The Travel Thread

Yeah, I don’t like people nearly enough to be trapped on a ship with thousands of them.
As I get older and feel the same way, we do more riverboat cruises now than the larger 2k+ type ships.

Kids not allowed on the Vikings ships.

So many letters…

As an example…this is the street that we live on-

Kylänvanhimmankuja

So many letters.

Im confused. Are we talking about ur location or are we talking about soccer women on coke bottles?
Being that this is a travel thread…

I’d save any soccer women for that one. 😉 That’s if I knew about any soccer women. 🙂

Never mind then. When I searched Katariina and coke it took me to Katariina Kosola soccer player. I saw it as an opening to plug Alisha Lehman.

Not to go completely off-topic, but there is a great video of Alisha getting fouled (repeatedly, the Swedes clearly had a plan to rough her up a bit), and in retaliation, kicking the ball at one of the Sweedish player's heads. It's pretty brilliant. I'm not going to post it because we're already off topic, but google alisha lehmann kick revenge and it will pop up.

Looking at Tel Aviv for the holidays...

Sedona AZ this September, with an overnight stay at the Grand Canyon. We spent a week in Sedona, about 10 years ago, and had a blast...great hiking and beautiful scenery. We swore that we would return and do a few things that we missed the first time around, including visiting the Grand Canyon for more than a day. We booked a hotel at the Canyon for a single night along with a sunset tour a mule ride the following day. Can't wait!

I'm going to be in the Dominican for a month for the holidays. It was too expensive to go to Tel Aviv during this time. I'm going to explore other places of the island as well as look at houses

Heading off to Africa for my first-ever safari this Wednesday.

This has been on my bucket list since I was a kid.

I hope to have a few pictures to share for anyone else interested.
I hope you have a great time!

My only experience in Africa has been all around the north side and part of the East, for the military. So it really wasn't a whole lot of fun. Unless you like combat in Somalia, Libya or other shit holes

My first ship in the Navy went to Kenya. We were there for about an entire month. It was a lot of fun being on the beach there in Mombasa, hanging out with Camels and going to the resorts there where all the British hung out, safari up Mt. kilamanjaro was cool too, until our bus was attacked by a lion who tried to tip it over while our drunk bus driver ran into the bushes to drain the weasel.

I just returned from the Philippines. We didn't really go to any resorts or do much exploring because my wife just wanted to spend time with her family. We were there for 5 weeks though so we did get on a friend's boat and go island hopping for a couple days.

The seafood was just as good as I remember it and it's amazing to be able to feed 12 people in a seafood restaurant, + buckets of beer and wine too, for about 120 dollars total. So we ate out a lot. I was also able to get a burger occasionally and it's funny how a Burger King Whopper combo there is still only 4 dollars even though they have to ship it halfway around the planet. 2 large Pizza Hut Pizzas are a whopping 10 bucks as well so my son kept ordering pizza lol.

It's so hot there but everyone has ac now and we spent lots of time driving in the AC in our car up and down the island and ferrys to other islands so in a month I drove over 2000 miles, mostly at 20-40Mph in crazy traffic. I'm talking hundreds of motorcycles, chickens, dogs, anything goes. It had been a long time but it's really like riding a bike. I never crashed.

I'll never fly on Philappines airlines again though. They make it absolutely the worst experience for someone who has to ride on a mobility scooter. They made me check in my scooter that folds up as small as a carry on despite no other airline doing that. Also they want to weigh everything you carry and if its like .1 kilogram over they make you get another bag. We were lucky because I had a backpack in my suitcase that I put a couple things in which is hilarious because now they are just having to deal with another bag. In previous visits they made me go buy a second suitcase so screw that shit, never again.

Also, the Manila airport is a complete joke, they run you through the scanner over and over all around the airport. We had to take off our shoes, empty our bags of laptops and electronics 6 times just trying to connect between Iloilo and Seattle. I just about lost my mind several times but my wife kept telling me that there is nothing we can do. Well that's not true but I didn't want to end up in a Manila Prison, lol.

Now I just have to get used to sleeping 12 hours out of what I'm used to and I already woke up at 2AM haha.

Came back from Portugal a little over a week ago.

I rode the funicular in Lisbon that goes up to Barrio Alta:

This is the same funicular that crashed a week later and killed 15 people:

At Least 15 Dead After Lisbon Funicular Derails and Crashes, Officials Say

At least 15 people were killed and 18 others were injured, five of them critically, on Wednesday evening, when a popular funicular in Lisbon derailed and crashed, according to Portugal’s health ministry.

I can't imagine how you feel. Thank God you were not in the group that was killed, and so sad for those folks.

I have had 2 or 3 instances in the last decade where, but for a split second or two, my life would have been snuffed out in an instant. Those kinds of moments certainly get one's attention and are a shocking reminder to us of what is important in our lives, and what is not, and how fleeting and fragile our worlds can be.

Glad you are okay and glad you are here brother :love-heart:

Nice! Any chance you'll be there today?? Quick meet up? LOL. I'll be the bald, bearded, beautiful beige brother in the JD5 shirt

Sucks about the north rim 😕
Nope!
We did some hiking today at Red Rock State park. We won't be at GC until Monday.
