So if all the possible names out there would have made just as must money as Commanders, then no reason to change the name again,

"The fans would like it more"? That is subjective. Just like your statement that "nothing good you can do with it". As long as merch is selling, no reason business-wise to change it since it is not a gurantee the new name will sell so much more than Commanders and offset the money used for focus groups and merch contracts.

Jason Wright himself said the finalists were those three names.
If you are talking about Washington Football Team, that trademark is still with Washington but that is too generic to use as the primary trademark and would be too weak to hold up in trademark court. And no, you can't use the Redskins logo and attach it as a way to make it unique.
If you are talking about the Warriors, I said Snyder abandoned that one years ago. If had kept that, we probably would be the Warriors today with the old logo. But we are not.

The confirmation comes after team president Jason Wright can be heard telling head coach Ron Rivera and general manager Martin Mayhew the three names moving on in the latest episode of "Making the Brand," which was released Monday morning on WFT's website and YouTube channel.

Oh I dug deep in the name change back then! And I actually know if you saw the Making the Brand episode where Wright said the final three names bleeped out, he said (in order) Commanders, Redwolves, and DCFC. Heck even in a later episode, Wright explained why Redwolves and Wolves had to be eliminated due to TM conflict. they wouldn't bring it up if it wasnt; a finalist.
And on the premiere of Commanders, Wright was on JP Finlay BMitch show and even said DCFC was a finalist but Detroit had the TM.
And WFT was not as big a contender in the end BECAUSE of TM strength.

And you want proof your "false" on WFT is weak? Look at Utah Hockey Club. Even they took a real name when possible (Mammoth) because they knew a generic name isn't profitable. And they were a new team. WFT will never come back either.

And if the three finalist were bleeped out, how do you know what he said ?
Is there something showing what he actually said. ( Maybe there is. Still haven't seen it. )

And clearly you didn't ready my linked posts. We don't need to go overboard with brand expansion. It can be as simple as adding a soldier dog tag. That strikes an image in people's minds when they see it IRL.
The dog tag is the primary campaign. The German Shepherd K9 stuff is more of extra expansion I am putting out. I figured since we bring in the dog tag, why not the very dog used in K9 units in police, govt, and military (all use the role Commander)/

Belgian Malinoise is the bad ass SOPs dog...not a German Shepherd. They are both similar looking to most people. Malinoise is typically smaller, shorter hair and longer nose...and much smarter, but very similar in looks. Just FYI!

The Washington Post conducted a new poll about the name and people's feelings towards it. The poll was of DC area residents. Bottom line: 61% of the respondents said they were fans of the team up from the 45% reported a year ago, half of those polled said they loved or liked the name up from 34%, and only 8% said they hated the name Commanders.

DC area residents might not be the most representative sample of a fanbase that extends throughout the southeastern United States and beyond, but it’s really no surprise that time, winning, and a superstar QB have improved public opinion of the brand.

I realize it is anecdotal, but I have yet to meet anyone who thinks Commanders is a good name.

My problem with ‘Commanders’ is that it never had any significant fan support or momentum. It was manufactured out of thin air due to Rivera’s odd fixation on the military. It being a ‘top 3 finalist’ is irrelevant because the options were determined arbitrarily by a couple of team front office rentals who made little effort to find a name that would resonate with the fanbase.

I thought Redwolves was dumb from the outset and just a desperate attempt to sub out ‘skins’ for something else. But I would have embraced it because a significant portion of the fanbase liked it. Instead we ended up with what Rivera and Wright liked, which never should’ve been a driving factor.

I understand the copywrite arguments but the truth is, with enough desire and $$ those likely could have been overcome, or a name chosen with slight alterations. I have never bought the idea that would’ve been a insurmountable barrier had they chosen ‘Wolves’ or ‘Warriors’ (there is precedent for using the same sports moniker across different pro sports already).

None of it matters now. However fans feel about it and however long it takes them to be done venting about it - will be tolerated here on this topic.

Honestly, I just wanted a name that was either fun or cool.

If they had gone with the D.C. Revenuers I would have laughed and embraced being the villain of the league. If they chose the Washington Werewolves I would have howled with delight. If they chose the DC Conspiracists I would have whispered approval anonymously. If they chose the Washington Interns with a logo of a dirty old man chasing a skirt, I would have thought Snyder really wanted his team to be a self portrait.

Of the standard names, I liked both Redtails and Redwolves. I really liked I don't think it was Codetalkers, but it was something along those lines that paid homage to the Native People who helped develop that unbreakable code that served us in WWII.

Yeah, I think so too. Not just broke and cheap, but also distracted battling the various scandals, some of which had legal implications for him and all of which combined threatened his ownership of the team. I tend to blame Snyder for picking the name, but it’s entirely possible he stayed away somewhat from the process, and the whole thing was a concoction of Jason Wright and/or Ron Rivera as many of you have suggested.

Regardless, it needed to be fixed, and the new owners should have made that an immediate priority before it started to sink in. Claiming they were busy working on “more important things” was a lame cop out. Just my opinion, I know some people don’t want to criticize the new owners, but nobody’s going to change my mind on this. They’ve done a great job with the team so far, and they saved us from Snyder, so I will be forever grateful. But on this one thing they dropped the ball.

And what choice do I have? I was never given any evidence or sound reasoning as to why Redskins was offensive. Had that been made clear, I would have applauded a (sensible) name change.

My support for Redwolves was simple. It appeared to be the name that fans liked the most. That’s it. And I never bought into trademark expenses as an excuse not to use it. This is the NFL after all, a behemoth of power and influence run by billionaires. We joke about Snyder being “broke“, but obviously that’s far from the case.
