What Would You Like For The New Name Of This Team?

other than of course returning to the Redskins, the truly best name would be Federals. The Federal government and all its supporting contractors is the jobs engine of the area.

But between the USFL history, general distaste of government (fair or not) and the fact that our identity has never been based on Washington DC itself (in contrast to the hockey and baseball franchises) I don’t think it will be that.

So since Redskins and Federals are not going to happen, I’ll go safe and solid and choose Red Wolves.

If we plan to still base ourselves in Maryland, I wouldn't mind The Washington Underground, in honor of Harriet Tubman.

(Yeah, I know. I always come up with names that no one else would want, but if we do go for a new name I want it to be a new name. I want it to be ours.)

Less seriously, a fitting historical name for DC could be the DC Duelists.

I’m for anything but commanders. I know there could be worse names and commanders under any other circumstances probably wouldn’t be bad. But I will always tie this name to the previous owner and the team he appointed to come up with the name. Everything was done the wrong way which put a bad taste in my mouth. I want them to move away from the name to get a clean break from the past ownership and front office and marketing that just completely bungled this whole thing.

It is hard to take this seriously since the team has not shown any interest in changing the name again, so I'll suggest the Jaekelopterus. The stadium can chant "Let's go Jay Kel" while they stick their arms out and snap our claws at the opponents.

Sea scorpions and normal scorpions are two different types of animals. They just happen to share the same body plan. The only difference is that sea scorpions had paddles and that this fucker grew up to 2.5 meters (8 ft). It would have been one of the top predators in the Middle Devonian period some 390 million years ago.

Anyway, while Josh Harris has ruled out Redskins, he has not yet ruled out a possible name change from Commanders to something else. I think this offseason - probably this coming month - is our last chance...

It would keep the same spirit of the old name and could even use the old logo and uniforms (I think this is the main thing that the fans are missing, including myself). It's not an original name, but if we won't go back to the Redskins, it's probably the best we could hope for while still retaining the identity of the past.

Agreed. The Blackhawks are able to use their logo without problems. We could rebrand to Warriors and use the old logo, with alternate jersey/helmet themes focusing on our servicemen.

Besides, Red Wolves, Warriors, and the lot were Dan Snyder alsorans. Those were on his list of names we "voted" for before the ahem, cough, cough bullshit name Commanders won. Do we really want a retread Dan Snyder choice?

WFT—while I do like the rebellious implication against the forces that cost us the name to begin with, the problem is it also came from Snyder. This would be my last pick, only ahead of commanders.
