I'll start with I doubt they are a mile off of 30 plus. Terry is already at 23 million a year with his current contract. So at a minimum it will be a bump from that.

I am sticking with my guess that they (the team) wants to end up at 30 and in turn are offering something less than that -- so it can be negotiated up. So lets say 27-28.

Rapopport reported that Terry wants north of 30. So lets say its 34. So lets say 27 to 34 is a big gap. But the compromise is at 30.

Who knows maybe i'll end up dead wrong but that's my best guess reading some tea leaves.

My opinion doesn't really matter on this, but I've always been OK with a 30M AAV as long as the term is shorter, or there are easy outs along the way.
 
The team is probably looking at Higgins, and Adams, and Godwin deals.

Terry is looking at Chase, Jefferson, and Lamb deals, all of which are better and 3-4 years younger than he is, and going off in Fantasyland.

Hell, even Tee Higgins is 26 and got 28 a year and only 30M guaranteed.

I'd kind of agree with him if the cap can't be rolled over but the thing is, we can save that money to make it easier to get Daniels signed later and still have some money. By that time McLaurin is going to be 32 and probably a 500-700yard #2 or 3.

I dont. Great franchises trade Terry's all day long for draft capital. 30 year old receivers are not the base of your franchise. JD is. And he will make average receivers look good. Look at Dyami Brown ffs. Terry is better than Brown. But is he 30 mill per year better? And you have to remember we control his rights for 2 years. When he will be 32 and heading into nothingness. It's a cutthroat game. But Terry signed his last contract. No one else did. And forgive me for not crying about a guy making over a million dollars a week to catch a football this year while wanting a million and half per week instead.

I think the board is tilting too far against Terry. I suspect it is a self-protective thing. Terry is a very good receiver, a number one receiver, and arguably top ten in the league. If he held out or forced a trade, the team's prospects would suffer a lot. I don't really see this happening. He still has a year on a contract that pays him handsomely and he and the team do want to get this done.

But seriously, Terry isn't a dime a dozen piece of replacable trash. I doubt he will be a dime a dozen replacable piece of trash in two years.
 
Depends what metrics you're looking at. He was second in touchdowns, a second team All Pro player, and a first team Probowler last year. Sounds pretty damn top ten to me.

TD's were the ONLY stat he was top ten though. Look at the rest of them. He ranked 31st in big plays. 19th in receptions, 15th in yards, 27th in yards per game....etc etc. He is a great receiver. He is not an elite franchise defining receiver.

TD’s aren’t a sticky stat year to year for the vast majority of players, instead they tend to scale with quality of targets (and with raw quantity of targets, but less so). He’s a very good player, but finally popping in the TD category with Jayden throwing the ball doesn’t make him ELITE. It’s an extremely stacked (and young) position in this league. I love Terry but I could name more than ten WR’s I’d take over him easily, in a vacuum.

We don’t exist in a vacuum which is why I hope they’re able to negotiate a contract and keep him around.
 
I'm okay with that definition. Recent posts have been describing as an easy to replace player. Great players, even if they're not elite, franchise changing players are hard to replace. Terry isn't Chase or Jefferson, but I'd put him in the tier right below that. I think I'd put Justin, Chase, Cee Dee, and AJ Brown ahead of him. Honestly, after that I think you can make an argument for Terry. Keep in mind that Terry's numbers were artifically depressed by several factors: the o line forced Daniels to bail out and run a lot, they also forced him to dump off more than he wanted, and in the early part of the season for whatever reason Daniels simply wasn't looking for him.

But honestly, these are quibbles. If you had said Terry wasn't elite but was very good I would have been okay with that, too.
 
I think you have to look at his body of work. He is rarely a top 10 player in a single season, but I bet he is a top ten player over the past five seasons. That consistency counts for something.

If we were to dig into the surrounding factors for all of those players, the conversation would be different. You can’t only consider those things for Terry, he’s not the unluckiest WR1 in the league or something. Those guys are just better and more productive (some of them a LOT more productive) and that’s okay. He’s a great player—I do hope to draft Daniels a superstar weapon someday soon, though.
 
The ESPN coaches, execs, scouts poll has Terry at 11. That seems reasonable to me. Terry may see himself higher... fair... you want a guy with self confidence... but that's where the league sees him.
 
What do the wide receivers look like in the draft this year? Strong year? Who are the early stand outs?

It would show the rest of the team that if you act stubborn, unreasonable and throw a fit the team will reward you even if it’s against their interests.
