Our Run game....whats really going on.

I think Robinson is mediocre to below average in pretty much every category. He's not awful, but he's a JAG. Mediocre speed, below average vision, mediocre agility, below average burst. He's a guy who will get you some yards as long as you put a top notch OL in front of him. Otherwise, he's not going to do a whole lot and he's certainly not going to scare anyone.

The only reason our running game was even remotely respected last season, and the reason that teams didn't just constantly drop a bunch of guys into coverage, was because of Daniels. Without the threat of Daniels I think Robinson would have looked even worse last year. Having him as our #1 back again is concerning. (Though let's be honest, he's not our #1 back, JD is).
He is in no way below average - he is average . His big positive is he rarely looses yardage and was able to break tackles in the backfield 80.2 percent of his runs are for positive yards
Barkley is 82.9%
Bijon Robinson 86.2
James connor 56.8%
Ettian 82%
Breece Hall 78.5%

I have to agree, and I 1000000% want to see us get more explosive out of the backfield. He's not below average, because 'average' is so fluid and wide spanning at the RB position that it's really hard to even quantify it. The position is completely dependent on the other 10 guys on the field. There's a handful of premium RBs in the NFL right now. Henry, Barkley, Gibbs, Robinson, McCaffrey.... maybe a few more. Then there is about 10 miles of guys that can all produce similar results, just in different forms. Alfred Morris is a perfect example of how quickly things can change with an RB and the scheme they're a part of. I have no doubt that BRob can be an effective runner, but I'm also fully aware that here is room for improvement at the position. Same goes for Ekeler. Personally I 'need' a guy in the backfield that has the ability to house call any ball he touches. There were a few times last year that both BRob and Ekeler broke free and got caught from behind. The dynamic changes when you have that, especially when looking at protecting Jayden.

The key here in 2025 given who we have and the fact we didn't sign any free agents is that we have a varied running backs room where we have some power (Robinson, McNichols), solid move the chains passing game (Ekeler) and a change of pace guy with 4.3 speed to stretch the field (Merritt).

I see Chris Rodriguez as the casualty here as he and McNichols do a lot of the same things but Peters really seems to like McNichols.

I really wanted to see Kenny McIntosh (Seattle RB currently) become a Commander. I would have explored a trade if I had the power :) IMO, he's akin to Ekeler in his prime.

I think BRob is a serviceable RB when you give him big holes to run through and the play unfolds as designed. But there are some RBs who have a knack for seeing small holes either just before they open up or right as they're opening up, and they can make that split second cut (even if the the play was supposed to be in the other direction) and turn a tiny hole into a huge gain. BRob is simply not one of those guys. IMO his vision is mediocre, likewise with his lateral agility and speed. He's a "3 yards and a cloud of dust" guy (though unfortunately it's often more like "1 yard and a cloud of dust", especially near the goal line.)

The coaches seem to love him, though. I guess he's a high character high motor sort of guy, even if his talent isn't special.

I think BRob might be long term damaged from that shooting. Good-to-go is not "exactly the same as before". I know how it feels decades after falling down on an ankle in HS. It has led to muscular imbalances that absolutely kills my legs and quadratus lumborum...

Not sure what you mean by this.
Robinson was shot before he ever played a regular season game for us.
That just means he became damaged goods at that time. So we never got to see a completely uninjured Robinson to compare with.

But my greater point is that "cleared-to-play" is not the same as completely and fully restored to the time before the injury. Soft tissue deficiencies can remain not detectable by X-Ray.

Brian Robinson came out of college, where he rarely played, as a 3rd round pick who was graded as an average starter as his ceiling and that appears to be accurate. He was never considered a good prospect and that was long before he was shot. He is what he is, we can and will do better.

I highly doubt it, he never would have made it back to play for that season after the shooting if he had real structural damage from the bullet. The reality is he got pretty lucky (after the misfortune of being robbed in the first place—silver linings and all that)

I think we’ve seen the exact BRob we drafted

I don't know. I could see the argument - getting shot definitely isn't helpful to any young player's progression. It's traumatic - just for starters.

But nor do I believe it necessarily derailed what was destined to be a great NFL career.

He's too fat is the problem 🤣

I think with the O-line improved, JD5 entering his second season with more weapons overall, it should be a big opportunity for B-Rob to get better results. I kind of feel like B-Rob would be better in the role of the second half bruiser that leans on an exhausted defense. The fact that he often can fight with or even through the first tackle if he has some momentum makes him a good option for later in games. I am just not sure how much can be expected from him as the feature back.
