daniels that other DCs have to game plan for, it might not matter who Jayden has to throw to - guys will be open simply because opposing defences will have too much to account for. Jayden stirs the drink in DC, not Terry. He better hop aboard the train because it is going to keep rolling whether he is along for the ride or not.

Me, too. The talking heads (Orlvosky again on this) act like negotiations are a one way street. The player simply decides their value and the team just simply has to pay it. If that's how the NFL worked, we'd already be at $100 million a year for QBs.

The thing that gets me the most is guys like Orlovsky act like they are the smart ones and the FO's are the dummies. Sure, Orlovsky, lets see you take on a GM job where you just bend to the whims of every player on your team, whatever figure they give you they want you give them that -- you'd be laughted out of the league and make even people like Ron in comparison look like a stud GM.

But yeah Orlvosky among others getting on their high horse about how basically if the player is good you give them anything they ask for -- and its the GMs he mocks for not agreeing with his kindergarten approach to negotiations. :p
