So, true or false: if the Redskins had cut Haynesworth the day before paying him the $21M, they wouldn't have owed it to him? If it were tied to the season before, it sounds like they would have still owed him the $21M either way, however the picture was sure painted as if he earned the money by being on the roster this past offseason.

If it is as you say, and the verbiage was questionable, then I'll take back some of what I said. I still think Albert should man up and play the position he's asked to play.

And Albert's interview last night was ridiculous. Of course he took the douchebag tough-guy role. "Say it to my face!" How immature can you be? I hope he says something to Phil Daniels, so Phil's old-ass can beat him to a pulp.
 
I wish Haynesworth was starting on our DL. He has the potential to make this team better. Problem is you don't know when he will give you 100% effort or just go through the motions. To Haynesworth it is all about him and his stats.

Shanahan and Haslett wanted him to play some NT and DE in the 3-4. Haynesworth balked cause he wouldn't have the stats he covets. You know what...we all have to do things in our jobs we don't like. We man up and do the job we're paid to do. Haynesworth puts himself before the team I love.

He has been a distraction. To me his is the Randy Moss of defense. All the talent in the world, but don't know when he will put it to good use. When your teammates call you out publically it says a lot.

Time to cut ties with Big Al.
 
Totally agree, riggins. Daniels' quote summed it up perfectly:

“He just needs to think about what he’s doing on the football part of things and know that people are counting on you. Not the coaches, Not the organization, but your teammates are counting on you. That’s what I play for every day, my teammates. That’s the part of the game that slipped by Haynesworth.”

This right here. We can complain about AH all we want, but all he's doing is being the same guy he's been his entire career. Let's review:

It was Deion Sanders' fault that he didn't want to play for Schottenheimer.

It was Jeremiah Trotter's fault that he didn't thrive in Marv Lewis' scheme.

It was Laveraneous Coles' fault that he didn't want to be a posession WR for Gibbs.

It was Brandon Lloyd's fault that he couldn't produce in Saunders' scheme.

It was Archuletta's fault that he stunk under Gregg Williams.

It's Haynesworth's fault that he doesn't want to play for Haslett.

Already on the horizon: It's McNabb's fault his passer-rating takes a huge dive under Shanahan.

Is anyone else seeing a pattern here? This Haynesworth saga, it's not new news. It's the same crap this team has brought upon itself for ten years. If anything, the continued reports of Haynesworth's boorishness serves as a continual finger-in-eye-reminder of just what a joke this franchise has become, and how terrible the front office truly is.

Rather than gnash my teeth and clench my fists over whatever idiocy Haynesworth is saying, all I can do at this point is shake my head and hope this time ... THIS time, will be the last time Snyder and whomever he's hired to make personnel decisions will stop making the most obviously boneheaded, expensive moves on the planet and someday, the Redskins will cease to be the laughingstock of the NFL, if not all of sports.

Ok then. I'm done with MY rant in this thread. :) Carry on.

If he wants to finish this season on a high.....well....higher note, Shanahan really has to do one of two things with Haynesworth.

1. Ditch this crappy 3-4 and start Al at DT and let him play.
2. Stick with the 3-4, acknowledge Al will NEVER be happy with it, and cut him loose.

To me, it's that simple. Quit trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Either play to the strengths of the players you have or stick to your scheme and try to find players who will fit it and jettison those who don't. Anything else just doesn't make sense.
 
It boils down to maturity - some people shoulder adversity (regardless of who is at fault), move on and deal with it like grown ups. Some people decide to take a "me-against the world" view point, and sulk. Its just all about what kind of person you happen to be. We are clearly seeing what kind of person Albert is in this melodrama.

I think there is a third choice, Jimbo. Play Al at DE in the 3-4 (which is basically a 4-3 DT, depending on technique) and let him play. That was what we kept hearing Haslett say Al was going to be doing for them in the off season. Once games got here, we started seeing more and more of him at NT though. Something Al has been vocal about not wanting to be since he was a Titan looking at hitting the FA market, I might add.

Now having said that, Al is in the wrong. Period. He has been paid to do a job and that job is defined by the coaching staff. He needs to do it the best he can, whether he likes it or not and stop whining about it. Frankly, if the coaching staff told him his job this week was to run through concrete walls, he should be trying to do just that for the $36 million he has paid to date (although I wouldn't expect him to lead with his head). And he should do it with a smile.

Of course management shoulders some responsibility for dysfunctional behavior. Al is the product of his environment, going all the way back to high school. He had a lights out Jr year, got a full ride offer from TN and took his senior year off. Once in college, he was mediocre until it was time to perform for the draft and he turned it up to raise his draft status. In the NFL, he has never played to full potential except when staring at a contract year. The institution of football has made Albert what he is today and Mike Shanahan has had a hand in that for sure.

Did I miss something... wasn't a Alberto a head case prior to signing with the Skins. From what I have read just about everywhere has him being exactly the same as he is with the Skins, prior to signing with us.

I guess we can fault the Titans coaching staff..... or maybe it's just Alberto.

me? I'll be ***ting on Shanahan and Allen every chance I get if they do not craft IMMEDIATE improvement in this team. they f'd this up badly....and have nothing to show for it. AH was held acconutable. ok. how about this incomepetent coaching staff being held accountable? they've basically accomplished next to nothing over last year other than demonstrate: 1) they can dismantle a somewhat effective defense; 2) they can cut loose players that better coaching staffs can draw production from; 3) they can alienate their QB as well as the last bunch; 4) they can get clobbered in games as well as the last bunch; 4) they have an off-season conditioning program that hasn't accomplished ***t when it comes to reducing o-line injuries or hamstrings; 5)oh...and they never point the finger at themselves; 6) they're no better than the last group, maybe worse, in developing RB talent; 7) they're no better than the last group in finding and coaching receivers to do basic stuff like...oh I don't know...catch a ball and hold onto it.

what a bunch of f'ing chumps. more of the same o. same o.

these clowns are laughable. look at all the doormats performing better than this sorry outfit. where does blame really fall in all of this? thank you Dan. thank you Bruce. thank you Mike. thank you Jim. thank you Kyle. professionals my arse.
