I wonder if they go after Godwin on a cheaper deal, rather than break the bank on Higgins

Godwin had a masssive injury at the end of the game vs the Ravens earlier in the year. He's a great receiver, especially in finding the soft spots in zone but that injury could be a hindrance atleast for another year.

I'd sign McLaurin first as his contract voids in 2026. Extend him and then go after a big time receiver like Tee Higgins and maybe DeMarcus Lawrence in free agency. Sorry wrong thread, but then go back and extend Mariota Wagner Cosmi Ertz among others.
 
lol.. why are people calling out rookies and players under multi year deals as ones to resign.. they are already signed people!
Interesting point is this is the first time in 20 years where players actually want to come play here.. maybe w a discount

Offense​

  • Marcus Mariota (QB) – solid backup and vet presence (2y deal)
  • Zach Ertz (TE) – i am mixed on this one.. great hands but doesnt offer much after the catch. he is not going to be as cheap and we need a younger TE to step.
  • Cornelius Lucas (LT) – great swing tackle
  • Olamide Zaccheaus (WR) – low value deal since the team knows how to use him
  • Dyami Brown (WR) – he'll be FA after this year.. doubt we sign him
  • John Bates (TE) – good blocking TE.. need one
  • Noah Brown - yes please.. solid #3 WR

Defense​

  • Bobby Wagner (ILB) – another one year deal.. but he is just an up the gut run stopper at this point
  • Jeremy Chinn (S) – looks good, i am sold
  • Dante Fowler Jr. (DE) – i like what i see.. shouldnt cost an arm and a leg
  • Noah Igbinoghene (CB) – good backup. keep him on a low value deal. you can never have enough experienced corners

Not a big OZ fan but he is probably back and he and Luke probably compete for the starting slot job

I’m guessing they’ll make a hard push at a starting WR in FA given the class’s depth

I like Noah too and like aspects of OZ's game. I think dyami does a little bit of what each does. so i'd prefer to keep Dyami and then sign Tim Patrick to fully replace Noah. This is not considering other major moves like signing Tee Higgins or something...which I'm 50/50 on.

thanks for the response. It helps me wrap around my ideas for who they will pursue in the Draft and FA
 
Forest sure looked a lot better when he was playing next to Cam Kurl. Now he's a goner. Dyami Brown is a big mystery....what will he do in the Lions game could go a long way in determining his future here.

That’s exactly what I came in here to say. You have to keep him. And Dante Fowler.

This coaching staff is so, so superior to the last one. They really seem to have figured out how to use Dyami.

Jon Allen made a case for himself last night too.
 
It would be so fun to be a fly on the wall and spy on Peters and the coaches as they discuss the current roster and it's construction.

Yes, this team overachieved.
Yes, so many players played better than their pedegree.
Yes, other free agents may be more tempted to come here, but it's apparently a weak free agent class.
Yes, keeping a guy who's a good fit and you know is a fight is better than getting someone more talented sometimes (See Ryan Clark vs. Adam Archuletta or Antonio Pierce vs. Jerimiah Trotter.)

So returning to the question of who we retain on this roster is really exciting.

Who does Peters want to keep! Who must he keep?

Dante Fowler contract being up, and him having another one-year of production in his contract year (I think it happened before with him) - his value may jump and his postseason production may not plainly say "keep him" depending on his price tag and what is available
 
Fowler is one of those guys who signed a prove-it contract and proved it. I always think it's good for the team to reward those guys. On the other hand, I've never seen so many prove-it guys step up (which is a great problem in terms of figuring out re-signs.)

I remember reading that Fowler has done this before in a contract year. He has performed with middling success in other years, but in contract years he has proven it. I don't remember the numbers and don't have the time right now to check.

The other problem is, with this team now, we really need "big moment producers." There are lots of different NFL players out there. It's tough to show up in the big moments; DQ has carefully cultivated that mentality, which is great. I am not sure Fowler checks both of those boxes properly - given a "real" contract (he will not want a 1-year), will he deliver? Did he show so much that the risk there is worth it? As always a lot of this depends on what is out there and some other complicated mechanics that the best analytics can factor in (how much would it cost to shed him if he doesn't live up to expectations, what replacements may be available next year, etc).

Always interesting problems.

I kind of forgot most of that, thanks for the reminder. However, I think they gave Luvu a 3-year and Fowler a 1-year. So... I guess we'll see.

Yes, we will. I think a 3 year is probably what it took to get Luvu, as I would imagine he had more suitors and is 2 years younger.
 
I’ve been operating under the assumption that we bring back both Fowler and Chinn, but… I’m not sure it’s necessarily a foregone conclusion (beyond the chance that negotiations are far apart). Both proved themselves obviously, but it’s possible we either pay a bit more for a (perceived) better player, or target 1-year deals on replacements. The latter having the added benefit of leaning into building through the draft, and allows you to then spend a bit more elsewhere, or on higher quality depth/competition.
 
I don't know about paying Fowler much. He's going to be 31, older than Allen. They'd be better off finding an upgrade, and hopefully one who can also play run D.

If he will take a 1-year, they may do it. I don't see them giving him a multi-year. I think he will walk and get a multi-year. I just don't see why they would give him a multi-year one year later and older, after giving him a 1-year.
If DQ knew him already - then that is all the more reason to believe they don't give him a multi-year NOW (they already knew him and gave him a 1-year THEN).
