The 2025 Draft Thread

I do agree with Dwinzit about WR>RB, not that we have to make that distinction.

to me it depends on what RB, what WR. In the first round tough for me to see a RB over a WR. As much as i love Hampton. I wouldn't take him over a faller at WR like Golden, McMillan, etc if it happens. I'd probably take Egbuka over him too. Maybe Higgins.

But conversely its tough for me to see a WR in the late 2nd that I would take over a RB, granted guessing who falls.

there is a backup thought too with RB. Especially if they trade down and pick up a mid round pick -- the options there intrigue me more than what we currently have in the RB room. Guessing in the mid rounds you got: Harvey, J. Hunter, D. Neal, J, James, Blue.

In then even in the later rounds I am more intrigued by Monangai, Woody Marks, Montrell Johnson.

I go back and forth on what position I'd like to see with our 1rst, but it's never RB or DE for me. It usually seems to be WR or CB. Someone like Morrison would make a lot of sense and I don't see him going mid 2nd like the mocks are putting him. I would like to trade back though and get more picks for rounds 2-4, which I think we'll do

Im really torn as to RB, part of me wants to get a stud high in the draft that will be the bell cow for the next 5 years, though Im nervous because where we pick I dont see a definite homerun (not that any are guaranteed to be). The other side of the coin is how much does our revamped O line improve what we already have at RB and then a later round pick would not have to be an immediate impact type payer. Makes taking a WR high in the draft a nice option.

Hokie fan here. I'd love to see Tuten in a Commanders uni, but I do not think he will ever take over a game for us. He is the 2nd RB I would like to see us add this year, but sits firmly behind Cam Skat. I think Camskat can absolutely control the clock while also being a long threat that scares defenses. Most of this is opinion (and like most of my opinions, may or may not be backed up by facts. )

BJ Green Edge Colorado is yet another Day 3 flyer type that could return great value. Green can move but his length is a concern.

to me it all depends on where they take the RB. Yeah I would go Skattebo over Tuten, too but am guessing Skattebo goes first.

As far as speedy backs in that 3rd-5th range: Tuten, Blue, Harvey are intriguing. No speed back right now on the team. Ekeler is more elusive at this point in his career versus fast.

Was listening to Cosell on Standig's podcast. Good listen. He talked about how this team lacks that explosive RB. Tuten would fit that in theory as part of a rotation.

Sadly, we don't have the draft capital to splurge on a thunder and a lightening, so that leaves us with neither really. But a back with a little bit of both plus a good blocker and receiving threat is the next best thing. I'm thinking thats Camskat more than anyone else who might be available at our 3rd round pick. In spite of my draft predictions in another thread, I'm thinking we will go Round 1) Best Ed available
Round 2 ) Best CB available
Round 3) Best RB avail
-although rounds 2 and 3 positions might swap based upon who's available

Yeah it could be that order.

I think they could double up in the draft with someone like Monangai with one of their late round picks. He's not a big dude but like Skattebo plays bigger than his size and is hard to bring down. Very different style to someone like Tuten.

Someone on one of the podcasts was talking about that because this draft is deep at certain position groups, DE RB for example, there will be some quality starters at these positions getting released after the draft. That and AP referring to how the scouting department also looks at others teams needs and evaluates who they may pick and thus release, going to be interesting to see how it shakes out this year.

I've been looking at other teams mocks on BS today. I really miss twitter this time of year, but I'm not going there.

So many teams double and triple dipping DL early and often.

My gut's telling me Jordan James could be a Day 2 surprise pick. I think he may be in that underrated group.

Could be. If McGinn's scouts he quoted are on the money, he won't be a surprise Day 2 pick but will be picked later but will see. The two they pushed that most mock drafters haven't much is Etienne and O. Gordon.

I have watched some Etienne, he's one that am having a hard time landing on an opinion. I haven't watched Gordon yet -- as far as Gordon goes he got enough votes to rank him 7th but lol some of the scouts killed him in their description.

It seems like the one dude who is a little below the radar, that is one of my favs, that they like is Giddens.

Among the players pushed here. They share the love for Henderson. They aren't as high as the mock draft community and some here as to Sampson.

The McGinn series has come out where personnel guys from different teams tell Mcginn what they think of these prospects. And their takes historically are more predictive of where these player go compared to mocks. They have Sampson as the 11th rated back, behind Tuten which I found interesting. One of them wondered if Sampson slides to the 5th. I doubt it but at a minimum feels slam dank he's there to be had in the third.

Look I like Sampson but i am not really married to any of these RBs, I'd be happy with a whole bunch of them. Judging by the scout's takes, a number of good running backs could be had in the third, Skattebo included. But i also really dig Hampton, Giddens, Kaleb Johnson. Tuten, Blue, Harvey, intrigue me.

Sampson is interesting. He was the first guy i think I landed on here after Henderson. But the deeper I dove into him, I found him to be a big enigma including for a dude that's fast, he doesn't have many 15 plus yard runs. One of the lowest in this group. One of the scouts goes "decent burst through the line of scrimmage but struggles with long speed." That comment bears out. Compare to Henderson for example. Henderson has much better hands as to pass catching (Sampson has a number of drops) and fumbles. Henderson is more explosive. More big runs. Henderson burns light boxes, Sampson not so much.

But Sampson for a small guy is feisty and can get you first downs. Tough runner. He's good closer to the red zone which is something you wouldn't expect for a smaller back. And has potential to be a better back IMO in the pros.

As far as fumbles go, ESPN has Skattebo at zero, some have him at 1. A couple of dudes on twitter said he had a ton. Warren Sharp who did a statistical profile on the running backs including highlighting fumbles -- didn't say a word about Skattebo having an issue with it but did mention Sampson. But I don't know one way or another with the mixed info on the subject.

As far as Sampson doing it with a non top notch O line. Not sure about that. At a minimum, he faced some light boxes and they kept him clean where he had some runway before getting hit more so than any other RB in this group. To quote Sharp "Sampson faced 6.3 defenders in the box per rush, the 2nd lowest in this class." Playing in Tennessee's open offense, he ran against a light box (6 or few defenders) on 60.9% of his runs but only produced a first down or touchdown on 22.9% of his runs against light fronts (third lowest).

"Tennesse elevated some of his counting stats. He was hit at or behind the line of scrimmage on only 26% of his runs, the lowest rate in the class."
