Fore!!! The Golf Thread

I had no idea this thread existed, thanks for the bump Boone. Sorry to read about your old course but sounds like they got just what they deserved.

As for me I am a recovering addict. I learned when I was 13 but never got any good despite playing a lot in my bartending days. Took a lesson and really took off, that turned me into an addict. When you have a change of clothes in the car to catch a quick nine after work, then at times change back into your shirt and tie to conceal just how often I did this before entering the house you are an addict.

I got pretty good but my resume is deceiving. My last official handicap was 6.9, I have 2 hole in ones and once shot back to back rounds of 69 and 70 (with a double on 18) but I was never that good. I got to a 6.9 by playing hard courses where you just need to shoot an 81, the 87's and 89's I shot half the time do not record as they only count the best rounds for some reason. On the rare occasion when I got matched up with a legit 5 or 6 I was at a huge disadvantage because that guy was way more consistant than I ever was.

I always wondered like skiing and fishing if I would ever lose the golf bug I had for 30 years. In my late 50's it happened, not sure why but I'm no longer driven to play golf at every opportunity. Not playing and age have sucked away my game, since I no longer play well I lost the desire to go out. It's a viscious cycle.
.
Got a job at a golf course where I can play for free. Even with that I probably played 9 holes a week last season, I plan on changing that this year.

I have not purchased a new golf club in at least 5 years, and although my bag is mostly comprised of fairway woods, I've played the same Cobra woods for at least 10 years.

Today, I updated my woods and bought (at not insignificant expense) brand new Callaway Elyte AI-designed fairway woods (3/5/7/9/11 woods) with senior shafts.

I'm pretty good with the woods so I am looking forward to seeing what I can do with a new bag full of them.

Funny, I was looking to upgrade my bag (it had been 6 plus years on the irons 3 plus on the driver and fairway woods.) Got a free full bag fitting from Club Champion late last year, and loved the irons, so bought them. Wanted to wait on the woods, because Titleist was releasing a new one, then my knee went kablooie.

Was at Golf Galaxy Friday hitting woods, and really liked the Callaway Elyte. Going back, probably next week due to tournament this week, and finish trying out a couple more brands. Callaway is in the lead right now though.

Got out yesterday afternoon for my first 18 in about 4 months, and did okay. Only managed one birdie, but ran about 3 or 4 others over the edge, or lipped out. Squeezed out a 79, because my short game needs work. Always the last thing to come back, the short game. Felt great to be back on the links though!

Just got back, and I went with the Elyte triple diamond 1, 3, 5. Can’t remember the last time I had a 5 wood in my bag. When I was young, it was driver, 4 wood, and 1 iron down. Last 20-25 years it’s been driver, 3 wood, started with 2 iron, then switched to hybrid, adding another wedge to the bag. Should be here in 2-3 weeks, as they had to be custom builds. The guy helping me at Golf Galaxy told me that it was perfect timing, as I will get quadruple points. He said with what I paid, I should be getting 20 $10 credit certificates. I said, “That sounds like a new putter!”😂

Count me in if the location is right.

Same! I played the 1st practice round for our after work league last week. We play 9 holes every Thursday afternoon. It's the first round that I've played since stashing my clubs in the shed last September and it showed......

I actually had a good round, for me. Shot a 41...😀

I don't know much about golf.
The only golf I have played is Miniature Golf at the OBX, and a little bit of the Driving Range.
So my only reference is football. And that sounds like a really good football score to me, so I will congratulate you
:claps:

Well...damn!
At least I kept our foursome entertained 😆

Glad I'm not the only one.
Maybe you and I could play, for an evenly matched competition

I think golf is the most difficult sport there is to master. I never will but it is incredibly challenging.

Holy cow. As mentioned, I've been playing with Cobra woods as my primary clubs for a decade. Spent a pretty fair chunk of change to upgrade to the latest Callaway Elyte AI-designed woods. I went with senior Mitsubishi shafts that are super light. It has had an immediate impact. There is an elevated par 3 with the green about 130 yds away over water and in 5 straight rounds I have put the ball on the green. I just have so much confidence in these clubs. And the fact they are available 3W through 11W is just awesome. I'm not a 'club whore' like some of my golf buddies are (changing clubs constantly). It's a big deal for me to swap out a significant portion of my bag. I think these new woods have the potential to really put me at another level (not that it would take much to do that, lol...).

I'm having fun with them.

The wifey and I are spending a month at Myrtle in October, and we will be golfing every other day. I store my RV down there now and found a campground that does monthly rates. I'm living the Myrtle beach golf dream now.
