• Jamaree Caldwell (Oregon)• Joshua Farmer (Florida State)• CJ West (Indiana)• Jordan Phillips (Maryland)• Omarr Norman-Lott (Tennessee)• Aeneas Peebles (Virginia Tech) • Ty Robinson (Nebraska)• Cam Jackson (Florida)• Junior Tafuna (Utah)

Nice variety of pass rushers and run stoppers there

I am liking NC State OT Anthony Belton quite a bit. IMO, Belton and Coleman could be a great pair on the left side. This more of a mental exercise for me than anything - there are a crap ton of excellent looking prospects. This looks like one of the better classes we've had in a while. Considering what AP did last year, he should knock it out of the park this time around.

So, in your opinion, were the early write-ups that said this was a bad year for offensive tackles off base?

I've only dipped my toes in the water burgold. The top five seem fairly consistent and I think I am in agreement thus far but after that it's over all the place with this group. My initial feeling thus far is the IOL group appears stronger but I cannot really comment with any certainty yet. As as whole though, especially compared with the DL, LB, DB, WR & RB group, I think it's safe to say OT appears the weakest to me thus far so I can get aboard the consensus for that. My wording in my prior post was not well put. I was referring to the entire class and not just OT class, but it could be deeper IMO than most think.

Gotcha. I think it's also fair to note that even in a "bad class" there's bound to be a few remarkable players. Some who outright surprise and some who were underrated because of coaching or teammates limiting their ability to shine.

I will say my leeriness of us choosing a LT in the first round stems from hearing it isn't a strong class. Sometimes, you get a better prospect with the fifth ranked edge than the top OT. Not sure if this is the case here, but I remember us drafting Dwayne Haskins in the middle of round one because he was the "best QB on their board" in a bad QB year. Best isn't always good. Sometimes, it isn't even mediocre. Turned out, zero QBs made it from that year.

IMHO, it would be AMAZING to pair Colston Loveland with Jayden and Terry. If you have a franchise caliber player at QB, TE and WR, it gets so much easier to fill out the rest of the offense.
Yes it would! I’m really hoping we can address the DL in free agency to the point where we are not desperate to go there with our first round pick, and can consider a guy like Loveland or one of the stud RBs if they fall. Sounds like there will be quality D lineman available throughout the first three rounds.

He is another guy I don’t think we take. To your point, he is tooled up and an absolute unit in the run game. However, you gotta question his work ethic as his technique is meh despite being a 6th year senior. He was also ejected from a game this year for spitting on his opponent

I know both you and I like Travis too and I think he’s be the one they’d target out of the two as a developmental tackle despite not being quite as physically gifted

6th year senior? Thanks for the insight MM, it's truly appreciated and helps fill in some gaps. I don't dive that deep only clips and cursory review of their profiles. I think the Minessota OT Airontae Ersery is being underrated quite a bit. What's your opinion? I'm curious about the Willam & Mary OT Charles Grant he was invited to the SB but could not attend. That's a big piece of eval for me because of the level of competition but he appears highly rated.

I don’t like Ersery. A guy who weighs close to 340 should be a physical powerful player and he is not that. I don’t see him fitting our gap heavy scheme

I like Grant as someone in the interior in a zone heavy scheme given he is 300 pounds and had to put on 60 pounds to get there. He has a wrestling background that lends itself to the technical aspects of the game.

Really? I actually may have him as my OT #6 :) - all good it's interesting to get takes from you guys here.

I liked Michigan RB Donovan Edwards last year. He could be a nice heir apparent to Ekeler's role. Although, I think he lost the starting gig he will likely test well at the Combine - not sure his projection but could be a value get. I really wished we'd taken Kenny McIntosh last draft.

So here's my question: I keep hearing that this year's RB class is "deep" and we can get a really good player in the 3rd or 4th round.

Ok, rewind to 2022. We spent a 3rd round pick on a RB, who has been good, if not spectacular, in Brian Robinson. He fell off the last half of the season for some reason or another, but up until then, he was the definition of "fine" to "good." He could start, he got yards which were there, broke a few tackles, but didn't have the speed to really scare a defense if he got into the second level. Mostly, his best runs were in the 10-20 yard range, but he was pretty consistent.

So, my question is, in this deep draft, if we picked a player around the same place we picked Robinson, could we get an appreciably better player?

Now, if you believe Robinson is washed and can't play, and is going to get cut, then that changes the calculus a little bit. Then you at the very least need a replacement level player.

But if you are trying to actually upgrade, are there players who can take us from "fine" or "good" to "really good" or "great" in the 3rd or 4th round? (Understanding they don't currently have a 4th.) They are picking #79 currently. Robinson was picked at #98.

This is likely one of the more fascinating aspects of this draft for me. BR was not the current regime's pic obviously but he is adored by the fan base and his toughness and heart are without question. I've not delved into the RB class yet there are some names I remember from last year who could be had later Damien Martinez & maybe Bhayshul Tuten VaTech. I don't think they go RB high although they are meeting with the top guys I think; I personally would like to see TreVeyon Henderson but don't see it happening.

Everybody loves BRob. I think the question is, what in the name of all that is holy happened to him? He fell of a cliff, (not the Kliff cliff, but an actual productivity cliff), ran into the backs of blockers, picked the wrong hole, was tentative, stopped breaking tackles, and was just generally a mess.

So, I think question #1 is, what happened? Injury? Pressing? Got figured out? And most importantly, can it be fixed.

Because that answer leads to what you do in the draft. If he's just lost it, then you have essentially 1 RB on the roster at the moment (Ekler) who just had 2 concussions. So you have to look at getting a guy, and if you're getting a guy, you want a better guy than Robinson.

If he hasn't lost it, then maybe you're looking for a complementary piece.

I personally think once a RB loses it, they rarely, if ever, get it back. He looks like he lost it. They need to replace him entirely. That might be unpopular. But it might be reality.

So, again, in this deep class, could we get an upgrade in the 3rd round? I don't watch college football and don't break down film, so honestly asking.

Someone else this here, but I believe Logan Paulsen said we met with every player we drafted last year. After the combine, we should be compiling a list of high RAS score guys that we meet with. We can probably compile a pretty good commanders draft board before the draft.

Definitely in theory. You have a much better GM making the pick. Worst case you get another (pre ‘losing it’) BRob, but younger and cheaper with upside to be more.
