(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

How do you feel about the Commanders Brand 2.0?

  • Vastly improved, if this is THE brand moving forward I’m satisfied.

  • I like the direction, but I still feel more to do. I will/have specified in thread.

  • I don’t like this new direction. I didn’t like the old either. They can’t make this work for me.

1. You’re not describing bold, you’re describing pie in the sky. The old logo is never coming back. Even if you think the criticism about it is incorrect, then the issue is too many people are misinformed about it to accept it again. It’s dead.

2. The team didn’t tease the spear thing, it was basically leaked. We still don’t know what that promo shoot will prove to be about.

I do think it's quite possible that the alt uniform announced today becomes the permanent home uni next season. Maybe the spear references was just a foreshadowing that they were going to try and get back to some of the uniform traditions (vs. a literal signal they would bring back the old spear uniform in some fashion). Also possible I supposed that it might be a future throwback uniform.

I think once I get used to the 'W' and the old style color scheme and stripes, I will like it. Right now it just psychologically clashes in my brain.

I wonder what the black uniforms would look like if you literally took the alternates revealed today and simply used a black background (maybe black jerseys AND black pants). I'm thinking it might look really hot.

I will say, despite whatever is keeping me personally from being 'excited' about the uniform 'Redskinization', I'm excited that the HOG is doing things that MOST fans really like. I feel the same way about it as I did about the possibility they might name the team the 'Redwolves'. I didn't care for the name, but it seemed to be hugely popular as a possible choice, and all I've ever wanted is for the team to pay attention to the fans who have spent decades supporting the team. They seem, at least within the limits of what they can do, to be doing that now. That's a good thing.

Saw this on Reddit. Really is striking. Fashion school project for people who don't even watch football vs. traditional and clean.

On the left, the cheap made in China knockoff you picked up at the Labor Day Flea Market.
On the right, a professional uniform.

I won’t lie I’m one who has been fine with the idea of the black alternates, could take them or leave them—but since this morning I’ve also been wondering what those black uniforms in this “modern retro” style would look like. I agree it probably will look pretty great

So are these replacing the blacks as the alternate? Or can we have both? Sorry if this has been discussed already, fast moving thread!

I will say one of the things that has made this day so cool for me is that for many years up until the change we were made to feel guilty for rooting for our team. For wearing it’s uniform.

The people that wanted the name changed, wanted it all to go, the colors, the history, everything. Like in addition to the controversial name we had, the uniforms themselves were a problem, and that attitude seemed to be qualified when they did a complete 180 not only on the name and the logo, but the uniforms themselves in 2022.

For me, today feels like somewhat of a vindication in that NO the uniforms were not “racist” , the colors were not “racist”…they were just uniforms and colors. To most people they meant nothing, but to our family they meant something else entirely.

I feel like today is a step towards healing a family. I get not everybody feels as strongly about it as I do, but at least for three games this year… I will look out on the field and see a team that largely looks just like the team that I rooted for growing up and make that connection. My team, our team, with a different name but still OUR team. Part of me hasn’t felt that in years.

I’d be surprised if they were outright replaced because the black jersey does sell and it is liked by the younger crowd. When these new alternative uniforms become the Home uniform in 2026 (fingers crossed) maybe the new alternate becomes a variation on the black we already have. The new away becomes the burgundy jersey with the white pants/burgundy pants/gold pants just like it was in the old days.

I read that, and I think...

...it's time to take that as somewhat of a challenge. Speak with our wallets, because I know I'm not alone in that a LOT of us have sat on the sideline and protested purchasing ANY merch with the C word on it.

Let's break jersey sales records. I, for one, will buy at LEAST 2 jerseys when these go on presale, if not 3-4.

Hail.

You’re

You’re wrong (on the outcome for the fanbase as a whole) but I understand your bitterness about it. They aren’t bleeding fans any longer though, they’re gaining them. And the harsh/morbid truth is that every year which passes sees more of the older generations who care about the old name pass on beyond the concerns of marketing directors and brand ambassadors.
They had lower attendance last year than the year before.
If they dont do as well this year or god forbid miss the playoffs they will have even lower turn out

The w sucks . Going from the best logo in sports to this is disgusting

I don’t think there are many who would agree with you Tom. The franchise is on the upswing and has a bright future in every way measurable. I get the bitterness but it’s time to set it aside and move forward. I haven’t agreed with a lot of what has gone down but at some point you either have to get on board or walk away.

Im on vacation at prince edwards island and so pissed about this that i had to post it.
Either give us the old logo or the spear or just move on scrap it all and abandon the history and colors.
Treat it like the redskins or as a new franchise . This is utter crap .

None of those numbers really matter, longterm. They spent the past year legally extricating themselves from Ticketmaster agreements Snyder made to sell a huge bulk of tickets to 3rd parties who then inflated the prices and sold them (mostly to visiting fans who used to be able to know they’d be going to watch a victory for their team). Harris talked about it a few months ago, and how it was taking time to end those agreements so that our actual fans have a shot at face value tickets.

I’d think we won’t have an accurate read on home attendance (at our still trash soon-to-be-replaced stadium) until this upcoming season, when more tickets belong to actual season ticket holders and Washington fans get first dibs at tickets before 3rd parties can sell them all to visiting fanbases. Plus, coming off an NFC Championship game appearance.

I think your POV on this is askew because you’re so angry about the brand. Understandable and I won’t scorn you for it. But the fanbase is obviously returning and recovering, and it’s only early days for this new ownership group. Attendance in that shit hole stadium is really only a part of it. The vast majority of income from owning the franchise doesn’t come from ticket sales, which is why it took so long for Snyder to be maneuvered into a financially desperate situation despite low cash flow.

Not my place to police your fandom but man, if you’re still feeling rage like this over the branding at this point, when we know we’re stuck with it, I think it may be time to consider that there’s no coming back from the dark place you’ve gotten with the team. We just had the most successful season for the team in a generation, and the vast majority of fans see the silver lining in the uniform reveals today after how bad things got under Snyder.

I’m not saying you have to agree, but you don’t seem like you’re relating to the team in a healthy way at all, and things are better than they’ve been in 30 years. This is supposed to be an escape.

I also wonder what the trend was.

At the start of the season, there was a fair amount of pessimism. Quinn was seen as an uninspired head coaching choice that we sort of got stuck with after Johnson rejected us. We had come off a super crappy season the year before. And most people looking at our team expected them to be bottom feeders because of rookie QB growing pains and pathetic talent across the lines, wide receiver groups, etc. So, I can see low attendence and poor jersey sales at the start of the season. Even by the halfway point a lot of PTSD fans were waiting for the season to fall apart.

That said, when I was at the Bears game that game felt full and LOUD! Now, I hadn't been to a game in six years, but still... the vibe and energy was awesome. And I've never been part of a celebration like the one we had after the Hail Mary. I've never seen that stadium so full of joy and so unified. I bet that as the season went on the stadium became better and better in terms of attendence, volume, and sales.

What if they just added a couple of scalps, maybe one on each shoulder? I'd even be OK with it if they were reproductions. (That way you wouldn't have to keep the jerseys refrigerated)

Sir, I get your anger and hurt. I really do. I honestly felt like a dear family member died the day the announcement came. This franchise is Iiterally part of the fabric of who I am. It has marked the time and fills the cracks, gaps, and edges of memories with people dear to me, the majority of which are gone now that I am in my 50s.

However, it is 2025. The name and logo are not coming back. It is unfair (cough blackhawks, Chiefs, Seminoles cough) but it is where we are. No one cares that the most beautiful logo in sports was made by NA, for NA Pride. Facts matter not in this brave new world.

You feel the way you feel, but many of us with that same deep, fierce love for the Redskins don’t want an expansion level branding. I need branding as close to the Washington Franchise I grew up with that it can feasibly be. My heart will never fully heal. There will always be a scar - but the joy I felt seeing a return to our look, let me know that with the right tweaks and course corrections, I can move on and still love this team and have similar feelings to what I had pre-2020.

I cannot wait to purchase my children these beautiful white jerseys of their favorite players. My son already said he wants one of these white JD5s to go with his burgundy JD5.

And now I want one too.
