truly elite players at premium postions that are in or still within their prime do not hit free agency. besides Hendrickson, who is this elite edge we missed out on in FA? corner? we traded for, what most people consider, an elite left tackle and people still complained about him not being a prime Trent Williams.

On Jonathan Jones, he is a clear upgrade to BSJ and Mike Davis even coming off this subpar season. The reason I wanted more of a true outside CB is I'm worried a bit about putting two 5-9/5-10 CBs on the outside when Lattimore inevitably gets injured and we are facing a Tet McMillan/Mike Evans/etc.

I think what recent history has shown is that you can find what end up being good starting corners Day 3. Heck, just this past year, Jarvis Brownlee and Tarheeb Still were taken rd. 5 and started a lot as rookies and both guys played well for rookies. However, with what we have in fold, I do kind of hope they take someone who isn't a project Day 2.

With the Jones signing we are really looking good at this point of free agency.
 
I’m not sure why anyone thought we’d go shopping in the luxury aisle for corners after we traded for Lattimore.

Joseph is just the type of corner I expected to sign.

My only real letdown at this point is that we are without an edge rusher. I had really convinced myself Myles Garrett was headed here.
 
Bargain guys I think may be worth pursuing on cheap 1 year deals. PFF has a good list here. Not counting guys like ZaDarius Smith who I expect to get something like a 1-$10M deal

Will Hernandez - Played for KK in AZ. After being a bust in NY, he became a good player in AZ and got better every year and a top half of the league starting guard. He tore his knee up in September unfortunately. He is a guy you can get for something like 1 yr $5M

Jed Wills - Could experiment with moving him inside and can at least provide swing tackle depth. Unfortunately, seems there are some character issues

DJ Humphries - Was KK's longtime starting LT in AZ. Tore his knee up at the end of 2023 and missed most of 2024. He signed with the Chiefs midseason and was atrocious. Bet would be he could provide some swing tackle depth another year after surgery

EJ Speed - Was a career special teams guy who became a starter in Indy the last couple seasons after Darius Leonard fell off. Could take the Mykal Walker role if the team isn't confident about Magee and Hampton filling that spot yet. Good run defender who isn't good in coverage and can't pass rush

I don't think anyone expected luxury aisle but I was hoping for a Mike Jackson Sr. (2/15) or a Kristian Fulton (2/20)
 
Has Jonathon Jones been signed to function as another Bobby Wagner? It feels like in some of these short term deals, Peters is prioritizing savvy and leadership over physical talent.

good list, I thought Hernandez would help. Also, If Humphries recovers from injury our offensive line would be extremely dominant

Yeah I'd be lying if I said he was on my radar but digesting everything being said about him, he's had a great career. Last season he was off some, but still not that bad. I love the 2 forced fumbles in the mix (10 in his career) and that he's a good tackler. 4.33 speed. Good against Tyreek hill who we ironically play against this season.

But the bigger picture for me digesting him at a minimum he's decent-competent. That alone is an upgrade over St. Juste, Forbes, Davis. He has potential to be better than decent. I get he's 31 so corners don't peak as they get older. But they can bounce back from a season which wasn't bad but wasn't their typical season.

I think going to a winner should help. NE was playing low stakes-depressing games. This dude has played in high stakes games including the SB. And reading about him, he's a big time leader, and great dude -- 10 out of 10.

Peters-Quinn haven't been shy about expressing how last year was partly about "brotherhood" and players who loved playing with each other, special locker room, etc. Reading about him, he will add to that. And heck its not like we can't use a corner who can run 4.33, can punch the ball out, and can tackle.

Not sure using examples from Snyder is really a fair comparison. A GM who knows what he’s doing absolutely can pick his spots to go after premium players in FA.
