The 2025 Offseason Camp Thread *Tweet HEAVY*

I have a small issue with Keim because he has a tendency to take a comment, take it way out of context, and beat on fans with it. He's done it to me a couple of times. I'm just saying.

Posters do that all the time too. They imply that entire online communities are a monolith… allowing for the viewpoint of a specific poster to represent everyone’s thinking. Additionally, implying that a community is hypocritical… because 2 different posters expressing opposing viewpoints… as a single entity.

People are strange online. 😂

Peters and Washington had to expect some workout holdouts this spring and perhaps into the summer for 29/30 year old players like Tunsil, McLaurin that don't have guaranteed money left on their deals. That's the nature of the beast in the NFL.

One reason Washington was able to get a player of Tunsil's performance history at pro bowl plus level was the fact Houston was considering whether they wanted to give him a rich extension and how happy/unhappy he would be if they tried to make him play out his current deal.

I could say the same thing in part for Marshon Lattimore. Yes, the injury history had something to do with the Saints wanting to move on as did the departure of Dennis Allen, who was a Lattimore champion within the organization.

But the other side of it was Lattimore only having a short time left on his deal as well.

That's what happens when you trade for guys in that situation in re age/contract, but again it was expected and had to be a calculation.

I think with Terry it's a matter of benchmarking him to what other players are getting. I don't think he is going to get Chase type money, but I think he is going to get pretty close to or perhaps $1 more than Tee Higgins.

The one concern I have for guys when the contracts get negotiated over the summer is they come in with less prep time and often times you see these guys get a hamstring or groin pull or other and that reduces their effectiveness out of the gate for the season opening series of games.

The one player I am NOT going to give an extension to right now is Lattimore if I am Peters.

Lattimore has to come in and prove he can stay healthy and play near his previous level or all bets are off.

Tunsil is more of a toss up. If at 29/30 you as the GM believe he has a good 4-5 years left and is in shape and diligent about his fitness then I think you have to pay him.

Agree with all of that. There's no way they DON'T intend to make Tunsil a very well-paid LT having given up the draft capital they did to bring him here. He is the plan for at least one more full length contract. I agree with all of the questions raised about Lattimore. And an agent negotiating can't really stand on a table and make ridiculous demands when a player hasn't played close to a full season in 3 successive years.

And every day that Trey Amos looks the part of a rookie starter on the outside is less leverage for Lattimore and his agent.

He isn't going to sit out the season.

And if Washington proves it has capable corners in Amos, Sainristil, Jones, etc. then it will behoove Lattimore not to burn bridges.

Lattimore cannot afford to sit out the season nor can he afford to have a bad year. No one will pony up a nice contract for him next year if he doesnt show he can play. I'm really surprised he isn't doing everything he can to put his best foot forward even non mandatory camps.

One would think that but Lattimore evidently has a big ego and sees himself circa 2021, but it’s 2025 and he’s already been traded once.

I think one of the reasons Brandon Scherff is still a free agent is he wants the $$$ for what he has done rather than what he can do in 2025.

He probably receives dozens of private messages a day, not to mention comments on his posts that none of us are reading but he’s getting notifications for. A lot of them are probably dumb as hell and it probably colors his overall view of fan interaction. So then normal fans are like “where the hell did this idea come from?”

To be fair, at a position like DB if Lattimore didn’t still think of himself as having his 2021 ability he’d be absolutely useless. That’s the double-edged sword with those sorts of guys.

At most I can see Washington guaranteeing his 2025 salary like they did with Deebo.

I don't see a rich extension coming for him here in DC, especially now if Washington has a pair of young corners in Amos and Sainsristil that are high draft picks and working on cheap contracts for the next couple of years.

If Quan Martin at safety has come as far as some have indicated, Washington could have most of its secondary in place for the next several years.

Veterans like Jonathan Jones can provide leadership and versatile ability to play inside/outside based on need.

I don't see any reason to pay a 29/30 year old corner $25M a year on a new deal.

The lay of the land has changed A LOT since the start of the 2024 season when Forbes was still on the roster with St. Juste and we didn't know what Sainristil could deliver as a rookie and how far Quan Martin would come.

Then you add in Amos and it changes things.

Yeah he definitely should be here but to be fair, we don’t know what his motive is until we get more information as it plays out. I think I read somewhere he has a history of staying out of voluntary minicamps. If it’s his ego or he wants more $ then it’s a bad problem, more for him than us. Just can’t assume at this point that is what’s going on. Will know before too much longer I suppose.

Maybe. But Amos hasn't taken one live NFL snap, so I think we should slow our roll on him. I know he's getting a lot of hype and praise, but it's OTAs not live NFL action. Just sayin'...

To your overall point, yes - we have to feel much better about the secondary compared to what we were looking at this time a year ago.

Anyone who has ever had a chronic hamstring issue knows, you get paranoid you are going to pull it again. I imagine he's trying to limit the chances he pulls one again on a meaningless practice play. I mean, obviously, he is going to have to practice, and there will always be the risk he reinjures himself. But I could 100% understand not wanting to expose yourself to what you might view as unnecessary risk. Maybe that's not it at all, but that's my guess.

How about being with the team and building some relationships while continuing his ‘rehab’ or whatever one wants to call what he’s doing? It’s not like he can only do that wherever he is and that those he chooses to do it with are exceptionally skilled at it. 😈 (Unless he is worried that he will reinjure himself boarding a plane.)

That's a fair point. Maybe he's working with his own MD/trainers to 'rehab' and prevent future injuries. There are probably people that specialize in hamstring issues. I'm not saying that's the case, just a possible rationale. I guess it's possible he just doesn't care or isn't a team guy. I tend to think Peters and Co. would have sniffed that kind of thing out before signing him, but who knows.

I spied SIP on a snippet Keim included of his Gold Club zoom in his most recent pod. 👁️

If that’s the case (re: his trainers, etc) I hope they are new ones. 😉

Well, you are about as well-positioned for the 'I told you so' as anyone ever could hope to be Chris :ROFLMAO:
