I think if I commented on this before but you like Thibodeaux way way more than I do. To me Burns was clearly their number 2 guy last year. Thibodeaux best PFF defensive grade in 3 years is 71.9 his rookie year. He has a relatively cheap 5th year option as he hasn't made a pro bowl (its 13.4 million--if he had some post season honors it would either be the transitional or franchise tag amount) and I don't think the Giants will exercise the option. I see him as a Dorrence Armstrong level player--Chase Young would be another comparable. He had a bunch of schemed up sacks in 2023 in Wink Martindales blitz heavy defense, but an absolute abysmal 6.4 pass rush win rate that year and a 58.4 PFF grade. Last year he had a solid enough pass rush win rate in the mid teens so 2023 may be an anomality, but I think you are really overrating him.
Dexter Lawrence is either the first or second best DT in the NFL in my opinion (Chris Jones being the main competition). I think Brian Burns is a mid to low end 1 DE (think Montez Sweat). So its a good D-Line and adding Abdul Carter would make it really good.
Thibodeaux or Brian Burns i don't care pick whichever one you like as their #3. Burns is a steady 8 sack plus guy every season. Thibodeaux had 11.5 sacks the season before. Last year, he missed games and played with a wrist injury. Which one of those 4 D lineman is inferior to which one of ours?

Well said. If Lattimore goes down, our defense is in some serious trouble especially with how suspect our pass rush will be this year.
If one of the top goals is to find a starting outside CB, i would feel quite nervous if we miss out on Hairston, Revel or Amos tier. Finding a starting CB who could be on the field 100% of snaps on defense feels wayyyy more impactful than a guy like Henderson who maybe sniffs 50% of snaps on offense at best (and I love Henderson).
Yeah corner to me is the biggest code red spot. Don't get me wrong perhaps in a pure sense edge is the biggest need from the context that there is arguably not a single premium player on the D line and that ultimately needs to be changed.
But if I am looking at it from the lense of what could both set up THIS season and future seasons it would be CB. If we want a shot at the big dance this season, I think CB is the spot that could unravel a dream season more so than any other spot. It's the ticking time bomb spot where we need to cross our fingers. But if we had another potentially premium CB, i think that more than anything could prevent this season from imploding.

If AP goes CB at #29, I know he's not ranked at #29 but I'd be ecstatic if Morrison from ND was the pick but I cool with Amos, then a EDGE at #61 (Stewart or Oladejo)

I hate how so many of the CBs this year had injuries, and some of them big ones.
Playing CB well is such a delicate thing, and some guys just never come back from big injuries. Having so many draft guys in that boat is scary.

Dude I don’t know if Morrison even goes in the 2nd round. Hip injuries are not good, their camp isn’t saying anything about the injury and it’s his second hip injury (had one hs as well). I think it’s way too risky in the first.
I’m still hoping we can trade down, still get a corner (such as Amos) and trade 61 for Trey Hendrickson when the bengals realize they’re asking way too much and/or draft an edge in the first.
You’re not referencing Shemar Stewart are you? Zero chance he is around at 61, I doubt oladejo is either.

MD, I had no idea of his hip injury in high school. Thanks for the head's up. If you've read my posts, I am all in on Donovan Ezeiruaku at #29 and if he's been selected already would like to trade down. I'm good with Amos at #29 as he could go in the late 1st to mid-2nd.

I agree that the third round CB talent is fairly solid. One of those guys would fit nice with what we already have on the roster. Heck, they would allow the newbie to come in without expectations of them starting right away but could be 3rd, 4th or even 5th corner at first
I would rather they select a corner by the third, fourth at the latest. There is definitely a drop off after then even though there are some gems.

Hairston is a freak athlete. Plays zone and man. Sticky in coverage, elite change of direction.
But the kicker for me is he plays like a dog. And plays with bravado and swagger which I think you need at that spot. The dude looks fired up after every big play.
Adding some swagger to that unit. I watched an interview, the dude is full of personality, sort of like Smoot but not as annoying as Smoot. I like Smoot as a media personaitty but he has an irritating style about him at times. Hariston comes off brimming with confidence and swagger but is more a happy version of that than Smoot from what I can tell.
Willing tackler in the run game but can be sloppy on that front but in his defense he played with a shoulder injury last year.

What if Lattimore is as bad as he looked or his history of injuries doesn't magically dissapear? I can't place where I heard it but heard some national reporter when it was going down say a coaching source from Lattimore's old division had told them, Lattimore isn't good anymore and they arent surprised by his poor play. But lets say even that's not true and Lattimore is still good -- he's a walking injury typically. I like Peters and I understood why they made that deal but I suspect it's going to end up a dud, either because of play or injury, hope am wrong.
If Lattmore either is a bad player now or injured for a chunk of the season which I think there is a 50-50 chance happens. Then we got Jonathan Jones amd Sainstrill as the outside corners. Two fesity but undersized corners. Some say at this stage of his career, Jones is better on the inside. But who knows. With Noah I at slot. Doesn't feel hot, but its OK. Then what happens if Jones starts showing his age? It's not like they paid big bucks for him because there was a big demand around the league for him., he didn't have his best season last year or lets say one of these guys gets hurt? What if Jonathan Jones' pedestrian last season is a portent of things to come versus a hiccup -- at his age, its perfectly possible that he lost a step.

Would love Hairston at 29 I just dont think he falls to us. But this draft is so up in the air as to where guys will go its going to be a fun draft. Really like your argument about the impact of a rookie CB as opposed to a rookie DE. Very surprised if Lattimore starts 10 games this year either due to injury or perhaps even poor play.
I know CB feels a bit boring. But i like the depth better at D line than i do corner. And having a corner with freakish measurables would be cool for a change. Jonathan Jones was once an athletic freak but is coming off a pedestrian season and is 31 going on 32. Zero picks last season. We got him cheap for a reason. And I like the signing. But its not like we just signed some shutdown corner. Sainristill really emerged last season, good player, a bit undersized for outside corner but he can make due. Noah I is solid.
Lattimore to me is a wildcard. If we knew he'd be his younger self and durable then heck, we are set. We need one stud on that unit. But we don't know. He could suck, we've seen him suck. He could be an injury waiting to happen which fits his career. If we are banking on Lattimore to be the younger version and it doesn't happen -- we are likely screwed at corner. Getting a corner early, assuming we hit on that corner, would provide insurance for the spot IMO that needs the most insurace.

You might be right that he's gone. He seems the safest bet in our range considering health, etc. I like Amos too but he doesn't scream stud to me the way Hairston potentially does. Amos feels solid.
Revel's profile intrigues me, but with his injury and injury history, age, and playing mostly lower competition, he feels like more of a wildcard to me, but I can dig it if they like him albiet I haven't heard of any noise about their interest in him.
This team seems interested clearly in Hairston, Amos, Riley. I haven't watched Riley yet, I'll get to him. But Hairston to me jumps off the page. Heck even though its not sexy, there is some fun to him, Darrell Green style with his speed. I even saw Hairston return a punt. His personaluty comes off a bit fun, too both on and off the field.

Going to have to get a true #1 CB at some point, if not this year then definitely next year. If Hairston falls its a no brainer to me. Like you said its not a sexy pick like QB, WR, RB or game wrecking edge, but come game days we will all be grateful for it. Would hate to go FA or trade route again because your obviously giving up a ton for a good CB, don't want to be in a position of desperation at the position again which is how we ended up with Lattimore.
