(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

How do you feel about the Commanders Brand 2.0?

  • Vastly improved, if this is THE brand moving forward I’m satisfied.

  • I like the direction, but I still feel more to do. I will/have specified in thread.

  • I don’t like this new direction. I didn’t like the old either. They can’t make this work for me.

Put me down as one who thinks a WFT throwback someday would be pretty funny

Quite honestly, I want nothing but to forget that era. For me, never was there a more embarrassing time to be a fan than those two years, or greater evidence of the utter incompetence of the prior owner. No forethought, no plan…nothing…despite the clear evidence the winds were changing.

Without the old logo I dont give a shit about the uniform. They are going to lose even more fans denying the logo.
Even a spear would have been better. That w sucks so bad and all hope of the team having any good feelings from the fans was just pissed away.

The team will continue to lose fans.

You’re wrong (on the outcome for the fanbase as a whole) but I understand your bitterness about it. They aren’t bleeding fans any longer though, they’re gaining them. And the harsh/morbid truth is that every year which passes sees more of the older generations who care about the old name pass on beyond the concerns of marketing directors and brand ambassadors.

It’s pretty hard not to have ‘Redskinization’ with a throwback uniform, no? I suppose they could have used the Football Team. 😈

The whole idea of ‘throwback’ when you’ve changed the team identity feels silly to me. They didn’t even go as far as the spear imagery as some predicted.

It’s fine - most love it. Stripes don’t give me a boner but if it works for others I guess they are lucky :)

I thought for some reason we heard 'Super Bowl Era' uniforms prior to this but maybe i'm wrong?

The spear was never part of any Super Bowls. This also allows it to be a 'throwback' without referencing the previous name, actually having a connection to the past.

I also think they realize the identity didn't need to change... just the name. They still have "Hail" in their current propaganda with the 'Raise Hail' movement. They still have the names in the ring of fame, and have even retired a number referencing someone from the Redskins era.

The identity can still be the same as part of the Washington Football Franchise....

I love the alternates. I understand the team name needed to change but I never wanted the uniforms to. I feel like I have been rooting for an expansion team rather than the one I have been a fan of since 1986.

Hopefully they become the norm. And they are the same team other than in name, and now they will look closer to it.

Let’s face it…many of us are well beyond any of the age categories that are valued by marketing and advertising professionals both now and in the past.

** and consumers **

The new logo / brand is growing, and those investing are getting younger and younger.

I think it's fair to say there as as many great memories, if not more, last year alone than Snyder's entire tenure. There's certainly more hope. Maybe I am just wanting to move forward than rather constantly looking back.

For me, I’m doing both…and sometimes looking at where you were-both good and bad-helps you recognize and appreciate where you are now. I don’t want to divorce the Gibbs years…or the George Allen years…from what’s happening now and in the future. Since we won’t have the name anymore, I’m glad they’re finding all sorts of ways to blend the old with the new, and doing so by leapfrogging over Snyder’s tenure completely lol…

Also—and I may be the only one—but I never think of Snyder. At all. Ever.

I love it.
I love it too. It's as close to the Redskins uniforms that we know and love, and the bottom line (to me, anyway), is that I just want them to win. If I am lucky enough to see them hoist just one more Lombardi Trophy in my lifetime, I will be losing my mind, yelling in the streets...not thinking, "Man, this would be so much better if they were still the Redskins"...

As for the name and the logo? My son is 13. I'm 56. HE is the next wave of fans, who will grow up (hopefully) seeing Super Bowls and parades and MVP awards...and then pass that love on to HIS kids. He likes the name, and he really likes the W (I think it looks fantastic on tees, sweatshirts, etc)...and HE is the future consumer. Not us.

We just need to use the circle R logo but make it a W. The lose the feather and add a spear and go full on Roman Empire Commanders.

100% how I feel. My kids are young enough that winning memories are going to be as the Commanders with a W logo. However, the more we can blend the past - these uniforms eventually completely replacing the current white abominations is a no-brainer - the more it feels like the evolution of the same franchise, not an expansion team. The franchise my grandparents, my parents, and my kids pull for.

The name is never coming back. The most beautiful logo in sports is not coming back. However, JD5 hitting TM in the corner of the end zone in a playoff game while wearing these? That will feel like my team. The team of Slinging Sammy and George Allen.; Of Art Monk and Joe Gibbs; Of RFK and The Squire.; Of the Hogs and the Over the Hill Gang.

My team that I will continue to make memories with my kids with.

My Redskins, now Commanders.

What today does show is that they are willing to go full on retro without the old name and logo. Certainly leaves the possibility open that we could see future uniforms such as the 70th and 75th with the new logo in the future. I know it’s been suggested here already but how cool would it be if they literally brought back the 70th without the feather on the spear? With that being the only difference?

If this means the Dollar Tree Steelers uniform is dead, that's another step in the right direction.
I don't think we will ever get them completely dead. Maybe dialed back to once a year. Could you imagine how even more iconic the Hail Mary moment would have been in the jerseys they revealed today?
