I just returned from the Philippines. We didn't really go to any resorts or do much exploring because my wife just wanted to spend time with her family. We were there for 5 weeks though so we did get on a friend's boat and go island hopping for a couple days.
The seafood was just as good as I remember it and it's amazing to be able to feed 12 people in a seafood restaurant, + buckets of beer and wine too, for about 120 dollars total. So we ate out a lot. I was also able to get a burger occasionally and it's funny how a Burger King Whopper combo there is still only 4 dollars even though they have to ship it halfway around the planet. 2 large Pizza Hut Pizzas are a whopping 10 bucks as well so my son kept ordering pizza lol.
It's so hot there but everyone has ac now and we spent lots of time driving in the AC in our car up and down the island and ferrys to other islands so in a month I drove over 2000 miles, mostly at 20-40Mph in crazy traffic. I'm talking hundreds of motorcycles, chickens, dogs, anything goes. It had been a long time but it's really like riding a bike. I never crashed.
I'll never fly on Philappines airlines again though. They make it absolutely the worst experience for someone who has to ride on a mobility scooter. They made me check in my scooter that folds up as small as a carry on despite no other airline doing that. Also they want to weigh everything you carry and if its like .1 kilogram over they make you get another bag. We were lucky because I had a backpack in my suitcase that I put a couple things in which is hilarious because now they are just having to deal with another bag. In previous visits they made me go buy a second suitcase so screw that shit, never again.
Also, the Manila airport is a complete joke, they run you through the scanner over and over all around the airport. We had to take off our shoes, empty our bags of laptops and electronics 6 times just trying to connect between Iloilo and Seattle. I just about lost my mind several times but my wife kept telling me that there is nothing we can do. Well that's not true but I didn't want to end up in a Manila Prison, lol.
Now I just have to get used to sleeping 12 hours out of what I'm used to and I already woke up at 2AM haha.
