(New Poll) The Washington Commanders Brand 2.0: Beer Drinkers and Hail Raisers

How do you feel about the Commanders Brand 2.0?

  • Vastly improved, if this is THE brand moving forward I’m satisfied.

  • I like the direction, but I still feel more to do. I will/have specified in thread.

  • I don’t like this new direction. I didn’t like the old either. They can’t make this work for me.

I have two of the $175 version I think. I’ve been pretty happy with the quality. Might be the $125 version. Either way, I expected the ironed on numbers, patches etc. The key is to hang them up to dry.

' For the last 15 years i have watched this fanbase age, myself obviously included. Wondering how the hell there was going to be an appeal to the next generation because it was getting harder and harder to see younger fans. In 18 months the vibe around the team with a young fanbase has appeared to change direction. Obviously an NFC Championship appearance along with Jayden being a very public figure helps that, but a large segment of the KIDS i see wearing Commanders jersey, have opted for the black alternate. It’s what appeals to younger viewers. There are some legacy teams that are steadfast in their tradition, but teams like the Packers and Steelers also haven’t been forced to change their name. They have also have had much more sustained success in comparison to us.

It’s the way of any forward thinking business. What’s going to be the demand of the consumer next? Clearly the team see’s what we all do, that the team has a fan base that’s ready to be supportive. A lot of which has already started coming back. If they thought that the current Uniforms were the reason ‘why’ they wouldn’t be changing them yet again (according to reports). And if the Black jersey’s aren’t a positive move, unlike the previous ownership who’s ego would’ve led to him continuing to roll them out DESPITE the fan reaction, then they won’t continue it. If it’s continuing to be a part of the team year after year, it’s likely because it makes sense to keep it.
While all of this may be true, I think it's fair to say that rather than "ego" being a driver, it would be nice if some of the driver wasn't strictly $ and general fan approval (like mob mentality, it doesn't always drive sound decisions!). Rather, it would be nice if they took some things on some kind of standards. Like, for example - uniqueness.

I think this team was always one of the cooler teams with B&G. It just wasn't the same as other teams, which was straight-up awesome! The thing that I have heard so many others here say that really resonates is that the Black and Yellow is FAR too reminiscent of Steelers colors. I just can't get behind that at all. If they want a black version for the younger generation, I can get that, but I wish they had the spirit to find a way to make it a "Commanders" thing - and not have it line up too closely with any other team. That would have been cool.

A lot of fans, pre name change and all that, were wanting some sort of a black alternate. Years back there was even a ‘shadow’ collection made that was pretty popular.

The black is an alternate. It’s a change of pace. Admittedly I think they could do better with the black. Personally I’d like to see a model much more similar to our old Burgundy jerseys when talking about accents and number / name font. Just do it with Black base, Burgundy numbers trimmed in gold, and burgundy and gold accents on sleeves… like this:

SkinsNumberOne

That's why I wanted something more along these lines color wise.

I would change the number font to match our old number font with the more 'block' look too.

Where did Commanders' uniforms rank in a recent fan study?

Zach Cohen of FanDuel recently revealed the non-scientific poll results ranking every NFL team's uniforms. Cohen named the five teams at the bottom of the list, beginning with No. 32 — the Commanders.

Washington Commanders' uniforms remain unpopular.

While Cohen's poll is not an official one, the results speak for themselves. Washington has consistently ranked at the bottom of these lists since the introduction of these uniforms.

Dead last sounds about right for those unis. The Snyder stench pervades. The whole brand should’ve been flushed down the toilet day one. Josh says he’s not an F- guy though so I have no doubt he’ll make improvements.

Those white ones are so putrid I am able to tolerate the black ones a couple of times a year. I remember the rage I had when I saw the WOSH and Mrs. the WOSH up there shilling those things. They are an abomination and my rage for them still burns fierce as ever. You could offer me the choice of a million dollars tax-free or the opportunity (with no legal consequences) to burn down the Nike factory where the first white ones rolled off - and I would light that match in a heart beat.

Actually, double it.

I would still choose the factory.

The Commanders uniforms have never been judged strictly on their own merits.

With that said, I am excited to see what the alternative looks like. We should know in a few weeks.

Also, it’s not surprising that the two most recently rebranded NFL teams are 31st and 32nd respectively…it’s almost like changing the name and brand from the historical/traditional has something to do with it. :sneaky:

It was telling how amazing that after the Hail Mary I never once thought. Damn! If only they weren't wearing those stupid black on black uniforms.

I'm actually not kidding. I HATED the black on black. We are B&G. However, I have to admit being at the game and having that moment embedded in my memory along with the joy of it has made me hate the uniform a littleless.

At least they let the Titans wear the old Oiler uniforms sometimes.

Almost sounds like a joke ... :)

Our ticket sales are down
Our tv ratings are down
Everyone hates our uniforms

But, other than that,... we're doing great.
I think we’ll all take the doing great ON the field if we have to choose! Whenever I cringe at the uniform, or the team name, I just try to think back a few years to when I would’ve gladly accepted much worse if it meant Snyder being gone.

My post about rebranding led me to ask this question. How many current NFL teams have played under a different name.

What does it mean?

Nearly every single name change/brand change was because of a move to another City. We were one of the few that did not move but still changed.

I do think they are asking a lot of us (the fans) looking at it with this perspective.

A bit more info here. Only 4 teams in the history of the league changed their name without moving Cities.

“There are three other teams in the NFL that have changed their mascots without moving: the New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Chicago Bears, while the Dallas Cowboys (previously Dallas Rangers) and Oakland Raiders (Oakland Senors previously) each rebranded their official names before playing any games in 1960”

Just reinforces how rare a thing this is we have had to deal with.

The white uniforms are the worst. The black stripes, the gradient effect, and the lack of gold combine for a look that is unrecognizable as our brand and amateurish.

The black uniforms are also bad no matter how much the kids like them.

I actually really like the helmets and the burgundy tops with the gold pants. If the rest of our uniforms were as good as those I wouldn’t rank us dead last, but because of the hideous white and black uniforms I think it’s deserved.

You're right. The white actually manage to be worse than the black, although the black are really bad as copies. Man, those white uniforms are bad though. I can understand how the Commanders would bottom out the league. I used to like the Skins' White. As a really young kid in the early 80s, I didn't like them that much, but later I started to really connect those colors with the team's winning. So, maybe there is bias in my affection for that particular mix, because the current white just looks so, so bad to me.
