Based on testing and measurables, I think Coleman is actually considerably more athletic than Conerly. That said, I’d take a more polished athlete any day.

Remember, the catalyst for all of this was Greg Zuerlein. Should be a HOF for kicking that clutch 50+ kick in horrible weather to beat us in Game 16.

I just hope wherever Coleman winds up he gets to stick. It's pretty amazing how successful he's been despite never playing the same position two years in a row. For that reason, if they decide that he's best at guard I hope it's not as a fill-in for Cosmi with the plan to flip him to the other side midseason. I really think he has a chance to be excellent if he gets an opportunity to settle into one position.

Ron would have been better off going with any random board found on the Internet.
A 3 year old kid with crayons could randomly choose better players than Riverboat did year after year.
The bar could not get any lower.
Hell, for once we'd probably have been better off if Doofus Dan made the draft picks from 20-23.

I think it depends on the color of crayon the child was using, and the color of crayon Dan was using.

Sad, that's true, yeah i think Dan can do the draft better than Ron.
It was funny to hear Jay explain Bruce's approach to the draft and Fa -- Bruce did it by reading the Internet and making decisons that way. Now that's not the path to excellence clearly but mediocrity at best -- but yeah Ron would have done better just making decisions off of Thor, Kiper, PFF or name that board or just asking random fans what to do at the draft party.
Clearly ES and BGO was never considered with "name that board" or the team would have been a post season regular!

Obviously the end result is what matters most in a draft trade (or any trade), but that carries with it so much nuance - where a player winds up, who’s around them, coaching/scheme, injuries, etc.
However, I’m of the opinion that what matters most is the process. Starting with more ammo is usually a good thing given the unpredictability of drafts - every evaluator gets it wrong at times - but then you need to factor in the state of your team, will a trade down net you player in the same tier, scheme fit, prospect’s floors vs ceilings, etc, etc.
Whether they get individual moves right or wrong, I can’t help but give this staff positive marks in terms of process.

I’m all for versatility and cross-training, but one of the drawbacks of our current oline situation is having 2 young guys - Coleman and Conerly, moving to new positions and competing at RT. Because then the “loser” of the battle needs to move inside - yet another unfamiliar role, but now with less time to get acclimated.
But who knows, maybe instead they just stick them at LG and RT respectively.
Someone mentioned Coleman showing more athleticism than Conerly, but… Conerly isn’t as strong against bull rushes, and Coleman, while he has quick feet, has been more susceptible to speedy rushers. So, while it’s certainly possible things change as they develop, to me Coleman moving inside and Conerly competing at RT makes the most sense.

Everyone seemingly wants to trade down for “more draft capital”. But the thing is quantity>quality is not always the case, sometimes it’s the opposite. And having “more swings at it“ doesn’t necessarily give you a better chance of hitting on a quality player. Those additional swings are often going to be at a much lower hit rate percentage. Every pick has a value, and the higher the pick the higher the hit rate (duh). So in the end, more picks is not equal to more capital. It’s just more picks—the overall capital (value) remains the same assuming a fair trade. Of course there are situations that come up where a trade down makes sense, but I think the value of doing it is overrated.
As for our draft, I’m really happy they chose to stay put and take top talent available at premium positions with their first two picks, rather than try to trade down until there’s enough picks to fill every perceived hole as many would have them do. Also extremely pleased that they were able to go O line at 29. Definitely the right play. Protecting Jayden should be top priority! Waiting until the later rounds for non-premium position (RB) was the way to go as well. Who knows how things will work out with these draft picks, but I totally agree with you that they nailed it as far as process.

Coleman at LG and Conerly at RT is the way to go. They will be fine with the switching around. Everybody says Conerly will easily adapt with his elite athleticism, and Coleman played both guard and RT in college. Conerly just needs to get stronger. And considering he’s only 21 and last time I checked we have a real nice weight training facility, it shouldn’t be a problem. Colemans weakness against speed rushers may not be so easily fixable, but sticking him at guard really helps keep it from being exposed.
This gives us a real solid line for the next couple years, with the 2 ex chiefs as experienced versatile back ups. And I’m sure they’ll continue to add young talent from the draft every year to make sure Jayden ALWAYS has a rock solid line in front of him. AP is doing a great job and we’re very lucky to have him.

I have not studied Conerly but I am assuming he can pass protect with a vertical torso so he keeps his center of gravity on the middle of his feet. Other than that, Coleman is pretty athletic, but that is a fairly significant athletic limitation for a Tackle.

I think more than anything Conerly's feet are more nimble than Coleman even though Coleman does have quick feet -- but the kicker is more or less Conerly is technician with his hands and pass sets, Coleman is far from that. Conerly has a variety of pass sets where you can't just cue into his game as a pass rusher that easily and he doesn't leave his hands vulnerable the way Coleman does. Coleman committs early, and puts both hands on defenders often quickly, making it easier for defenders to swipe his hands away and get past him.
Conerly is more of a thinking man's tackle as to how he plays. Coleman who is more raw to football is more about using his athleticism. I think Coleman is the better of the two as to run blocking on the 2nd level.
am slowly rewatching the Eagles-Washington game with all 22.
Just some early observations.
Robinson -- vision, "meh" I can show multipe plays and I am only through the first quarter. I'll give you an example. see the 2nd-3rd clips below. He is determined to run to where I gather his blocks are supposed to take him. But if cuts the other way, there is some daylight. A few like that from the first quater alone where if he cuts in the other direction there is a crease. Watching Croskey-Merrit as an exampe, he's a more for the lack of better way of saying it, a flexible runner who can quicky cut and change direction. Robinson is mostly a straight line dude as a runner.
The first clip is the set up for Barkley's monster run. Look at that crease-gap. Heck any of us could take it to the house with that. Looking at the defensive formation before that play, the formation was exactly what some said the Eagles were exploiting for big run plays. The idea that some use to stop Barkley is to crowd the LBs close to the line of scrimmage with the notion of Barkley would have a hard time weaving through all those bodies. But some who played Barkley suggested the opposite because if Barkley breaks through that he has almost no one left who can stop him, and then its a race to the end zone. So some suggested, give more space for a 2nd line of defense against him to prevent those big runs. But anyway the scheme on that one walked into the big run. Chinn had a shot to take him down once Barkley started breaking away but it looked like a boy stopping a man on that play -- Barkley just embarassed him.
The offense line so far looks OK, but one O lineman always seems to be losing so pressure is coming from some where. Nothing killer though. Trent Scott so far was ok against Carter but part of that was they doubled teamed him a lot. You can see how Deebo could have helped this game some because it looked like in the flat there was some space to exploit on screens but thus far our playmakers weren't really making plays. Also looks like if Jayden had a half a second more it would have made a big difference. When Jayden had to get rid of the ball, the WRs are just a tick behind schedule so far.
