Random Commanders Thoughts

It's time I sit back and appreciate what an unexpected great year we had. We probably won't be back to the NFC Championship Game next year, that's really hard to do. But it will be great to go into the season for the first time in 30 years believing our team is a contender to win the Super Bowl.

I totally agree that #5 made up for so many shortcommings of this roster. I gotta say I'm a bit concerned that he, Coleman and at times Sainristill were the only rookies to make any impact what so ever. Really thought I'd see more out of Newton, Sinnott was so invisibile I literraly spaced on his name and had to look it up. They like Magee but he was derailed by injury, when he did play we didn''t see anything that stood out and we don't know anything about him.

I'd feel a lot better if we had more young players in the pipeline that they know are ready to step into bigger rolls next season. I can't see how we can say that right now.

I do think Coleman deserves more credit than he gets. For a rookie left tackle, he did a pretty good job holding his own.

It all comes back to strength and conditioning, I read that somewhere

I guess the silver lining is we get to see JD5 in the Probowl. I have a feeling he will excel in the skills contest.

I don't want to cause a rukus, I'm new here. But let's be honest, this game wasn't close and to me it's a bad look to complain about the calls when we could not stop the Eagles all afternoon and a few calls were not going to change that. That's all I'll say on the topic.

It’s also a bad look to crush a cornerback who got here late season, has been hurt, and asked to cover some of the NFLs best WRs on his own with almost no pass rush to help out but that seems fine with many of us :)

I just hope its not another 33 years until we come this close to the Lombardi.

It seems like teams such as KC and Philly can sandbag a bit during the regular season and even some in the playoffs (Philly vs LA Rams, Eagles sleepwalked and still won) and still win. It seemed like on Sunday Philly decided to make a statement on us. The question is, what will be the response.

Do you think the field goal vs going for it on 4th and 2 on the first drive gave the Eagles extra fire and confidence after Quinn backed down from going for it?

I don’t think the Eagles ever at any point were given or needed any extra fire.

You could argue the 4 points we potentially missed out on were costly in game script though.

No I do not. I used to be a "take the points" guy because I felt a stop on 4th down gave the other team momentum. But teams go for it so often now that it's just not the emotional swing it used to be. I was disappointed he didn't keep going for 4th downs on that play. Like Detroit the only way to beat a team who is clearly more talented is to be aggressive. They were for the most part, the fake punt could have ended the game very early if it failed. So not sure why he got conservative here.

I mean Quinn was attacking, putting on pressure, converting 4th downs, then we stop doing what we've been doing successfully most of the time. I guess he was comfortable we were in Gonzalez range but still I was surprised at the time.

I think we were all a little surprised. I don't know if I considered it a bad decision, but I think everyone expected them to go.

As far as hiring away either coordinator, it appears Kingsbury to New Orleans is the only possible realistic remaining slot left? Believe Kingsbury is still scheduled to be interviewed there.
Though it looks like Mcarthy is favorite.

Note to Kingsbury. You were not able to get guys open as well in this game. The Eagles did, a lot, especially when they had to (or got our guys into DPI because they were not able to catch up). Please realize, this is partly because of a successful dedication to the run game. These things do not happen in a vacuum.

^ For those who think Kingsbury cares enough about the run - he himself admitted he probably does not.

I have a feeling that Kingsbury looks at BRob and thinks to himself that he only has a back good enough to keep the pass rush honest, but doesn't have a back to win games with. BRob is a 3 yards and a pound of dust kind of back and in the latter half of the season he wasn't even that.

I was glad though that BRob got some of his mojo back in the two playoff games. I still think we need to look at upgrading our featured back, but I still root for the kid.
