Quick cap question. In regard to what gooseneck presented about 40M next year from contracts ending/cutting: Does future money have a limit? For instance, does it matter if we’re over the cap for the following season by 40/50/60 million? Or is there some sort of soft limit? My assumption is it’s fine as long as you’re under by the start of the season, but I’m not entirely sure
I could find nothing on it. I know New England started with about 120,000,000 million in space this year so my guess is the limit would be the cap

Search for "Rule of 51" to get more. You can be over for a period, but there is a date when you need to be under and its a hard cap.

So, if rosters expand from 53 to 90 during the off-season, how can a team possibly stay in compliance with the salary cap? Even at league minimums, the additional 37 salaries would account for somewhere five and 10 percent of a team's salary cap -- and teams can sign those players long before the league picks a final cap number, anyway. This is exactly why the "Rule of 51" exists. Simply put, the "Rule of 51" states that, during the entirety of the off-season from the first day of the league year until the first game, the team's salary-cap status is determined by the 51 highest-value contracts on their roster.

I’d support it big time. Imagining a pedigreed rookie RB running behind our massively improved wall of meat (especially once Cosmi is healthy) is so fun
About $8.8M. But that might not account for the picks we just traded away. But with the rule of 51 we only count the hits of the top 51 players until the regular season starts so we can sign our picks using a lot less cap space than $8M. It’s only when we finalize the 53 and practice squad we need to be fully under the cap.

Becton would be great. Or O line would be excellent. He would be nice to get on a 1 year contract to take Cosmi's place
Allegretti, while having had a good year overall starting the first time for a full season, to me, has always felt like a guy that needed to be pushed and challenged. He was never a regular starter in KC and in some ways was handed a starting role last year. Ideally, he strikes me as a really solid first interior option off the bench. If you can upgrade at LG with a Becton or another option, I think you do it.
He must be expecting/asking for a top of market deal. He played well last season, but he’s not elite.

I don't know about the rest of yall, but I'm actually enjoying this off-season. AP doing a tremendous job of addressing issues and depth. I fully expect him to do some horse trading during the draft, gather more picks, and add some talented youth to the equation.
Some of these 1 year deals will not make the final roster, which is to be expected. But regardless, he's continuing to set us up in the here and now (dare I say championship window) while also giving us flexibility in the future.
This is the most confident I've been in our front office since our glory days. A unified vision of what a championship team can be now with a bona-fide plan for the future.
