The 2025 Draft Thread

Not really, but controlled anger is what we are looking for. To me, with so many talented players to choose from, why even take a chance with a guy like this? The character trait has been a big part of what AP/DQ are trying to build.
Controlled anger is a good thing--but I was a different person by the end of college than I was at the end of HS. Did he show anger issues at UT?

Sounds like a great chance to trade down fill in more holes. Weird as it is to say, I think we need depth maybe even more than we need starters.

Hopefully, some GM falls in love with someone and offers us a great deal when our pick arrives. It actually seems to happen a lot at the end of the first round. Alternatively, I hope someone Peters loves drops to him.

If we want to have a roster that can reliably compete with the Lions and Eagles, we need a lot more than depth. We need blue chip players.

I don't disagree, but I think there is an argument against making a team top heavy. Every team suffers injuries. When they happen you need that next man up to be close to starter quality or have the potential to take the job away from the starter.

One of the problems we found last year was that when Biadazz or Noah Brown went down then the team really stumbled. When Trent Scott had to fill in at tackle, Daniels was running for his life on every snap. We were crushing the league while healthy, but in football you can't expect to stay healthy. So, I repeat, one of our top priorities is to improve our depth.

(That's not to say we don't need more blue chippers. We do. But I want a damn fine foundation, too. Otherwise, the blue chippers won't get a chance to shine. Look at Cinci. They have some great players and every year they struggle to get into the playoffs because their overall roster overcomes the brilliance of their four or five blue chippers.)

On the flip side, it is also possible that all of these are the exceptions to the rule. That we remember them because these are the cases where the player didn't implode and all the ones where they did we forget about because the player wound up being unmemorable. I mean, besides diehard Redskins fans who's going to remember Derius Guise?

... and as I was reminded, Guise wasn't even that good an example.

Off topic but I think Guice would've been a fantastic back had it not been for the injuries (and the character issues from his college days that made him impossible for any team to roster).

Jurgens, Mailata, Milton Williams, etc were all depth at one point before they got their opportunities. I don't know about DE but it really wouldn't surprise me if some of these round 3-5 DTs and Gs become stars.

No doubt. I was more talking about in addition to his driving incident in college. I wouldn’t rule him out just because of an Internet rumor of him being angry in high school.

Honestly, I think it is going to be a hard call. I think we’ll run into a situation where the final tackle left in a certain tier (Conerly) or final EDGE left in a tier (Scourton or Pierce) is still there, it would be really hard to pass those guys up.

Similarly, in the second round, if the FO wants a speed back but Henderson or Sampson are already gone and one is left at our pick, do you just take that guy rather than trading down?

Honestly, I think those two scenarios both play out and there's a better than 50% chance both go the way you lay out here.

Those "last of a tier" Edge/Tackle and Speed RB feel like our first two picks. If we gain picks in this draft, maybe we trade 2026 selections (or a player?) to do so.

To add more to the Pearce character issue discussion, Logan just released his top 10 EDGE player rankings in the podcast he does for the team. Pearce and Ummanielen are the only two out of the bunch where he questions down to down effort

Yep. I was listening to Daniel Jeremiah go through his round 1 mock yesterday. He is plugged in and his mock is based off what he is hearing. He had a couple surprises sneak into the top 25. Had the Vikings taking Henderson in the first round. I think it is fair to count on a couple surprises that end up pushing one of those "last of a tier" EDGE/Tackle guys to us. I'm currently counting 5 guys at EDGE who would fit (Carter, Stewart, Green, Williams and Scourton) and 5 tackles (Campbell, Banks, Simmons, Membou and Conerly). That means 19 guys not playing these positions need to go for one of these guys to fall to us. What would help is 4 DTs (Graham, Grant, Nolen and Alexander) and 2 backs (Jeanty and Hampton) getting drafted in the first 29.

Another wrench into this discussion is what do we do if Egbuka, Burden or Loveland make it to #29?

According to Drafttek.com, if we move down from 29 to mid-low 30s, we can expect to receive late 3rd, early 4th rd pick, depending on the team desperate to move up. With the draft deep at our positions of need at DL, OT, G, RB, etc., we can haul in some additional good player(s) with trust in GMAP.

I think it makes a lot of sense to do this. When I do my mocks I usually trade down.

We can trade our 3rd and get a lower 3rd rounder, 4th rounder and 5th round pick too.

I am in the group of people who believe this team has serious holes in all over the place on both sides (O/D) that were covered by excellent play by few players who carried the team, lead by JD5. We need above average players before we exclusively target Blue Chippers which will honestly be hard where we draft going forward. Luckily, we have an elite GM who can manage the team via both free agency and draft to get to where we are competitive year in year out. I am excited to see what we do this off-season. This draft is loaded with good talent at certain positions in the 2-4 RD range per experts.

Elite GM or not, all GMs are going to miss on a lot of their picks. That's why I agree with stockpiling picks if it's possible.

Hopefully some dumb GM gives us a high 2nd and a high 3rd for the 29th pick. That would be just about perfect.

It is unbelievably pleasant (and different) to think about dumb moves as the playground for other FOs. Ours can definitely make mistakes, like any - but we will hopefully continue to establish a solid track record as one of the better organizations.

I am hoping at some point the league gets wise to making transactions with Howie; just say no. Haha.

That, and no trades with Andy Reid.

If they somehow win a trade with either of those guys then we know our GM is elite.
