I recommend Lighthouse Sound, and Glen Riddle. It’s been a few years since I’ve been in that area, but those two were faves of mine, Lighthouse especially. Both down OC way, but well worth the drive.

I had over $300 in scorecard points at Golf Galaxy, so decided to buy the Callaway Elyte Driver (same clubs as my recently added woods). I went with the standard model. I currently have the Callaway B21 driver (which was all the rage prior to the Paradym driver release). The B21 was a game changer for me and has really helped me consistently hit fairways (although I do not drive the ball far). The Elyte driver looks similar although it is a little 'blockier' (not quite as wide a face, but a little larger face vertically. Taking it out for the first time this afternoon.

I used to buy 9-10.5 degree drivers until I recently was fitted for one. More loft is better for me now that I'm a senior. I was fitted around 12-13 degrees.

Yeah, my golfing buddy asked me why I didn't get fitted, and also wondered why I didn't go with a higher loft.

I am not even a good enough golfer to justify paying what new clubs cost off the rack, much less good enough to justify being 'fit' for one. Lol. I know logically that makes no sense - if you're spending that kind of $$ on a club, why not make sure it's perfect for you? As for higher loft, I tend to launch my drives high anyway. My B21 is a 10.5 degree driver and I am trying to keep the set up very similar with the Elyte. I do have the ability to crank it up or down a degree.

My biggest question with the new driver is whether I'll see a return to my fade/slice tendencies. The B21 was specifically designed to reduce slicing. I think I finally learned that I needed to make a full turn on driver swings vs. arm swinging, and that I have more or less permanently solved my slicing woes. But I guess we'll see how it goes with the new driver. It does have a moveable weight to set it for a draw bias if I have any issues tending to go right with it.

I would suggest that you experiment on the range with closing your stance some before toying around with the weighting. Just my 2 cents.

This time though, I had just won my fantasy baseball league, so I had an extra $500 to blow so I got fitted and bought the latest Callaway Ai Smoke driver.

Yep. I want to hit it straight down the middle because my mechanics are solid, not because I manipulated the club. Exactly my mindset.

Fades and slices are usually one of two things. An over-the-top swing or your clubface is open at impact.

Nice! Yeah, my original intent was to update my driver because one of my playing partners hit my B21 last weekend and was crushing it, fell in love. And I had all of those cash points so I basically got a brand new driver at half price.

Of course, the next day I find out my playing partner has bought a used B21 on EBay

My main goal was always ‘not in the woods’. 😉

I used to have the best short game of anyone I played with. Anything inside 100 yds I was money on. But I couldn't hit a straight drive to save my life. Now I'm hitting fairways consistently but my short game is average at best.

Golf is hard.

Nothing like being on a par 4 in 2 and then 3 putting. If I had $1…

One of my friends has this golf mantra 'play every hole like it's a par 5'. I guess the idea is, bogey golf on average is not bad golf.

My problem is, I play the par 3's like they are par 5's too

The wife and I played Ocean Resorts Golf Club today in Ocean City off of Rt. 90 close to Rt. 113. I recommend this course for the price. We buy the Tee Time Golf Pass coupon book, and this course was $50/cart in our book. There was water on almost every hole so challenging the first time through the course. It has a few blind shots and a few very narrow fairways but overall was a very pleasant round.

So, my initial report on the Callaway Elyte driver after 2 rounds. First of all, I was worried about switching from the B21 as it was specifically designed for chronic slicers if the ball. But I had zero issues with the Elyte even on the standard setting.

Secondly, my drives were 20-30 yds longer than I usually hit. I mean… big difference. Those extra yds give me much more frequent chances to get to the green in 2 on par 4’s.
