I could be wrong but it is possible Zadarius Smith doesn't sign with a team until late in camp to skip camp and let injuries happen so he has more suitors, which he may already have a number of.

The front office went after at least a few players in the off season. They signed some, could not afford others (didn’t want to pay what another team did). Two players stood out to me pre-draft. A CB and Bosa. The CB said he had a choice between the Commanders and Detroit. He chose Detroit for what appears to be more money. The Commanders went after Bosa. He got a one year 12.6 mil deal to sign with Buffalo. I wonder if that was a choice thing and/or money thing? It was clear AP wanted him.

The nice thing about having needs where we do is that all of these problems are eminently solvable. We don’t need a QB and we don’t need a LT and those are the pieces that generally don’t hit free agency.

Edge players are available in free agency and via trade every year. Ditto safety and CB.

It’s still a head scratcher that we give out $30 M to Javon Kinlaw but shop with a budget at other positions and for some players like Reid who have a much better resume.

I hope Kinlaw doesn’t turn out to be Peters’ version of Mike Oliphant whose trade to Cleveland for Earnest Byner was vehemently opposed by Bobby Beathard because Oliphant was one of his draft picks and looked at him through rose colored glasses.

Keim or someone else claimed that the FO told him that they were surprised to hear this from Reed and it wasn't true. Not completely sure I buy that though as Reed was drafted in SF in the 5th while AP was there.

I've hated the Kinlaw signing and I still don't think it was the best use of $ but take a look at the AAVs of the DTs signed. At the < $20M/yr range, all these guys have warts. Tomlinson is still a good player but he is 31. Allen, Jarrett and Hargrave look washed. Wharton is an undersized DT who had a career season as a pass rusher but predictably couldn't hold up against the run. Kinlaw's contract doesn't look off in comparison to a bunch of these other names.

I would guess that heading into the 2026 draft our biggest needs would be Outside WR, Edge, DT.

Off chance of Outside CB, RB.

A need but not a "big" one will be SS. General competency isn't that hard to find and isn't that expensive. Chinn did not exactly demand the big bucks when he left.

Sure we could upgrade massively to a great safety, but they're rare.

I 100% agree. Edge, TE1 and LB are going to be bigger needs than WR. And adding a rookie center also makes a lot of sense.

I wouldn’t be against doing what the Falcons did, only in terms of double dipping at edge, not with regards to the trade up. I was thinking about signing Trey Hendrickson as a FA next offseason, and also taking an edge high.

We'll have Lane and McCaffrey under contract. That's it. Just 2 WR's and both are best in slot.

Of course WR will be a big need. Even if we bring back McLaurin he'll be 31. Who knows when the decline starts.

I think it’s just as likely that we will have Lane, McCaffrey, McLaurin and Deebo under contract. But, your point is still well taken. We could use a young guy with WR1/WR2 potential.

Although, honestly, if we resign McLaurin, and or Deebo, I think drafting a TE that could catch 70 balls and is a genuine threat up the seam, would be even more impactful.
