Josh Harris Speaks... Commanders is permanent name.

There's your problem--listening to Philadelphia fans
Fair.

Though, in regards to having an awareness of opinions on the way the man runs a sports franchise as an owner...it does seem like there could be some relevance there.

Instead of inundating Harris about the name issue, I think the better question at this point is when the uniforms/the 'new' look closer to our legacy will roll out.

With the way they are being open about it, is it safe to say next season?

I can't look at the current laundry for another year. Just can't.

I can if we are winning. Honestly, I had more fun this season than in the last ten seasons combined. There were only a few times I even noticed the uniforms (usually when we were wearing all black or all white)

I'll still watch the games as I have, but I think part of what made the current rebrand so difficult was just how disastrously the uniforms were altered, in addition to the name. It's hard enough going with a clunky name after one that had so much history attached to it, but severely altering the visual aspect of a legacy product that a long withstanding fanbase has been attached to is in some ways just as damaging.

Imagine the most popular brands doing it.

It's why "Washington Football Team" was still tolerable for most. Commanders and the mannequin roll out of these hideous uniforms were the final blow for most.

Edit: And I say that as someone who will be okay with the name after initially opposing it, as long as we return to a look similar to our classic uniforms.

I'm just different. As a writer, I know that most people do judge the book by the cover. To me, what matters most is what's inside the book. In the case of the Redskins or now the Commanders, I've already bought the book so I wouldn't care if their cover was as awful as the classic Tampa Bay Buc uniforms. I care about the game, the players, and the results.

Related aside to this discussion: The hatred of the current name and branding...I am so surprised RR messed this up so badly. He knows how to SELL. Just look at this performance:

As I said, I will still watch the games and support the team, and I was against the name change. I'll ride with Commanders now.

I just prefer not to get annoyed every time I see the white uniforms with the gradient on them. It's the only time I think of the branding and shake my head - it's just too far removed from what we were.

We were one of the cornerstones of the league, and the franchises in that category hurt the NFL when they make changes as drastic as we did. Imagine the Steelers and 49ers rolling out in some kind of weird XFL knockoff uniforms.

Were we? I loved our look, but I'm not sure I ever remember hearing us being discussed league-wide in terms of best uniforms.

Having an awareness and opinions of Philadelphia fans leads to mental illness and dementia.

I mean I do like a good cheesesteak--but we have 26 Michelin rated restaurants here--the highest density in the nation. Philly has 0.

This.

No matter how well we were doing this season- and I have accepted the name - those white jersey atrocities take just a little joy out of what is happening on the field for me. I would almost rather just listen to the radio feed when we are in those abominations.

The white atrocities are not updates of the franchise in Washington - they are a jersey for an expansion XFL Team. I see Dan and Tanya Snyder in front of those mannequins every game we play in the whites. I hate those jerseys with a seething, boiling, powder keg rage that is probably borderline in need of a professional intervention.

All part of my "don't stick my head in the sand" approach to gathering information.

But who knows, maybe I'll be wandering Kensington before you know it 😆

I couldn't care less whether it was Commanders or anything else other than Redskins. No other name really moves me. Well...

This is exactly why it’s incredibly risky to do the whole name change song and dance once again.

There is no unanimous name other than Redskins.

I don’t think we ever see a change in ownership without the name change. I also don’t think the name changes with any owner but Dan.

Dan was a human wreck, using the team as his sole source of income and siphoning money behind his minority owners backs. Thats really what set the name change in motion.

Political correctness was white hot in 2020, however Redskins was way down the list of things the general public cared about at that time. Fred Smith used it as a tool to screw Danny for screwing them.

See, I think arguing about "better" and "worse" and "Redskins" all misses the point and muddies the story that would need to be sold.

This is about fully moving on from a stain on the franchise. Yes, the Commanders is just a name. Yes, many fans CAN get used to names. All of that is true. However, this IS a name that is truly associated with a scumball, and the manner it which is was foisted on loyal fans by said scumball was just beyond the pale. Keeping that name over ANYTHING else, even a "worse" name--- could be argued as a mistake. The justification, the imperative to change the name should probably focus on that aspect and nothing else. In fact, yes, we should admit names are always going to have detractors. That's true. The stain of Snyder being ever-present is just a sad state, when it doesn't "have" to be the case.

By the way, I have never read anything like this, but I bet there is a time limit on the "new owners can change a team name" rule. Maybe it is 1-year. Regardless, I don't think there is an appetite to change the name after the success the team had, the resultant sales, etc etc. However, I am a fan of voiced opinions, especially in the modern era where you have more of a chance to say something.

Also, one last note, in 2007 I filled out the Redskins "Contact Us" and mentioned the league was looking into piped crowd noise. I mentioned I had watched a game from upper level seats and heard what distinctly sounded like crowd noise at certain times coming from the speakers so I mentioned the articles I had read. You never know who getes these emails, or how they filter around. Karl Swanson (Redskins official spokesperson) replied:

There is no noise being piped in. We are having problems with an antiquated system, and the League is aware of that. You are hearing feedback as well as noise being picked up at various times from co-located frequencies as well as microphones in a number of areas (officials, band, PA announcer). We hope to announce an overhaul of the analog system, converting everything to digital, as soon as possible.
