Just some perspective for those who aren't familiar with me, I don't watch college ball or even pro ball anymore just don't have the time. I'm not copying and pasting the lists I make because that would be pretty lame I just take sample of dudes who will likely be drafted and watch YouTube clips and some profiles, that's it. I'm not being braggadocious but I'm pretty good at this stuff. Not that anyone cares - just a disclaimer This is a fun mental excercise for me. I like to see how I do against the folks that do this FT. I would smoke them all if I did this FT just for the record
I just take sample of dudes who will likely be drafted and watch YouTube clips and some profiles, that's it. I'm not being braggadocious but I'm pretty good at this stuff. I am a big fan of Thomas as well, good fit for DQ and Witt. There's a good group of CBsI'll have an answer for you in a couple weeks

Depends a little bit what kind of speedy receiver you want. If you want a big guy in the late rounds you've got Dont'e Thornton at 6'4" running a 4.3.
You have guys like Jalen Royals at 6'0" running a 4.42. And then you have guys like Jaylin Lane at 5'10" running a 4.34.

The WR & DB group look very strong. It's probably folly to attempt to rank these dudes but I'll give it a go.

I thought this class was suppose to be a bust, but it's looking like a pretty good draft class.

The one-on-one drills are a strong indicator I use in my rankings not looking at the Safety class yet but Marques Sigle Kansas State is likely a name to watch. Dude can cover.

I need to watch film of Azareyeh Thomas. His first 2 days at the Senior Bowl were awful. But then the 3rd day when it was in the red zone he was lock down in a condensed field.
Maybe he's scheme dependent?

Thought this was interesting. I'm looking at Will Johnson Michigan CB & Benjamin Morrison Notre Dame CB. My thought is that Morrison is the better of the 2 and I think the gap is fairly significant. I did an AI search and the results agreed with my own.

VOR, not saying your wrong, truly just a question, but if pulling coverage is all we need, do we have to have a really fast dude running deep or would any WR worth a damn still draw the same coverage?

Yeah, I mean I knew dline and rb were deep (and qb lacking top talent), but it’s looking like oline, corner and wr aren’t as bad as I was lead to believe. Some good TEs too.
You’re right too that having needs all over makes a difference. Obviously things could change, but your two points combined are why I’m pretty bummed we only have 3 picks in the first 6 rounds.
I had (what I thought was) an interesting thought exercise come to me - what sort of draft outcome would be disappointing?
For me, it’s probably 1) not taking advantage of the strength of the class - specifically dline and rb, and 2) not adding to the OL pipeline. I’d be bummed to not land a corner, TE and/or receiver, but I think that’s a tier below 1) and 2), and we’re limited on our picks, so it’d be pretty understandable.
With that said, it seems to me that one of the strengths of FA might be dline, and the draft depth might depress the market value for that group. So, even though I like the philosophy of taking advantage positional depth in drafts, tackling dline in FA and letting the draft’s dline depth (potentially) push other positions down to us is a route I could get behind.
It’s going to be a fascinating next couple of months…

Yes, Starlord, a patellar tendon tear is a tough one, worse than an ACL. And it’s hard to imagine that the Ohio State tackle will be full-go before camp—initial estimates had the timeline putting him back on the field in August, though he’s said to be a bit ahead of schedule.
I think that makes digging into Simmons’s work ethic and football character critical, because it’ll take some drive and determination to get back to where he was before he got hurt. That said, before he was hurt, over the first month-plus of the Buckeyes’ season, he put out the sort of tape that no tackle in this year’s draft has—so the reward could be big. And those who’ve been around him in Columbus see him as a genuine, good-hearted kid.

Insanely good class at edge and DT and RB -- and to some extent TE. So tailor made for this team.
FA should be interesting. They can lock down some DEs and DTs or maybe both. But if wouldn't shock me if we go DT in the first or 2nd.
There is such a vast menu at DT that hits me as attractive as DE.
in the 29 range, my fav might be Derrick Harmon but still watching others to get a full picture of the spot

I haven't even thought about DT to be honest, but I guess it's a need. If Allen walks, which seems likely it looks thin. Newton is going to be good I think. Mathis is a bust. Payne hasn't been the same since getting paid.
TE is interesting for sure, with multiple high end talent. I hope we resign Bates, but a high pick at TE to pair with Sinnott is possible. We do run a ton of 12 personnel.

I think DT is an absolute need: Same with OT, OG, DE, CB, S, LB, WR, TE, RB.
My dad asked my what we need this offseason, my response was "Yes...other than QB"
I keep thinking this is a possibility but two young unproven NFL TE's paired with the ancient Ertz is a little scary. I do like a suggestion SIP threw out of Jets FA TE Conklin also.
I think its clear that Payne is one of those I'll play hard when my contract is up but otherwise will rest on my laurels. I think it was Jay, or one of his ex-coaches who said on air that Payne is a good dude but not the hardest worker. In his contract year -- Logan Paulsen said he never saw Payne so determined in camp like that year. And Payne to his credit wasn't shy about hiding that he's playing for a big money contract that year -- right down to doing money signs when he had sacks that year. To me he's sort of the rich man's Dana Stubblefield. Stubblefield was a bad dude and phoned it in completely after getting the bad contract. Payne isn't a bad dude and hasn't phoned it in, but he's been a decent DT, not a great one. He was a great one during his contract year. That's it.
I am saying all of this because I wonder how Payne digests this coming season? it is basically another contract year for him so is his motivation back? The dude is talented as heck so a motivated hard working Payne can be something special. But if he plays like he has the last two season, its just an awful contract.
Banking on Payne and Allen to be the anchors of this defense and paying them like they are major difference maker DTs like a Lawrence or Simmons or C. Jones, etc has been a disaster IMO.
Standig said the other day he doesn't expect Allen back. And so far it doesn't look like there are any takers that are willing to swallow his contract in a trade.
But yeah this draft might be an opportunity to fix the Payne-Allen mistakes. I don't think they were bad draft picks. Good draft picks. But paying good players like they are elite players has been an awful investment. Payne and Allen are players that are more in that BJ Hill, J. Reed type buckett IMO. 2nd tier DTs not top tiers -- especially Payne with the exception of his contract year.
