Official Game Thread - Playoffs Week 2 - Commanders @ Lions

The thing with Ekeler is that he is much better in space. So getting him outside either a run or a screen, that is where he is at his best. The Chargers tried to make him the workhorse and it wore on him. Injuries started piling up and he wasn’t as effective. Robinson is built more to just slam it up the middle and take that pounding, although that looks to be taking a toll too. So using Ekeler effectively is the key and he is the most effective runner on the team. But they also can’t ask him to do what he is not good at and expect that same success.
 
They were flipping off anf MF’ering my 11 year old from passing cars…though I seriously doubt it was the first time he’d heard that. 🤣

I was at the same Seattle playoff game Chris was with my 10 year old. I was continually threatened, had 'F' bombs screamed in my face right in front of my son, security just stood there and watched. A few nice fans apologized all day for our experience, but it was completely unacceptable. I was glad we lost in the end because frankly, had we won that game, I don't think I make it out of that stadium safely. It was bad.

I won't ever go to a road game again.

In the Bucs game, they only gave it to him 8 times on rushing plays and his yds/carry was twice what BRob's was. There is no question he is the most talented RB on this roster - and he's the best at both running the ball and catching the pass. They have just limited his carries because they want him available and are afraid of putting too much of the ground game on his shoulders.

I'm not saying Robinson is more talented than Eckler but I feel this stat is misleading without context.

Robinson is getting the ball more often in "normal" running situations. On Sunday, 60% of Robinson's carries came on 1st down while only 42% of Eckler's carries came on 1st. To take it a step further, half of Robinson's carries came in the 1st half while the bulk of Eckler's carries came in the second half after the Bucs' defense had been on the field for a long time.

Granted, it's a really small sample size - 10 carries for Robinson and 7 for Eckler - so it's dangerous to draw too many conclusions. I also only looked at Down, not Down and Distance, and I'm sure that plays into it as well.

Interestingly, all but one carry for the 2 guys came on 1st or 2nd down, and that lone late down carry? That was a 4th and 1 call and it went to Eckler.
 
Since we are going up against Ben Johnson I thought this tidbit was interesting reference turning around the plane when heading to interview Ben Johnson for the head coach job - Sorry if posted elsewhere:

"I don't know if it's been talked about publicly, but this is the story I got. They were en route. They were en route to Detroit for the interview in conversation with Ben Johnson. It was brought up that Ben Johnson still wanted Sam Howell. That's who he wanted to be the quarterback for this offense. And, you know, there's [North] Carolina connections and all that stuff. And Adam Peters was like "No" because they knew who they were going to draft. And we all knew who they were going to draft. He didn't want him. If true, lost a little respect for Johnson that he wanted Howell and was not flexible. AP did the smart thing and traded him and got draft capital.

Look at the season averages. I don't think we can dismiss Ekeler leading all RBs in yds/carry. He is a more dangerous back. No one on opposing defenses is worried about BRob or any of the other guys breaking one. They mostly don't have to worry about whether those RBs are going to carry the ball or if they have to cover them as a receiving threat. But when Ekeler is on the field, they have to worry about both things.
 
People that feel the need to threaten or commit violence at sport events points to bottled up hostilities (losing off the field) notably but not limited to them be clearly sexually frustrated. Interesting case studies could be had: just look at people at games. Seemingly normal as they walk in but quickly resemble a screaming like a teen at a swift concert. Many completely wasted. And its all considered normal and widely accepted. High fiving strangers - doing all kinds of crap you'd never even think about outside of that 3 hours a few times a year. Stadium security has seen it all from their first day on the job - the insanity is normalized.

That all said I am going to take the over on BRob receiving yards this week. Ekeler in its a telegraphed pass - so maybe its easier for him to get his rush yards. Do the opposite of what the D expects.

Complete opposite for me when I have gone to Dallas for games. Last year went to the Thanksgiving game and the fans were saying terrible things to us like good morning and Happy Thanksgiving. I thought Baltimore would be bad but even their fans are good (they do like to talk shit though)

Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. I would offer if you get the chance go to Dallas. It is a sight to see.

Deranged Philly fan looked stone cold sober. I think losing is a big factor. Or, a lack of drugs and alcohol cause people to get angry. Or as I call it, dangerously sober. Think of all the bully's in high schools - sober. Some of the most gruesome things that happen in this country are committed by people completely sober. An interesting case study remains to be published on the violent sports fans. The game itself is a factor aka perceived "enemies". Maybe doing it to show off. An obvious lack of proper socialization. At least a drunk spends half his time looking for his next drink or standing in a huge bathroom line.

Back on topic - I am not afraid of Detroit in the least. It will take some tricks up our sleeves but knock on wood we are showing up with our big guns healthy playing with house money.

I have taken my family to Dallas for a game 3 times (all Skins wins), and we had a blast. We usually purchase nosebleeds and are awash in a sea of Cowboys fans and I have never had a problem. I distinctly remember some Cowboys fans offering their seats on the shuttle on the way back from the win in Dallas in 2016 to my obviously tired, toddler-toting-wife. Two Sundays ago we were there an had a great time. Had a good chat with an old-timer about how he feels fleeced by Dak. I think for Dallas fans in Texas, the Cowboys are "who they love, "not "who they are," unlike some other (cough Philly cough) fanbases.
