well. So I heard it on one of the talk shows. And now that I go looking - I think they’re using an outdated number (used as recently as articles in January of this year) of 67k. Which is incorrect. It’s somewhere in the 62-63k range.

So, I’m not gonna look any further because I every article on the subject of attendance is using that old number.

It took me some time to figure out which was real, but they reduced the number from 67K to 62-63K in 2022, per the Washington Times
 
Hard to determine what actual capacity is at the stadium. It supposedly got up to close to 92k when Gibbs came back and they installed the dream seats as well as the obstructed view seats on the 200 level, visitors side.

I know that since then they obviously removed a bunch of upper level seats as well as probably have taken a certain percentage of the OV seats from being available. As well as some reduction in the club level. But its really difficult for me to see how theyve reduced capacity by anywhere close to 30k.

A frustrating aspect of this whole thing for me, and I generally share your opinion. Nobody gave a shit until it was gone. Then it's all like..."why did they do this." "we didn't want this" blah blah blah. I mean the name being controversial was only being talked about for DECADES before it was gone. From what I have read, many Native people do not consider this group an actual Native American group.

The establishment will never allow us to go back to Redskins. NEVER...and you can use caps.

They are literally wasting their time.
 
That mostly jibes with what I have heard and read. It was mostly a manufactured controversy to divert attention from bigger, more serious issues.

The article is not just complaining about moving away from Redskins. It's complaining that the team chose "Commanders." For example, General Custer was a cavalry commander during the civil war and the American Indian Wars. On November 27, 1868, he led the 7th Cavalry Regiment in an attack on the Cheyenne encampment of Chief Black Kettle – the Battle of Washita River. He reported killing 103 warriors; He killed 19 women and children. 53 women and children were taken as prisoners. Custer had his men shoot most of the 875 Indian ponies they had captured.

I think this is part of the problem the native Americans have with the team's new name. As many of us do.

It's not Harris' fault that Snyder chose Commanders. It's Harris' fault that he chose to keep Commanders.

If the fans at large don't put a stop to this stuff.... we are just going to keep spinning in circles forever and ever. The problem with their argument is that it's taking one use of the name "Commander" and applying it in the larger sense. The same thing the opposition did with Redskins and scalps.

They are taking an EXTREME position to make their point, which only creates more divisiveness. Society cannot continue to function this way.

Like someone above mentioned, they've been there even before the change, and relatively speaking, they were ignored.

Another thing to keep in mind is I don't think everyone including some Native Americans thought that a name change would necessarily include a logo change.
 
Nike said they won't sell Redskins gear, so that was the end of it. Nike doesn't care about small groups of protesters. Money talks, and Nike has all the money.

One aspect that really sickened me was all the media people who jumped on the bandwagon.

Courtland Milloy (Washington Post) wrote how he had been JKC's guest many times at games and whooped it up. But now he saw that it was a racist slur. Michael Wilbon said much the same. And nobody bothered to ask them if it was so egregious, why did they celebrate it for half a century?

Phil Simms said he would cease saying it. Then he was in the broadcast booth for one of ours and I counted him saying it 4 times.

That was after Fred Smith threatened to take FedEx off the stadium in an effort to get Snyder to sell the team. That was the first real domino
 
I was at my kids wrestling practice tonight here in the fabulous and oh so cosmopolitan Little Rock, Arkansas. I look up at the two kids wrestling close to my kid and one of them has on a Washington Commanders tee. I didn’t get a chance to ask the boy how he came to be a Commanders fan, but I definitely will if I see him next week.
