The All Things Terry Thread

Your guy has spoken

And what brilliance and remarkable commentary he dropped on us.

It’s ironic. If he was less of a loser dumbass head coach he could have coached Terry for more than 5 games.

Sounds like this is all on Terry then. If true, sad way to ruin his legacy here.

That’s not what I took from that tweet. If AP is only offering $25mm per and not budging, that’s definitely not gonna get it done. And it sounds like Terry is currently asking for something below $32.5mm given Terry’s “friend” (if that’s truly what he is) is saying AP has to increase it to $32.5mm “at this point” because of the disrespect.

If those are the true numbers, $28-29mm should get this done if both sides are willing to budge.

I read that as "Terry knows his value". He wont accept anything less than 32.5.

Hmm, yeah, I guess I could see that too.
Not saying Im right. Just how I understood that. You are very likely more correct than me.

Either way, this whole thing has pushed me farther in the direction of AP and the FO rather than Terry and his camp.

Called it earlier, trade Terry for Hendrickson and sign Amari Cooper for peanuts.

I'm much more inclined to pay a 30 yr old DE over a 30 yr old WR

Not real concerned at this point. Plenty of players have requested a trade only to re-sign. I do think it's likely this 'leak' came from the agent and I'm not sure it's the leverage they think it is.

I'm fine with how this is going.

If we really standing our ground on this I feel more comfortable with how it plays out.

He can ask around for who will pay him what he wants and come back to say no one...that should move this along.

I can see a back to back franchise tag...and at least one ring in the middle of it.

If the $25M per is true, I guess I can see where that’s seen as disrespectful. I understand the team has the leverage and that may be the # because of that, but can see where that would be tough to swallow.
like most negotiations, i'm of the belief that this is the team's going in position and not what they think they'll actually end up paying him. it's low-ball but, minus the DK deal, it's within range with other contracts of receivers in terry's tier. I am inclined to think that Terry really is asking for 35+ million and not willing to wiggle much. that's the only reason I can think why AP is not actively trying to find a middle ground. if the gap is really 10+ million between what they are offering and what Terry is asking for, middle ground may be hard to find. 29 to 30 million with upfront bonus to frontload the contract should be doable. smdh.

I agree. 25 would be a starting position. Sutton’s contract says that’s a very reasonable start. Maybe even generous. You start at 25 to end up at 28 although guarantees are another important aspect.

I just have a really hard time believing the team is being unreasonable. Peters knows what he’s worth and that includes the bonus consideration for what the specific player has been through and means for the franchise.

Someone is being incredibly unreasonable and I really doubt it’s Washington.

I understand it's business, but I think from a fan point of view and maybe even a player point of view something changes the moment you say, "Trade me!"

Trust is lost. The player is no longer one of us anymore. At least not to the same degree. The Commanders have been talking about building a brotherhood and the players have (in their quotes and actions on and off the field) seemingly bought in. Now, the question awaits as to how this trade request impacts how players view the front office. With the exception of Sam Cosmi, Peters hasn't re-signed anyone to a large contract. So, the ripple effect of this could hurt both Terry's reputation with the team and team's faith that Peters will reward them.

Still, there's a reason why you resist using the nuclear option. It generally signals something that you can't take back and something that even if it works out leaves a lot of damage in its wake.
