Harder yes, but look around the league and you'll find many of the elite players were not drafted in the first round. You should be able to find great players in the second and third rounds if you have the coaches to develop them and the player who has the hunger. Heck, great players have come from every round and even gone undrafted. I know this is forever ago, but remember in the Glory Years that Bobby Beathard never met a first rounder he didn't want to trade away. :)

Yep. I was listening to Daniel Jeremiah go through his round 1 mock yesterday. He is plugged in and his mock is based off what he is hearing. He had a couple surprises sneak into the top 25. Had the Vikings taking Henderson in the first round. I think it is fair to count on a couple surprises that end up pushing one of those "last of a tier" EDGE/Tackle guys to us. I'm currently counting 5 guys at EDGE who would fit (Carter, Stewart, Green, Williams and Scourton) and 5 tackles (Campbell, Banks, Simmons, Membou and Conerly). That means 19 guys not playing these positions need to go for one of these guys to fall to us. What would help is 4 DTs (Graham, Grant, Nolen and Alexander) and 2 backs (Jeanty and Hampton) getting drafted in the first 29.

Another wrench into this discussion is what do we do if Egbuka, Burden or Loveland make it to #29?

I got to watch more of Burden, on initial watches, am not as infatuated as some draft geeks are with him albiet its cool that he has been jockeying more or less for this team to draft him with all the Jayden praise. Egbuka is so solid. Good seperator. Good blocker. Mostly a slot guy.

I really like Egbuka a lot but I love Loveland. So this one is an easy one for me Loveland would be hard for me to pass on. I doubt he's there at 29 albiet I see him there in some but not most mocks. Combine will be big for him. He has such long legs that i wonder about his short burst speed doing the 40 and how he'd do with the 3 cone if he has a pedestrian showing on that front does that help him drop?

But as a player, am absolutely infatuated by him. If we do our my guys list like we did in previous years, he'd be on it for me. So fluid for a big guy, great body control, great hands, good seperator. He's not the contested catch and YAC guy that Warren is but does so many things well.

Laporta was on my guys list years back and part of what i loved about him is his seperation skills. Loveland has that trait.

Loveland would absolutely be an amazing pick for us. It would be so hard to defend this offense with Jayden, Terry, and someone dynamic, like Loveland. I think that could be a much bigger add than someone like Tee Higgins for instance.

Not that it really matters, but if we get Ebuka for the slot does McCaffrey have the ability to be groomed for the outside. I want him to work out. I loved the preseason hype stories of him finding out when Jayden arrived in camp and so got there at the same time so they could watch film together and the kid seems like a good kid.
 
Already liked Loveland, and now seeing SIP‘s strong endorsement has me loving him. Having a weapon like that at TE would take away the necessity of having to spend up on a WR2. I know we haven’t completely given up on Sinnott becoming that, but he’s trending more likely to a second tight end role. Sign Ertz for 1 more yr and draft Copeland would be great. I hope he falls.

Logan Paulsen also really likes Loveland. Paulsen is a really great listen also. My favorite, probably.
 
I do have to say that I'd be thoroughly surprised if they take a TE in the first round. They have so many needs that are more important than an Ertz replacement/upgrade.

Agree it may not be the #1 need but getting a weapon for Jayden has to be on the list, and if we are drafting BPA….

Yeah, I think I'd prefer TreVeyon over Jeanty personally. I like the RB class as a whole overall not many Tier 1 types though for me, as of now.


 
CB is apparently deep from what I read, thus far Shavon Revel Jr. East Carolina looks like he's going to be stud.

I don’t really follow college ball. And I can’t be bothered doing deep dives into hundreds of prospects almost all of which my team will never draft.

But every year I develop crushes on 1-2 guys.

And I love the way Henderson runs in that video. He has exceptional vision… very good at taking angles and using his blockers… 1 cut and plant style… no wasted steps. Bursts through the line. Knows how to get skinny in tight quarters. Has great speed… just not super elite. Plays with aggression and breaks tackles…. but doesn’t look for contact. Seems to be a willing and very good pass blocker.

Sign me up.

You love your tight ends and are the TE guru :). I can totally get on board with Loveland at #29. I think we'll need to wait on the combine to learn more but, as of now, who are some tight ends you like that may go rounds 2-5 that you would like for us from a schematic fit standpoint?

This is true for Sampson as well but one of the things I like about Hendo is he has great character and I would be surprised if he doesn't get the Commanders tag. He is an honor roll guy, team captain, has had to overcome adversity and is unselfish (being willing to take a bit of a backseat to Judkins really speaks to his character).

You say that but the Chiefs are a very logical trade partner if Conerly is on the board and they want him at #29. They own their 2nd, the Tennessee 3rd (which is the 2nd pick in the round) and their own 3rd. It would be a bitter pill to pass on Conerly as I think he has a really good chance at least a league average starter as a LT but if AP and crew really like Belton or Travis later in the draft, I can live with that

I like Revel too but I'm a bit worried he may not have the football IQ. He wasn't more highly recruited coming out of HS due to academic issues and had to go to JUCO and is still a raw player. Mikey showed us this year what a guy with high level football IQ but non ideal traits can do
