2024 Tight End Room. Zach Ertz, John Bates, Ben Sinnott, Colson Yankoff. 2025?

Bowers despite his pedigree was ranked ~20th on fantasy football preseason rankings for TEs. Its how i got him in round 8 or whatever it was. Code for pump the brakes on rookie TEs.

They need to spend time in the TE room, OL room, WR room and dare I theorize also time with the RBs. On top of that full plate, need to have an OC that uses TEs a lot (we really hadn't ft. TEs significantly since Jordan Reed) and now he has a stud deserving of targets to compete against, Ertz.

He's raw and learning but I am happy he'll have the same OC again next year.

Zach is Zach. At his age, he is still very productive in our offense. Another good off season in the books for him, who knows.

Bates is a 6'6" 260 lbs blocking TE. Might be one of the best blocking TEs in the league, but not much of a threat in the air. Can do it, but isn't his super power.

Ben is 6'4" and around 250 with his rookie body and mind. He had alot of missed blocks this year with his feet and he lost more than his share of point of contact battles. However, when you dig into his tape, he was just off. Rookie off. With this offense and our situation, he worked himself out of some playtime. Plus, we did shift some gears coming out of our 3 game losing streak that moved us more to a 2 TE set which he was clearly the 3rd one. All things said, once he gets an off season of NFL training and knocks the shine off, he will be just fine.

We will always look to add a player, but the opportunity of drafting, FA or trade has to be the priority at that moment. Do we draft early or see a FA we think can come in and compete immediately? Who knows and to put it simply, our TE room was not our top issue vs the Eagles, Giants and Cowgirls. Since they are the standard that we have to fight every year and one of them happens to be the SB Champion, what moves us forward with the best option to be more consistent on the field.

One reminder, winning 12 regular season games and 2 playoff games is not playing above your talent. I'm sorry. That is consistent effort and execution. When you play above your talent, you win a game or two vs teams that appeared to be better than you 'on paper'. The improvement we need to make to be more consistent is we lost key 1v1 battles during crucial times. So, we need to find guys who can win those battles more consistently. That takes time, draft capital and money. We have a GM that appears to have a pretty good plan in place to take the next step. Now we get to see if it works in season 2. Effort and execution is how you win. Its Adam and his teams time. LFG.

Smart GM looks to find a depth vet to come in and be there if Ertz gets hurt or Sinnott is revealed as a very athletic looking bust.

Yankoff has a certain eccentric vibe that reminds me of Gronk.

If only he turns into the pass catcher.

Been discussing this on Bluesky. I think the primary thing that happened to Sinnott is that he was a victim of success.

We were winning. That means less opportunity to put players on the field for development so Ben saw less field time as the year progressed. You don't want to give a rookie a trial by fire season if you are in a serious playoff race. Combo that with the fact that Ertz just became so important to the offense and maintained great health and Sinnott just never got priority snaps.

This was the opposite situation of Sainristil and Coleman. Mike came in and the players ahead of him failed miserably so he got a chance and was elevated to starting corner from slot. The more he proved himself, the more he cemented his position. Coleman missed the offseason due to injury and was super raw so he started out split timing until both injury and his play proved he was the best one to play.

Sinnott had to beat out a borderline HOFer to get snaps. Then, he had to beat out a borderline HOFer who became his rookie QBs security blanket. In other words, I think Sinnott will be just fine. There just wasn't room for him on the field this season.
When you absolutely need and want that catch, who do you put in? Sinnott or Ertz?

I think they must have seen, the guy who was a lock was Ertz. I don't know, did they think Sinnott was a smidge behind? Did they think he was miles behind? I should add; we did see some times when it did look like Sinnott was just a bit off in his pattern or he just looked a bit more shaky. It looked like a regular rookie issue though and experience would resolve as long as he put the work in.

In one of the highest leverage points you can have in a game, fourth-down fake punt, down some, they threw to Sinnott. So, they clearly believe in him. It's just unclear what the exact thinking really is, but I imagine they think like the above; more reps, he could be a major contributor. I hope so, because that was a high draft position.

Utah actually had a great breakdown of this, but I can't remember where he put it. I know he posted it this week.

I maintain that Sinnott was the target on the fake punt because he was an afterthought to the defense. The Eagles were lulled into ignoring him through the use of a 3D chess strategy, using him less and less down the stretch so that he could be foisted upon them by surprise when the right moment presented itself.

That’s Kliff Kingsbury. He is never afraid to go to a less heralded guy in a key spot if he thinks he can catch the defense off guard. I love that about him:

We should find out soon if they are going to resign both Ertz and Bates. If they do it makes you wonder wtf Sinott is supposed to be good at.

Resurfacing this thread for a temperature check, as we now of course know that Ertz and Bates were both resigned. I’ve seen a mix of optimism and unease around Ben Sinnott- which is understandable after 5 targets Y1. But I am a truther.

He's undoubtedly raw. Route running and ability to separate need big development and refinement. But those are coachable/learnable traits and he’s got the perfect vet in Ertz to sit behind in that respect.

However this team used preemo draft capital on him with a hell of a lot of talent on the board, that is pressure and expectation. Rookie TEs usually do not usually flash early but I think a couple of recent exceptions have clouded this for a lot of folks.

Absolute best cases here is we hope he could follow similar arcs to guys like McBride (eerily similar sitting behind Ertz for 1.5 years until injury with Kingsbury calling plays) or even Kittle/Kelce who were also raw but super-athletic coming out.

He's still only 22 years old- time and the tools are there, but It just might be a Year 3 breakout, if there is one...

Would love to hear what folks think in May 2025. Are you feeling optimistic or cooling on Sinnott?

Cautiously optimistic. The trust in AP thing and all. On paper he was a reach of a draft pick and maybe would have fallen into the third round, but who knows, and it doesn’t make any difference anyway at this point. Seems unlikely to me to think we get a second consecutive healthy season from Ertz, so he’s going to get his shot. If he flames out so be it, TE will go up near the top of the list of needs for next off-season. Maybe it takes until year three to break out, but we definitely need to see significant progress this year.

My worry about Sinnot, his usage was next to nothing after week 15. What happened?

I'd hoping to see him used in different packages and moved all around this year, perhaps in a H-back or even occasional FB roles

I think people are making a bit too much of this. It was the push for the playoffs and Ertz, the starter, was healthy and productive. These game were too crucial to worry about giving a rookie extra reps. In the playoffs, your gonna lean on your vets, especially when they are playing well.

I am cautiously medium. I'm neither optimistic nor pessimistic. We're going to find out what he is this year, though. Because I think you have to believe this is Zach Ertz's last year. It might not be, but you have to plan like it is. If Sinnott isn't able to show he can fill Ertz's role, then we're TE shopping next year.

I think he's going to be featured in the preseason to see what he's learned, and see if he can take reps from Ertz. We'll see.

Odds are Ertz will miss some games this year. This was his first full season since 2017. In the games he misses, we will see what Sinnott has to offer

I'm hoping that if he does nothing again this year AP can trade him to Philly for a 3rd.

Dan Quinn gave Ben Sinnott some love at his presser yesterday, basically saying he had a tremendous offseason. Hope we see him take the next steps this year. Quinn also mentioned they brought in over 100 High School Football coaches to observe... in order to show appreciation for what those guys do at their level with the youth they coach, share some of the techniques Washington's coaches use, and recognize the importance of HS coaching. Pretty cool, something I've never heard of the team doing.
